- Based on the classic adventure role-playing saga for NES, Crystalis Symphony is an epic re-imagined orchestral tribute to the memorable game music from Yoko Osaka's Crystalis soundtrack, the song is available on my site (www.samostudios...) and coming soon for iTunes and other outlets!

Holy mother of god, do more from this game. It's one of my absolute favorites.
0:00 Intro cutscene music (after pressing start at the title screen)
1:13 Title Screen
1:20 Tower in the Sky
2:08 Town Theme
2:39 Inside the Pyramid
3:15 Draygon Battle
3:49 Ending cutscene music
4:36 Closing Credits (part 1)
5:14 Prologue cutscene music (before title screen)
6:01 Closing Credits (part 2)
0:47 kind of sounds like the start of a different song but kind of sounds like the same song only louder and grander so I could have missed that.
If there’s any game in the history of games that deserves a “Breath of the Wind” style epic re-make, it’s Crystalis. There. I said it.
This is one of the greatest games ever in the NES era, and the soundtrack was one of the things that really set it apart. You did a fantastic job of taking this beyond 8-bit.
It's my 5th favorite NES game, the NES being my favorite console of all.
@@wtcvidman Nothing comes close to the nes era. So many classics. The music was so simplistic. It had to be VERY good to be good. It sounds just amazing in an orchestra. Strip away the music to its base form. If thats not good. Then its not good. Alot of the classical era of music, is just bleh to me. Alot of it sounds just like a bunch of notes on paper. There is exceptions like Air on a G string, Moonlight sonata, among others. But I really feel like the 8 bit era of gaming had some of the catchiest best tunes in just about any era.
Talk about a game that needs a 21st century re-introduction back to gaming.
I'm really trying not to cry here, you're not making this easy though.
You remembered the pyramid theme. That's my absolute favorite. Won my heart right there. And followed it up with the Draygon boss theme.
On the other hand: main overworld theme missing, and Mount Sabre/Mount Hydra theme missing. Those are 2 major ones.
Pyramid theme!! Glorious!
Exactly what you said. Respect.
I wonder why this game is forgotten. It introduced complex story elements into the gameplay that few 2d action adventures have ever matched, not even Zelda started doing it until the 64 bit era.
Precisely! The theme of technology being gone and suppressed and magic being normative is exactly the opposite of FFVI, I think. Deeper than given credit for. Got it for my 14th birthday. Months of adventure followed.
this game stole 3 years of my life.
Crystalis is my favorite NES game, I've played it through more times than I can count. This is incredibly well done, bravo. P.S. Do more Crystalis.
Same here.
It's awesome to be able to play it on the PS4 now with The SNK Collection.
I love this. Such a shame that my favorite theme, the Angry Sea theme, wasn't included. I'd love to hear both an orchestral and a saxophone-based jazz version of that theme.
AHHHHHH I'VE BEEN WAITING LIKE, A LITERAL DECADE FOR AN ORCHESTRAL REMIX OF THIS GAME. If you can do a whole line up with this one that would be amazing.
By far the best version out there.
This was great, wish it was 20 minutes longer!
One of the best meditations on the power of nostalgia and the pure visceral emotion of a childhood well spent. I hope to one day bring this to an epic live concert event. Awe inspiring work that yearns for a longer version. Already listened 5x in a row. I could not put it away. It's too good. We've waited decades for this! Thank you.
Hearing this amazing theme done this way is absolutely stunning. Thank you for this.
This is one game I would love to see be made into either a multi-movie epic or series.
This game is a treasure. I can’t believe I played it twenty eight years ago.
This makes me wish there was an epic movie to go with this new high quality soundtrack.
Amazing. Would have loved to hear the fortress theme in there as well. The shyron theme, gave me the chills. That part of the game was the first time I saw widescale death in a video game, i was very young. And it stayed with me, and that tune brings back that sorrow and horror i felt as a child.
I just listened to a progression of music by Bach spanning many of his pieces during his lifetime. And have seen many of such type videos. That era of music. Kinda got lost in the overcomplication of melodies and harmonies. Always trying to impress with how complicated it was. But it doesnt make it better. I wonder how they would react to some of the amazing 8 bit era music done in orchestra like this. Because in my humble opinion. That era had the best music in gaming. They didnt have the option to overcomplicate the music due to the limitations of the system. So the music had to be very good at its core.
Wonderful rendition. Thank you!
Yeah, was hoping to hear Shyron theme as well
This medley needs a sequel. Here are the tunes I would request:
Overworld theme
Mount Sabre
Angry Seas (On the Dolphin)
Shyron
Desert
billny33 agreed! The Sea theme and the mountain theme are my two favorites
highflyer011 my fav was always the pyramid theme. I'm glad it was covered here. Love it. I was just surprised the main overworld theme was missing.
