    Terrible demonstration…
    Didn’t show how you got distances, didn’t show how you got the tides…
    Didn’t show compass variation , and pulled 5 deg leeway out of your backside

    Good to see that they are still flinging their bidons off into the countryside. Imagine just how much pollution one rider creates in their lifetime, now times that by (pro men and pro women} roughly 500. Disgraceful.

    Great explanation however computer gps will do the same and even better with weather conditions.

      Yes, but GPS should only be used as an aid to navigation. Not much good if it fails and you don’t have the knowledge to plot CTS on a paper chart.

      You have to study it for the RYA qualification.

      Although electronic charts now satisfy USCG chart requirements. I still keep paper charts on my boat and regularly practice using them even though I am only a costal weekend sailor for now. Its a great skill that could come in clutch if you experience a total power failure while making a passage. If you are marking out your position on the chart daily from GPS, you at least know the rough direction you need to keep the boat pointed to find the shore again even if everything else shuts down.
