Exactly what I was thinking. He’s easily top 3 English centre backs. Big part of Liverpool’s amazing defence when they won the PL and UCL.

Chilwell's situation is actually ridiculous. Southgate takes him to the Euros, which means his summer break gets extended and he misses most of preseason. But Sputhgate doesn't play him in the Euros so he goes months without playing or training. So Tuchel starts Alonso, who plays amazing. So Chilwell has to sit on the bench because there's no justifying benching a player in such good form. And then his lack of playing time brings in to question whether he should be picked for the England squad. It's such a vicious cycle. Chilwell is potentially missing out on club and International football just because he played well enough to get picked by Southgate for the Euros. And he's missing all this game time despite not actually playing a bad game or being in bad form.
Southgate didn't pick him in the squad with the intention on not playing him. He got covid when all the rumours were he was going to be played.

I dont know why but my initial though was that he does (not 20 but just under). But he scored 16 last season, 13 the season before that and nowhere close in all his other seasons. I don't know why I thought he scored so many more (might be FPL bias).

Walker must be one of the most underrated players of his generation. Comfortably one of the top 5 RB in the world for most of his career yet still always seems to have justify his place in national squad. how do u play a 4-3-3 without 8s u have henderson who isnt a dm so he can play 8, but mount, foden, lingard, and grealish are not 8s all of them are 10s or wingers, so jude needs to be there over lingard 100 percent, im a utd fan but lingard is not better than jude and he cant play well against a low block.
@@bigman9208 its a fair point but I was talking more of 2 CAM 1 CDM or 1 CAM 2 CDMs similar to what gareth did in the euros, with rice and phllips. Ultimately it depends on what gareth wants to do. For me, if he wants to play defensive then jude shouldn't be selected at all as he wouldn't have a look in past the 3 DMs i selected, however if gareth was too play more attacking i would understand the dropping of phillips for jude. lingard for jude is also possible but i'd prefer dropping phllips if we were to be more attacking
the only thing that is 100% certain with this squad is, that it's soo hard to pick. as the guys said, you have players that aren't playing or arent in form at club level but are amazing for England, then rubbish for England and playing amazing at club level... my brain hurts just listening to this and trying to pick my team for the WC.

DCL is a better goal scorer than both of them. People are forgetting that he has more goals than Toney despite only playing 3 games
I’d be hesitant to take Toney, since Tammy and DCL are both a bit more reliable imo, especially since both of them have proved (Tammy somewhat) that they can do well.
Saka and Greenwood have been in really good form since the Euros but if I had to take one, I’m leaning towards Saka.

Why would you take Rashford over Saka 😂 Rashford he has been poor for a while now! Also in 14 months time Smith Rowe will probably force himself into the squad if he carries on like he is, he has been Arsenal's best play by a mile this season!

I don’t think both of them are world class. They both have a lot of flaws.
Rashford 2 in 2 shut you up
I thought it for a while and from Southgate's perspective, it doe make sense to have 4 right backs. TTA and Walker are instant picks. And now, you need Reece James in case someone gets injured or if Walker has to play LCB in a back 3. And, you need Trippier for the same reason but for left backs. It's not really 4 right backs, it's 3 left backs and 3 right backs + versatility.
Saka for Chilwell 🤣 saka hasn't played at LB for years and there's already enough forward players. Saka just isn't needed

Rashford has been bang average for the last year and a half regardless of all the goodwill around him, he really needs to take some serious steps if he is to get in that squad before Saka.
Leave Chilwell in the squad and replace Rashford with Saka. Also, if Toney keeps doing his thing, he gets in before either DCL or Abraham, his link-up play is far better than the other two.

Henderson is also able to talk to the ref more sensibly because he has more experience!
