- On April 23, 2014, the New England Conservatory Philharmonia and Calderwood Director of Orchestras Hugh Wolff returned to Boston's Symphony Hall for the first time since 2010 to present one of the final concerts in NEC's year-long series dedicated to the theme of "Music: Truth to Power." The concert opened with this performance of Beethoven's "Overture to Egmont, Op. 84," which Wolff prefaces with a brief statement on the Overture's relevance to the "Truth to Power" theme, alongside the other works on the program.

This is of course a youth orchestra. In 40 years of hearing the finest musicians perform this overture it is also among the best performance I've yet encountered! Kudos to conductor and musicians, it doesn't get any better than this.
