If i remember correctly Yumiella being the hidden boss is an easter egg kind of thing, meaning you could play the game and not have to fight Yumiella, so maybe she could be the hidden boss but i thin it might be heading that she won't and someone else might be the hidden boss, like maybe Eleonora becomes the hidden boss because of jealousy of Alicia that would be a twist.

The fact that Alicia has no agency over her actions is quite sad when you think about it. But this episode did explain the world more and how it works. Like how facing the Demon Lord is a cannon event and can't be faced whenever. Makes me wonder if Yumeilia is even able to go to other countries which was her original intention

It also causes a point to note that if Alicia attacks yumeilia it’s likely not of her own free will but a forced point. Keep in mind she is the hidden boss. Leveling her up with her light magic might not have been the smartest plan. If that’s the case you can’t even be upset with alicia.

I didn’t expect the game to actually intervene in the world. Now for the fun of the second half, that was really good way of putting grinding into perspective in real life. Just keep going till you get stronger, and Alicia is saying “I don’t wanna die”, truly the best way to look at it. If you don’t wanna die, get stronger and so she fought back. I definitely laughed my head off when she fainted about going back in the dungeon 😂

    It kinda feels like the inversion of a trope we've seen in other stories;
there we had real people treat their new reality as a game.
Here we have our villainess treat the game as reality, but it still says "plot must happen because I'm a game".

In this episode, Yumiella cannot fly her dragon Ryu to the Demon Lord's domain and finds herself flying in circles by the game's boundaries ... Given how the power of the game forced Alicia to complete tasks to move the game play along, will Yumiella be forced into the hidden boss mode? Could Yumiella access the game's testing mode aka "God mode"

For a non-Patrick episode, this was by FAR the best. I totally agree about Alicia being controlled is super interesting and I keep looking at it like she's on a matchbox car racetrack and has to be guided to where she needs to be. The dungeon crawling was great and I know people complained she screamed every time even though it took forever but this is just her character type lol and that's what the trio like. So proud of her though to face not only the darkness that is Yumiella but also Ryu and then face 50 floors of a dungeon repeatedly to defeat the boss ... super cool.
The best part is her showing up the guys afterwards though. Much stronger than them.

I had the feeling that the game was controlling "game characters" much earlier in the season when the new principal mentioned that Edwin wasn't usually like that (constantly rude and accusatory toward Yumiella). Could it be that the "game" was controlling the three capture characters to play out the part of Alicia's defender while the "game" presumed that Yumiella was still acting in the role of Alicia's tormentor? Their attitudes may also have been game-influenced.

I guess it is a twist, but from how the love interests treated our girl and how her friend was always trying to make her a servant before they befriended each other, there was always a feeling that she wasn't playing along with the script and the world was doing everything possible to correct it naturally.

The plot affecting the world trope is something you see in Villianess Manga from time to time. It actually appears in My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom. The denouncement event in the first season. It's like the story plot tries to force the event even though Bakaraina has befriended all the pertinent characters and not done any of the bad stuff. It ends up being a plot by other characters with made up accusations since the main characters are not driving the event. It's not as prevalent or as important to the story but it's still there.

The other part that would make this plot really interesting is that there is a possibility that the "world" would take over Yumellia herself and force her to perform her in game role. It makes it even more crazy once you consider that up to the current point in the story Yumellia can probably solo everyone fighting against the demon lord.

  • @shane5200

If key plot points keep happening and are meant to happen. Wouldn't it be a bit worrying that the world might make Yumellia the hidden boss at the end anyways? I wonder if that scenario is forced, how would Yumellia and even Alicia deal with it? It could set up for a tragic ending or a happy ending depending on how this event goes.

@@thefinalday5858 If you are making a guess. Based on what we see in this episode. If the hidden boss route is forced upon this world. Then it would be logical that Alicia would have to deal with it unless Yumellia can somehow stop Alicia from being controlled by the plot of the game.
Regardless of what happens to Yumellia. If Alicia is under control of the plot for the sake of fighting the hidden boss. Then most likely when Alicia snaps out of it. She's probably going to regret what she's done.
This is just a guess on my part. But it seems like something that might happen.

Seems to me the answer is simple. It is an optional hidden boss fight. So Yumellia has her choice of whatever reason she wants. She can even use the narrative of the story and pretend to be overcome by darkness for some reason and throw the fight. She doesn't need to fight seriously.