@@highflyer011 Angry Sea is the best one in my opinion and the Mt. Sabre and Mt. Hydra theme is great too. I also love the somber sound of Shyron especially considering what happens there (probably the darkest thing to ever happen in an NES game). I'd also be very interested in how an orchestral version of the poison forest theme would sound. I'd imagine it would be low sounding with perhaps the triangle and some chimes to add some higher notes.
this is great! hearing the tower music in the beginning threw me off
This is incredibly amazing and just wish I had discovered it sooner. Crystalis is my all time favorite NES game and hands down the title I played the most out of my childhood. It was an incredible experience to relive the game music in your style! Thank you very much for creating it!
You should be scoring movies. Your arrangements remind me of Danny Elfman and the composer of LOTR Howard Shore iirc
Holy crap, this is the biggest nostalgia trip I've ever experienced!
Angry Sea theme would have been the cherry on top (best song in the game IMO), but this is still great.
Here's the rock version... ruclips.net/video/_iOhj9TKKIk/видео.html
Nope, still makes me tear up. ^_^
I think, it was THE BEST GAME on NES, I played all Games on NES, I'm 1979 born, but thus Game is the best. ☺️☺️ And Super Mario Bros 3 👍🏻
Wow, this really has a lot of nostalgia. Raging sea is one of my favs 🐬
Mine too, but I didn't hear it; where was it?
Throughout whole video/song, I had a permanent smile on my face. Thank you so much, for not only taking me back to my childhood, but making this arrangement be what I always envisioned the composer was striving for out of 8 bit audio.
My truest respect!
thanks for giving love to this amazing game that many have forgotten in their minds... but never in their hearts
@SamoStudios I saw a few comments requesting a sequel featuring some of the other songs from the game, like Raging Sea (no lie, I would listen to just that one on repeat), but yeah, I wanted to refresh that request and add a +1, pretty please and thank you. Otherwise, just wanted to say thank you again for this, that brass section at the end brings the feels man! 🏆🙌🙌🙌
Such a great arrangement! One of my all time favorites and what a good OST! Would be really great if you arranged the entire soundtrack this way.
Also, by the way, the loudr.fm link isn't working properly.
Spotify bought them out, so...yeah... :"(
This is fantastic! I saved it so that I can listen to it while writing a spicy retelling/reimagining of the game's story. 😊
This is an absolute masterpiece. I wish that each section was a full length theme on its own. I would pay for this. I could see this being used on a theatrical release of this game. Masterfully done sir! Sent shivers down my spine.
You'd have my money too!
I REALLY want a remake now! I don’t care how small or stupid it seems!!!
2:09 sucked me in like a black hole back to 1990...Who wants to go back and stay with me?!
Hearing this orchestrated gives it major joe hisaishi vibes….. like considering the game takes inspiration from ghibli this makes it more aparent
I absolutely loved this game, it deserved way more recognition, and the st is one of the best.
I'm upset I am only just now chancing upon this!
Just amazing!
You touched my hearth with this.
Is Part of my childhood!
THANKS THANKS THANKS!
Incredible!
Immediately liked before I even heard it. Thanks for remembering.
we need a remake for ps5!
Great stuff, flowed very well. And I can see this being played in the credits for a fully remade Crystalis, if such a thing were to ever happen. Wouldn't mind seeing a tribute for Faxanadu and Battle of Olympus if you're ever inspired.
Edit: Just noticed some of your other material, so now I'm going to sit back and listen to them all!
I agree, those two games would be awesome to hear in this orchestral style.
This is the finest recognition anyone has dedicated to this game ever. I love Crystalis so much, i would love it if there were a team dedicated to creating a remake with this music. Clearly the only way music like this can be made is by passion for the world this game had provided.
Holy shit. Crystalis. My 1st RPG ever. I loved this game.
You just earned yourself a new subscriber from this video alone! Time to explore the rest of your channel now :)
This is full of nostalgia we are lucky for know this game, and in person I don't know no-one who know crystalis, someone here cries too when all the people in the mount sabre was killed?
Don't know if I cried, but I was shocked and depressed.
This is a masterpiece
4:53 what a transition
You are wonderful and I love you for this
What no Wild Fields, I'm disappointed please get to work making it GOD Bless.
Very Zelda like. Very cool
Zelda is a great example of how the most popular and the best are not always the same... Crystalis was way better than the original zelda, had way more detail, much bigger maps, more story, all of it. Zelda was easier and had much better marketing I guess
Nintendo or SNK. Anyone! Remake this game foe the love of gaming!!!
what an amazing find, I would love to hear the entire OST done, Lagoon is another series or Lunar with great music.
