Stunning fly and a stunning tye loved watching you tye that, brilliant 👏
Another belter Davie. Thanks for showing how even someone who has experience and skills can adapt to the challenge. I like the "take your time" and "see how it sits". These constants are what I take as 2 of your best advice. And may I wish you and your family a Happy Christmas and a Braw New Year.
Hi Jim,
I'm glad you liked the fly and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family as well..

Merry Christmas to you and your family and all the subscribers.

Great to watch. Thanks Davy.
Just a lovely tie Davie.thanks
perfect Davie
Thanks!!
Great fly to fish with but a bit of a pain to tie, well done as usual Davie.
This little bugger has excited a few very large fish to the take which I lost. I tied them after Charlie Craven’s model from his book, “Basic Flytying” mostly 16’s. or 18’s. And I believe he tied his after John Barrs’model. Who tied his after Bobby McDonald the well known Scottish tyer from a century and a half ago. Ahh, the good old days. When I didn’t barely know anything. Oh yes, Bobby did name his original the “Carrot Nymph”. But it’s time I stopped this digression and tho’ I don’t know any of you personally still I wish y’all the blessings of the life He gave and I am forever in His debt, God. Bless all of you Davie.
Another really interesting video, thanks Davie, thanks
I have never tied this pattern. Looks great✌
A little different take on the Copper John , I like it . This is a very effective fly wherever fish lurk .
I give the body a coat too, it helps keep it from tarnishing in the box. Recoat once it gets chewed on a couple times...
Looks good Davie. 👍 Thanks!
Excellent 👌 davie
An excellent fly that sinks like a stone! I have caught many trout on this pattern! Masterful tie Davie, thanks for another one!
Nicely done davie 👍
beauty job
Quality davie. I'll need to try that.
Davie, thanks for all the videos. Any suggestions on a good sow bug pattern, and how to tie it? Thanks!
Won a summer competition on that wee flee Davie but with a copper beed at the heed 👍👍👍
Thanks Davie
Very nice and very American Davie. 👏
👍💪
Another incredible fly-tying pattern with a splendid technique that shows your high skill. A more technical question; what kind of camera and light are you using for filming your videos?
Hi Jan Jansson,
I use a Sony AX100e camcorder and a +2 filter screwed to the lens to get the closeup shot of the fly..The reason I like the camcorder is that I can zoom in with the auto focus and once I have the shot I want I then switch it off so as long as I don't move the camcorder it will stay in focus even if I zoom in or out..I mostly use my desk lamp as it is bright enough as you can see and if it's not you can always use the software to brighten it.I have attached a link to a video on the lamp I use.

I'm glad you liked the fly..
All the very best Davie..
Beautiful tie Davie. Can you tell us what UV epoxy you use/prefer?
Hi Stephen,
I use Bug Bond as it was the first one to come onto the market as far as I believe. I personally like it as there's very little odour off it and it does a good job..I'm glad you liked the fly and Merry Christmas..
All the very best Davie..
Excellent pattern Davie! In your opinion....what hooks sizes # are the best to tie this fly? Best regards from Argentina
Hi Matias,
Size 12s and 14s would be my favourite though it would certainly work in bigger or even a size smaller as well..I'm glad you liked the fly and Merry Christmas..
All the very best from Scotland..
Many thanks for answer my question Davie!!! Merry Christmas and happy new year.
🔥🔥👍
Where’s the bead?
You're up early tying flies Davie, I've tried a few times to tie your ptn with wire but it always breaks, do you think i'm doing something numptyish? is there a common error that i don't know i'm doing? i put it down to the twist on the wire as you wind it builds up till its twists itself in bits.
Hi Pete,
Just make sure that you adjust the arms of the bobbin holder so that the wire runs as smooth as possible and doesn't jam or ware on the same area of the wire as this is the main reason for it snapping..The ceramic bobbin holder does help, as when I first started doing this I had a metal one and it had to be super smooth and had to have a lot of patience.
All the very best Davie..
