I’m so glad this clip has the post-“May Day” part: “…and the Sabres BOMB out on the ice, to mob Brad May!” Also, Keith Carney getting the secondary assist is an answer to a good Sabre trivia question.
If you say ‘Mayday’ to most people, they know you were talking about a potential disaster. If you say ‘May Day’ to a Sabres fan, it means something completely different.
i live in Boston, and this is still one of my favorite goals ever….not just cuz of the famous call, but May with the great move on Bourque, AND LaFontaine’s awesome pass while laying on the ice👍🏼
@@omalley5196 my bad. I wasn't at the game but watched it. I never saw the sabres win a series yet I was just a boy. I remembered my father telling me we haven't won a series in a while but that all changed after that goal! Go sabres!
@@sashabenner3916 it's cool bud. Your post didn't imply you were there. I was just watching that play and reading the posts thinking about how awesome it would've been to be at that game. Then I saw your post about how it's the first series win of your childhood. Or that you remember. And I just thought damn being at that game as a young kid you would be a fan for life by the time you got to your parents car. But saying that I'm sure your actual memory of watching the game with your dad is a great memory as is. I watched that game with my grandfather in his basement and his basement wasn't like these awesome man caves some people have today. And thinking about it now that memory is just fine as is. But it would've been cool to be there. And sorry for rambling on and on I tend to do that when I'm tired and i haven't slept for too long. But that's another story you don't want to hear. Go sabres!!!
@@omalley5196 Yeah I just remembered that the previous year we lost to those chowder heads in 7 games. I was a boy so I cried and cried( plus I'm a HUGE fanatic bills fan so this is in the middle our 4 year straight super Bowl run. A lot of tears and disappointment all around but man it was fun to live in wny and be a sports fan!) So this game 4 win was....i have the Rick jeaneret call for my e ring tone. It's so special. I'm nuts about the sabres and bills. Thank you for writing back. Let's go Buffalo!
Rick Jeanneret: The Sabres sweep the Bruins, 6-5 the final score! Next stop: LA BELLE PROVINCE! (Buffalo will play against Quebec or Montreal when they win the series, the second round is Buffalo/Montreal)
The official you saw is linesman Wayne Bonney. Referee Denis Morel put his arm up for a delayed penalty, but he was on the other side of the ice out of range of most of the TV cameras.
not a Sabres fan, but you gotta LOVE this call. One of my all time faves. Thanks and congrats on your career RJ
Breaks my heart seeing hawerchuk jumping in the pile. Ugh he was so young. Heard from fellow alumni how great of a man he was.
I forgot he passed. Thank you for reminding me. What a great player. Him and Patty were a great 1 2 combo. RIP Dale. Go sabres!
I have an official CCM Sabres Hawerchuk jersey from 1992. It's bad ass. So sad he passed. One of my favorites growing up.
The Lafontaine pass to set up the goal is possibly the greatest ever.
I always thought so! Glad you said it!
Love how this is the complete call. Hate it when the other highlights cut off before he finishes the call..."HOW DO YOU SPELL SECOND ROUND"
Been a fan since 1971-72, but this was my favorite goal and call by RJ. I was 27 years old at the time of this goal.

The Sabres hadn't made it past the first round since 1983, so this goal was huge. Too bad they were promptly swept by Montreal the next round.
And then when Pierre Turgeon finally comes back, the Habs cap off New York in five.
I was there, in the Oranges, right above Andy Moog. 30 years later and it's still my favorite sports memory.
I saw that live on cable. It was so awesome!
Great goal call ever. Great memories. It was my first series win ever!
Do you mean it was the first one you remember growing up? Or were you at the game?

It’s hard to believe this was 30 years ago. It’s still as beautiful and as impressive as it was then. May Day all day, every day! 👍🔥⚔️
RIP RJ
Rip Rick

Rip RJ.
3:46 I miss Blossom Hardware!
How did the ref who literally was right next to lafontaine not call a clear tripping?
I have always wondered about this as well.

Plus, it was a delayed penalty because the Bruins never touched the puck.
How do you spell second round!
So awesome to see Keith beat the bruins 😂
