This guy is absolutely wonderful, even if he wasn't a great guitarist and skilled craftsman he would still be a joy to interview. If only everyone was this inspirational when talking about their instruments.
What a guy - you can honestly feel how intensely interested he is in the job he does every day. Hopefully there'll be a demo soon showing what the piezo on its own sounds like. As a long-term disliker of piezo systems, I'm curious to see if this new approach will bring me round!
Hey guys, thanks for sharing this wonderfully thoughtful and considered discussion on such a very important topic to both us guitarists...and the worlds forests!! This new Taylor maple guitar sounds beautiful with it's own unique voice, so I'll be saving up to add one to my stable!! It would also be so cool to have a quality guitar with my own name on the headstock!! By the way, as Guitarist subscriber and a regular Andertons customer(no wonder you can afford the trip to Namm Lee! lol) it's great to see you guys working together out there :))
I had my preconceptions about maple as well, but my Squier P-bass is made of maple (body and one piece neck/fretboard) and sounds amazing, and my Alvarez AJ80 is made of maple and spruce and sounds amazing. Not to mention how good they both look.
A number of Maton guitars also use Maple (Queensland Maple) and they also sound great. Is Maton using a bracing similar to the Taylor 600's or is there's a whole different approach?
Whats with all the negativity? I was only pointing it out, thus the smiley faces. it wasnt a critisism just an observation. so Happy Whale take a flying fuck!
I'm not into argument's online or being a "keyboard warrior", I can't guide how anyone reads things or how they may misinterpret things I may or may not type. You say to me: "think over" I say to you, don't "over think". sometimes a comment is just exactly that, for the record I think what Rob has done is amazing, I've even had a HUG from the big man himself, very awesome guy. And Lee has taken a Family business to the next level and damn that man can play the blues! Don't look for negativity, as it can blind you to the positive, focus on the positive, the smiley face :) as for the F/F its been taken back and put in a small box. Take it easy, and as always, have nice day!
Taylor noise problem:I purchased a new 2015 Taylor 614CE about three months ago. Its a beautiful Maple guitar like Andy Powers is playing in the video. It plays fantastic and sounds awesome, however, it does have a slight buzzing/vibration rattle "after sound" when strumming open string chords really gently. It isn't an electrical buzz. The noise is around the bridge area and it drives me nuts when playing it quietly. Certainly can't hear the noise when it is amped up but that's just drowning out the noise!!!My local guitar shop worked on it for nearly two hours and couldn't resolve this irritating sound. He adjusted the truss rod, put on new strings, checked and adjusted the electronic pickup system, reset the strings to a better height, checked the saddle, bridge, etc. It doesn't make this noise when single notes are played and the frets do not buzz. We tried several picks and that didn't make a difference either. After watching him for over an hour testing ever component of the guitar, I decided to take a short break. I went into the "high end" acoustics room and tested several of the more expensive Taylor guitars ($10,000) and shockingly ALL the Taylors had this same noise problem. I finally picked up a Gibson dreadnought and it played as clear as a bell. No noise vibrations or buzzing what-so-ever. Needless to say, I'm a little concerned and confused about Taylor guitars. I own a 1975 Epiphone dreadnought and a 1956 Stella acoustic and they certainly don't make this type of noise. So what's going on with Taylor guitars? Is the problem the bracing, saddle, bridge, wood, strings, etc? Maybe my ears are too sensitive and shouldn't be picking up this faint noise!Any suggestions on fixing this problem would be appreciated. Thanks
+Gary Trim Hi Gary, I had similar problem with my 2015 Taylor 616ce. As soon as I struck a string (the d string being the worst) I would hear this annoying rattle sound that maybe only lasted a second or two, but still drove me crazy! I figured out that the noise was coming from the tone controls area. I had the pre-amp replaced, ( covered under Taylor warranty) I now don't hear the rattle anymore. Hope this helps.
+Gerry Park Gerry, did you hear this noise when your Taylor was amplified or unamplified? I don't hear the noise when amplified but maybe the volume is drowning out the noise. On your guitar, was the pre-amp making the noise when amplified or was there a loose connection? Thanks for your input!!
Taylor Swift needs to take vocal and guitar lessons and that's a fact. Sorry to bust some bubbles out there but the 600 series is not going to help her that much.

Taylor is in very good hands-Andy is a genius and a visionary builder and an excellent player as well-nice job
I have a 614ce and over the last few years the tone is just getting better and better, Andy Power is a credit to his profession .
This actually is really heartwarming and inspiring, every guitar company should think the way Taylor does:)
Sounds beautiful

Love it when the instrument speaks for itself, the demo was perfect. Great guitar.
I love Andy's playing... nice production as well, technically and content wise.
i love the player great way to demonstrate the guitar
Sounds magical *tear*
Wow, fantastic interview. Good job Taylor. They know how to make beautiful guitars.
Craftsman, visionary and genuine nice guy. Will look out for Taylor in the future.
Man, Andy Powers is magical, inspiring person! I love what he has done for Taylor.
Like the sustainability ideas they have planning for a future. Job well done Taylor, you have me sold.
I love this guy. Seems like a big ol' hippie in the best kind of way
A revamped 400 series coming soon I suspect. I sure do love the sound of my Ovangkol.
Whats the tune he plays in the beggining
did you ever find out?
@@georgelaw5989 yes
wow, first off very tasty playing and that Taylor, as expected sounds real nice.
Bought my 618e in April 2015 with that gorgeous Brown Sugar stain, and, it genuinely sounds better today than when I bought it.
Awesome...changed my mind about Taylor Guitars for sure! Wish the Victory and CAP-10 were fired up tho!!
awesome video. looking at the 600 series for my next acoustic. this is really helpful and they sound great!
Andy Powers is a great player, I love his demos.. Taylor is lucky to have him!!
Wish Andy had time to give tours at El Cajon!
Hey guys, i would just like to ask. What song was Andy playing at the beginning of the video?? someone please respond.. thanks so much!!
Thank you! Super interesting and inspiring! Nice sounding (and looking) guitar! That one goes on my list!

Wood has less effects on electric guitars than acoustics.
Jonathan Dean Actually it has little to no effect whatsoever.
Hawx I disagree
Hawx I disagree with as much conviction as it is possible to muster.

Good product placement, Chapman Guitars CAPT10 and a victory amp! :) oh yeah nice acoustic :)

Love the guitar, and that intro song was Amazing! What was it?
what's the song Andy plays at the start? or is it improv?
Odd string buzzing at end. Fabulous player
How about ebonized maple fingerboard to make it completely local?
I suspect he is going to head that way.
wow sounds amazing ! , But where is Rob?
recording his band's first album atm
Some clipping on the guitar parts at the end. Wonder what is causing that.
Someone find out what the song is at the beginning!
did you find out mate?
what song does he play?
did you find out what the song was?
Maple rules !
Nothing more awkward than "watching" someone play music.
Andy Powers is the Willie Wonka of acoustic instruments.

my Taylor had the same noise and I noticed it was the battery compartment spring which vibrates. Putting the battery in solves the problem for me :)
No wonder Taylor Swift prefers this guitar series...
