Wow, why is no one addressing the real issue?? That the incompetent zoo director allowed a fence so poorly designed that a small child could climb through. If the fence were properly designed, the child would have never gotten in, regardless of what the mother was doing.
I so disagree with Jack Hanna ..... I hope this haunts the mother the rest of her life. This was a senseless kill. I truly believe something else could be done. The animal always suffers when it is a humans fault.
as much as i love jack hanna, i also think that harambe was not going to harm him. obviously they cannot take the risk but harambe was clearly trying to protect the kid.
+gta54life 4945 there is a fence than a 10ft drop... If a mother can't keep an eye on her child long enough for them to climb a fence and fall 10ft, they should bring their children to places like this
Exactly!!!! Why aren't people more focused on the obvious neglect by the zoo??? Allowing a fence so poorly designed that a child can easily climb through..
She AND the zoo need to be accountable. Not being a parent, I'm not gonna say what the mom shoulda done better, but the zoo could at least have an electric fence to keep people away from the enclosure.
Nume Moon You have any ideas the amount of legality behind that it could shock and hurt people etc. There is is many more safe ways to build a proper fence
Zach Dillenger LOL, I don't think you understand what an electric fence is. Have you ever touched an electric fence? I grew up in Wisconsin, where every other kid in school was a farm kid. And we all grew up around those solar powered electric fences you can buy at any farm supply store, and we've all been accidentally shocked at one point or another, and we all know how silly your statement is about this kind of fence causing any actual damage. One gentle shock, and that kid woulda maybe cried because that first time is, well, shocking, but it wouldn't have hurt the kid. There's _no actual pain_ involved in touching such a fence. It simply forces a tiny electrical "cringe" in your body like a big shudder. I wouldn't even call it a convulsion because you're not knocked to the ground or anything. It's no more harmful than when your mom yanked you out of the way of an oncoming car when you were little. It might have scared you to tears at that age, but it didn't hurt you. You put up a couple signs near the fence to let elderly people know an electric fence is in use, so no one with a pacemaker tries to touch it. *Important:* You don't put it where people will walk up and touch it. You put it _beyond the thorn bushes_ of this particular zoo, and people would need to trespass through a thicket of thorns to get close enough to touch it. Should a kid get past the thorns (like this kid did), a shock would keep him SAFE. Had this been already in place, his mother or someone else would have heard his cry before anything bad happened. That zoo already has one hot wire above the enclosure to deter climbers, but NOTHING like that for kids. Their security is all about keeping adults out, not kids. They need something specifically to keep the little ones out. One little shock is waaay better than a dead animal, or worse, a dead kid.
I think Haranbe was trying to protest the boy. he saw the people screaming and shouting as a threat. Everyone should have just stayed calm, The zoo staff could have given Haranbe food with sedatives. Then when he was asleep, they could have gone in and took the boy out.
Yep I agree being loud will just scare the gorrila hence why it dragged the child, there has need many other incidents where the crowd stayed quiet and the gorrila protected the child
Very sad kid. Trump tells the truth. I guess you can't handle it. A vote for Hillary is a vote for the same people who killed JFK. Get a masters in History then come back and respond. Educate yourself; Webster Tarpley PhD, fulbright scholar. I suggest you start with Sharia Law. Take a look at Germany and France.
Anyone who is or has been a parent - or anyone who has cared for young children knows that even the most diligent and conscientious of caretakers will have moments when the child can slip away. It is foolish for people who were NOT there and did not witness the event - to blame the parents. Of course the zoo did the right thing - sad as it is.
I completely agree! I feel sorry for the mother. Not only did she almost loose her son, but now it seems most of the world wants her in prison or even dead. Anyone who says she was neglecting her child is pretty stupid.
There is situation where you can be less alert and there, she had to be with the kid. If it was me, I would have stay right beside my kid. Also, why nobody saw the kid climb. 2 option: nobody care about the kid or the mom was away and didnt do his job. I blame the mom and the Zoo.
Wow Donald Trump actually said something I agree with. I love this video because I'm tired of hearing on social media about "it should've been sedated" and stuff.
If you listened to more of what Trump actually says instead of the media's spin of what he says you'll probably find that you agree with him more than you might think
I suppose we can agree to disagree on that, but even if you were right, it's not good enough. Being "not that bad of a person" isn't good enough when you're running for president. For example, I'd say a prerequisite should be believing in climate change. In an ideal world, I'd say a prerequisite should be giving one straight answer on anything ever.
lapelcelery42 Everyone believes in climate change. Global warming is a very different topic on the other hand. Trump predicted the Brussells attack months in advance. He also predicted the outcome with the war in Iraq. Trump doesn't believe we should be barking up other peoples alleys
Josh Potts Then let me rephrase and say I think a president should agree with 95% of peer reviewed scientific papers on the existence of man made global warming, not assume he knows better. Also, being able to predict the future doesn't excuse his strategy of running on attacking others instead of giving information on any actual policies he has. Have you ever actually read a transcript of any campaign interview he's given? He just strings together buzz words and imparts no meaning. Maybe most importantly, I strongly disapprove of him using an entire audience as a tool to attack protestors at his rallies. I'd never vote for a president who's gonna tell hundreds of people to beat me up, throw me out or hate me because I disagree with him. Trump is clever enough to know that in the age of sound bites, confidence and buzz words (as well as casual racism in certain areas) will get you popularity. He's made a career his whole life out of bluster and gambling, and that's exactly what his campaign is.
Poor Haramba. I wish he didn't have to die. Couldn't they have used a heavy dosed tranquilizer to knock the gorilla out instead of killing him, or should that just make him more angry and hurt or kill the child before he would get knocked out?
You can't blame a naive child for being dumb enough to crawl into a gorilla cage and saying he deserves to die if you have any sense of morality. Obviously I feel sad for the gorilla but it wasn't only his fault the gorilla did grab the child he could of simple ignored it there was no other choice.....
No harm was intended by the Gorilla , as a matter of fact he looked protective over her son. Taking I'm away from all these screaming stupid idiots. The only thing I'm upset about is that they had to go to that extent of killing the Gorilla.
There is no excuse why the designers of the enclosure did not consider that there should be ZERO access point to the pit. This should set a precedent to investigate and audit all wild life enclosures for safety. If nothing is being done, shame on all of these zoos. There will always be stupid people, and putting an exhibit like this, is taking on responsibility to ensure public safety even if he public is stupid.
Its natural instinct for the gorilla to protect his 'home'. I don't think they should have killed the gorilla because an irresponsible mother couldn't watch her kid. I am not saying that the kid should have died I'm just stating that i don't think the gorilla should have been killed.
Anyone ever heard that this has been discussed and destroyed 100's of times already. People want the animals in the open, so no cages like when I was a kid.