I couldn't sleep last night and started playing Crystalis. Made it up to where you gotta find that one sage guy and give him the necklace without a break.
How have I never heard of this before now. Just. How.
@samostudios I would like to use this song for a nostalgic review and look back at Crystalis for the NES. This would be used as background music for the review itself and I will give you credit and link to this page directly.
No problem, you are welcome to do so :)
Hello Mr. Dillard. My question for you is when you create video game remixes do you just focus on Nintendo games or do you create remixes for other systems as well? Examples such as PC\DOS, Sega consoles ect. Cool song BTW.
When I compose for myself, I just do songs from games I personally like which are mostly from Nintendo systems since that's what I grew up on, when I do remixes for others it can be any system. For example, I am working on a ton of new remixes including Skyrim, Bioshock, a few Steam indie games, and more. Sometimes even combinations, like how I just finished a Metroid/Halo mashup song.
Do you think you would make these other remixes available for purchase in the future? Or is there legal quibbling that would stand in the way?
Most of these other remixes will be released in the near future, the main thing holding me up at the moment is doing other work to make a living in the meantime.
My god . Amazing . What did you use to make this !!
This is epic and so well done. You are amazing. Thank you.
Great sound, what is this, sampling or really an orchestra was gathered?
The brass shadows the flutes section that delivers the main melody.
OMG! Someone remembers this! It was my favorite! I've completely re-mastered the entire story and even begun some CGI work on this just for fun - but a remastered score! YES!
Hi. Is any of your CGI work available? I don't really play games any more but I have very fond memories of Crystalis. It made November-December 1990 special
Amazing work. This was a surge of nostalgia
Today Square Enix release Secret of Mana Remake but why SNK doesn't do the same with this jewel is sad i hope some day... Even Nihon Falcom's Ys is currently played and is not that different Crystalis is almost the same as Ys.
Good news: They did! ^_^
great!
Wow imagine a remastered game with these tunes. A man can dream right?
Gorgeous as always, talented sir. Thank you for sharing. :D
Thank you!
The music is so good it made my youtube app crash.
This deserves far more recognition.
if someone does a remake on mesen it would be cool to use these songs :)
Yo this is incredible. Great job
THIS GAME WAS SO MUCH BETTER THEN ZELDA GAMES
great stuff, amazing game....
This deserves more likes!!
This, sorry but the wrong word
A RUclips classical
Crystalis > any nes zelda.
Can't wait ❤️ best wishes
This is badass. How DID you do that?
Oh shit!! blew my mind
All upvotes that is rare. But still a testament to the quality, and possibly mostly the nostalgia. I'm writing with a smile, and haven't smiled like this so hard in a while. It feels good.
Good job opening your mouth fucking idiot. Now people will downvote just for you calling attention to it.
Its a cult classic. Severely underrated game that had the potential to be as big as Zelda or Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest
Me love you long time
i want mount sabre so bad
6:00
Ahhhhhhh, Memories... Awesome work!
You're the best in the biz!
Holy crap! Incredible work. Of course we want more. Don't think that diminishes the triumph of this work. It actually affirms it. Having said that... Raging Sea please?
incredible
Fantastic work!!! omg I miss this game sooo much!!! sooo glad it's coming back in the SNK 40th Anniversary collection this year!!
Awesome
More, please.
1,000 times yes!
This is amazing. I've been listening to it for days and I can't stop. This game is very dear to my heart and is my favorite game of all time. Thank you for making this for us! I'd like to see more love given to Wild Fields, Raging Seas, Goa Fortress, and Shyron too!
Well that was incredible.
(More of an "overture" than a "symphony," but an incredible arrangement nonetheless.)
Wow Sam. I never knew you made this! I was actually wondering how you would remake these tracks when I found this.
hey there! really well done...i've periodically gone to the 8-bit version of crystallis for years now, really happy to se it re-vamped. Awesome man!
Didn't hear MT Sabre though, awesome work anyways.that was epic.
Excellent. Reminds me of the recent Dragon Quest and Ni No Kuni soundtracks.
WOW!!!!... que recuerdos de la NES!!! Crystalis entre mis preferidos!
As a lover of this game, I found your channel. Your art is beautiful, my friend!
Memories. Definitely one of the best soundtracks in gaming history. I love listening to such great talent!
Wow realy good Epic remake of this Classic Game Theme. ^^
Amazing. Thank you for creating this.
Wow, thank you for doing this. Been so long...
