This is amazing. She is amazing! And, having grown up in Washington state, I just lit up with a big smile when she mentioned Orcas Island. What a place to get inspired and learn new things!
I love this channel, so inspiring to see other women into synths, also these interviews are refreshingly open and about sharing. Not ego. This is what I love to see!
Very nicely done, good example of realtime modular composition. Of course, one can only wonder where her musical travels would have gone without the lucky neighbor encounter . . . with original Buchla hardware. Describing her modular setup . . . "It's still really expensive". Yes it is, definitely out of the reach of most.
I'm really hoping that one day I'll be able to do about 2% of what she can do. My synth system is so very different though. At least now I have a Moog Grandmother and it sounds great!
There are so many people who get into modular synthesis as a kind of novelty but there are not so many who really stick with it and get interesting results.
@@kentsparling8222 I think your comment is a bit over the top.. what´s wrong with him expressing that he likes her from what he sees from this video? Sure it may not be her entire personality, but it wasn´t meant "to reduce her" either. Literally the whole music artist/fan relationship would be "incredibly disrespectful" then, and while I agree that an artist is to an degree always just an image of the fans´ imagination and projections, it´s far from disrespectful, and I think the artists would agree and not be so easily offended like you were. It was just an sponateous expression of admiration, while you made it a problem, and I even made it worse with this long text ;) peace
@@kentsparling8222 oh yeah? on how many levels? Cause I count zero. Whoever is telling you that a man can't express desire for a woman is brainwashing you. Let me guess, whenever a woman says to her friend "OMG, so and so is my dream man" are you going to swoop in on a vine and be like "whoa there, that is disrespectful on soooo many levels, ma'am."
I gotta say, some people just have a knack for modular synthesis, and she's definitely one of them. Very good stuff, in the same vein of Alessandro Cortini.
Someone needs to create a eurorack-compatible high-power vacuum cleaner with soft-bristle brush nozzle and long hose for getting between cable spaghetti, deep in keyboard keys and jack sockets; maybe a special nozzle that is a soft brush but when you push down on it a 3.5mm jack sucker protrudes. Venting of dust could also be modular, with choice of bag-compatible module or a hose output for more permanent installations, so you could route dust output -> window. Ideally you'd have a magnetic robotic crawler to keep things dust-free automatically, but I don't want to get too ambitious.
Just found my way here via a Sarah Davachi interview with Alex MylarMelodies. Moments before I was listening to two oscillators sounding with each other. P E A C E : )
As a hobby-guitarist, who has a half-stack in his living room, and also some keyboards, samplers and sound-modules in my home-studio, and just getting interested in modular synthesist, i can relate to the "bleepy bloop style" sounds she's talking about, as that's what it seems that i hear in almost every video, after watching countless of hours of YT content on that topic.. There are hardly ever any full songs. By now i think that modular synthesis is just here for those people that think a crack- or heroin-addiction has too much impact on their bodies, but rather want to spend all that money (or more) on things that basically go "beep" in different ways. Then again, next to my house being full of "conventional" music equipment, I shouldn't be talking, i spent over 20k on a telescope, ccd-cameras, filters and mount for doing astrophotography, but because i live in the Netherlands i can use it maybe once or twice a year.. .if even... also a bottomless pit, but at least it keeps me from being able to afford a drug-addiction, despite having a good salary ;)
Cool to see someone use modular this way. Many people get hung up on making "modular music", where the instrument is an and in and of itself, instead of a tool to be utilised towards a goal.
Interesting to see what eurorack modules she uses, lots of Studio Electronics and Make Noise Modules + The two SMR's. I wonder what her rack looks like now, about a year later.
Tell her not me. As you and I agree, she could make an orchestra from pieces of wood or just human bodies and have real instruments there anyway. Mine was a little stupid observation... there's always someone haha. I'm not saying I dislike this so don't start playing that card.
There is a reason to fast touch a pot and a reason to slowly emote on a knob... Usually quick touches are due to tempo sensitive inputs... (Such as dropping an eq or a quick gain alignment). There are also times when a Dj needs to be more gradual with a pot... Don't get tripped up by what others are doing ;)
Her neighbor lent her a complete modular set up for a year, all my my neighbor has to offer is 40 cats
+Morgan Huggins sounds like something else happened in that barn...
And not just any synth either, a complete buchla system is about 24k. Some people are just lucky I guess
+NAW DAWG what the fuck are you talking about idiot
LOL
I need to get some better neighbors
Imagine your neighbor just walking up and being like, hey, want a Buchla?
Pro tip: if a neighbour says "follow me to my barn" there usually isn't a Bucchla in there, and you should probably never go back to their house
Note that she was helping him first. Lesson right there.
The last time that happened to me I woke up in an alley and one of my kidneys was stolen.
PussyPower
I would be quite delighted if there was a 'director's cut' of this; say 90 minutes or 2 hours long or so.
This is the most coherently I've ever heard someone talk about modular synthesisers.
Sure sure, simp
Nice.
It's good to enjoy things and people who attempt to put that down are merely showing themselves to be simpletons.
:-)
@@youtubethrowaway9324 I love how any mere relation or interaction with a woman is now deemed SIMPING loll

Thank you for taking time to make this. It is a mysterious world!
San Juan’s in the house! So great to see a local woman doing well in the electronic music world!
She is amazing...explain her great setup...congrats Aurelia!
I have been recommending her work to everyone I know... Amazing musician...
So organic, so artistic, so beautiful!
Congenial musician and composer, lovely person, extraordinary music.
All in this video is beautiful. Thanks to share.

Totally fascinating. Both her story and her music.
4:46. 👏🏽! Warm, intelligent and finessed! Always a relief to hear synth being used so beautifully.
Love all that Make Noise kit, such nice graphics
its endless possibilities - its a therapy !!
Her music is wonderful.
Suzanne Ciani's legacy is intact with you. Amazing performance!
I had the same thought
listening/watching this with Bose over-the-ear headphones during lunch break...my work desk has never been so transported

Very interesting tool. Exploration of sound scape.... I would love to try it out once. For now, I have my Minibrute ;)
I just ordered a microbrute.
I am exploring modular with my tiny Make Noise 0-coast the affordable way to get west coast synthesis without going broke.
I love how she taught herself how to use everything. Destiny, man. Control voltage is a religion for sure.
There are so many people who get into modular synthesis as a kind of novelty but there are not so many who really stick with it and get interesting results.
Nice film! I like the evidentiary method of interview with a bit of a montage ans she is performing the tune.
Awesome! Thank you...
My neighbour once lent me his lawnmower. It changed my life.
LMAO!
Mine loaned me his old one yesterday, lol.
🤣

Yes the organic workflow.

Also it should have a built in contact mic and be fully CV controllable.
But where would the LFO plug in?
Sounds like a project for 'Look mum no computer' ;)

Can hear the folk guitar influence quite well at like 5:00, reminds me of kinda maggie rogers but if she went crazy with modular synths
This was very refreshing.
if that little performance was winging it.... ends up being o0ne of my favorite pieces of music
