Hi, very informative video. I will be flying to Fukuoka in late January next year. Will be travelling from Fukuoka to Beppu to Kumamoto and then back to Fukuoka. I understand that the temperature will be around 10 deg C to 3 deg C. Is it safe to take a road trip during the winter period in January? What is the road conditions like for my intended itinerary; flat or mountainous or mixture? Thank you.
roughly how much did you have to spend for the tolls over 3-4 days driving ? i ask because im wondering if it would be better just to by a kyushu pass for the time i spend there ? or would i possibly just be better off paying for tolls as i encounter them ? **please ignore my question, it was made just before the end of the video where you posted your expenses ;)
This is a good question….i happened to stumble across the KEP (Kyushu expressway pass) when looking for a map of the highway service centres (neat stops). As we were doing a southerly one way trip from Hakata to Kagoshima, we’re racked up the mileage and we got a 5 day pass for around 6600 yen. This is a bargain as in the first day 159km Hakata to Kumamoto city we pass through enough ETC booths to break even. Just a note that the Kyushu pass does not cover the in city expressways in Fukuoka city and they will be charged separately. As I am from Canada, the first day driving experience is taxing as you relearn how to drive on the opposite side. My recommendation is that highway driving initially for a while after driving around for enough time (30 mins or so) in the city neighbourhood, will help you too settle your mind. We got upgraded to a Toyota Roomy from a Yaris and enjoyed the trip. Speed limits are quite slow as highway is average 80km/h in town 40kp/h is common. Many locals go faster than this and the nanny navigation system will hammer that point home if you accidentally get carried away.
informative, thank you. Everyone looks to be wearing thick, what month was this trip done in?
@@tngchinghwa Hi there! We were there in March and weather ranged around 10-14deg
Google Map or Waze can be used?
Yes both can be used (:
Did you use youtrip for the car rental payment?
It depends on what you would want to maximize for. For us, we used a general spending credit card that allows for miles collection (:
Are you using your mobile phone navigation system? Why not use the system in the car? Is it not user friendly?
Is Waze accurate in Kyushu area?
Thanks
We didn't try the in-built navigation tool inside the car but assuming the map is updated, it should work fine. We chose Waze using our phone because we were familiar with the interface, and it was easy to place it at an eye-level for a quick glance while driving. We didn't had any issues with Waze navigation throughout the trip :)
@@JoshDanIt I see...can we use the rented portable WiFi to connect to our handset? Will I get good signal if I'm at remote places cos I'm worried without gps I'll be lost somewhere I don't know.
@@jawsyap We used the portable wifi and did not face any issues with the connection. Separately, we also had data (on standby). It will be good to have both just in case one stops working.
Do you need an international or Japan drivers permit to rent?
@@darrennielson564Yes, you will require an international driving licence. The driving company will request for it upon picking up the car (:
Do we need to pay a downpayment for car reservation ?
You do not need to make a downpayment to reserve the car. The car rental payment will be made on the spot when you pick it up.
Thanks ! For the driving license, can we use driving license from singapore / australia ?
Or do we have to apply for special driving permit ?
@@goodlifebdg You will need to apply for an international driving license to drive in Japan (:
@@JoshDanIt that singapore & aussie are international driving licenses, but is it correct that we still need to apply for IDP (which is just a transalation of the license) ?
@@goodlifebdg Yes that is right! You will need to apply for IDP