This episode was so much more interesting then I expected. As the idea of the game plot taking away a character free will during curious moments. Was something that I did not think about but it’s a very interesting and also scary thought. That during some of the most important decision and moments of your life. You lose all your agency and when you come back you made a decision or actions that you otherwise would not do.
Also one could think that Yumiella was mean for training Alicia this hard. But she was just helping her as Yumiella did realize that if she did not help Alicia level up these trance moments of hers would just keep happening. So be raising her level further then the boys that would stop for the time being.
But how Yumiella scared off the guards at the entrance of the dungeon. Was a bit too much as she made them fear so much getting eaten by her dragon that they just ran away.
Anyway lovely episode I loved to see how the game affect their reality. As the world still acts like a game a bit rather then just being a more “normal” world

The autopilot thing opens up some interesting possibilities. For one, if Alicia is forced to do certain events... will she have to fight Yumiella as the secret boss at some time? Beating her is another matter, obviously. It's our lovely little black bundle of calamity we are talking about.
And the prince and co... will the world force them to behave in a certain fashion too? Are other important characters (for the in-world story) also under the same influence? What about Eleonora?
But perhaps the most important part: what the spy from last week said.
All that Demon Lord thing only happens in that country.
Those are some real good plot elements to spice up our usual chaos courtesy of dear Yumiella and her unique common sense.
I too want to see how are we going to wrap all this up in the remaining chapters we have available. Or even if we'll get a Season 2.
PD: I hope Yumiella takes Patrick with her next time she goes leveling up. That would be one interesting date indeed. Also if Alicia decides to invite the prince and co. next time dear Yumiella feels helpful and wants to share "the joy and fun of leveling up". That would definitely be one interesting outing indeed.

If you like this element of "world forcing the plot to happen" i have one recomendation for you.
There is a LN Called "Shimotsuki-san Mob wa Suki" (Shimotsuki is in love with the Mob Character). the story starts as your run-of-the-mill Romcom where the social outcast befriends the cutest girl but as the story progresses you can see things that the world forces upon the characters treting them like a Harem Romcom (instead of a game) It's super interesting, i'm up to the beggining of Vol. 5.
It has a manga adaptation but so far the manga hasn't adapted the vol. 1 yet, so you can search for the LN's.
    Nice video

@@AHBrandonReviewsits very very different, you should really stop learning about it now, leave it for after episode 12 because there has been a lot of foreshadowing in this last few episodes for something very shocking that should happen by episode 11 if they're adapting the ending of volume 1 of the novel, but the motivations and consecuences should be completely different from the novel by now, and that's a very good thing for some characters who have a very cruel yet deserved fate in the novel.

  • @SharmClucas

The compelling force of the plot gets mentioned fairly often in these Otome game based novels, but it's rarely a real thing. Just something the main character worries about to keep the will they/won't they element of the main romance going, or sometimes faint memories of a previous life where it played out exactly like the "game". I have read stories where it's a real force though, and it's pretty interesting when that happens. Something I find extra interesting is that this entire episode's plot wasn't in the novel. Well, the level up dungeon run happened, but Yumiella accidentally kidnapped Alicia in the novel. This anime is a very different story than the one I read. I've heard it's more based on the manga, and that's probably true. There are some parts that are great, like Yumiella's obtuse intelligence, but the original novel isn't well written. I HATED Alicia in the novel, she was a complete bigot, completely willing to do unforgivable things just because she refused to be proven wrong. This version of Alicia is very different; not only a more three dimensional person, but also pretty likable. I'm enjoying the changes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! I think another interesting thing about the game being the reality is that the slightly wonky 3D animations actually make a bizarre amount of sense. Do I think they intentionally did subpar 3D for this exact reason, no, probably not. But the blending of game and reality allows for more game logic to enter the reality, because I've played my fair share of visual novels and whenever they put 3D in there it rarely looks good. 😂

The main characters find out they're playing a role in a story this old man is writing (the guy loves tragic endings btw), leading to them trying to find a way to change the intended outcome and be free of the story's chains.

Princess Tutu is one of my all time favorite animes. I rarely see people mention it anymore- thanks for bringing it up! More people need to see the masterclass that is Princess Tutu- if they can get past the random silliness that actually makes sense in this world’s lore once you figure out what is actually going on.
Edit: I love the random silliness, but it’s how well written the series (and ending) is that makes it one of my top ten.

This is my favorite episode and made me like Alicia now. Even though these are two different shows she kind of reminds me of Aya from Magical girl site (minus all the edgy humor).
The reason why I say this is because Aya use to be very timid and very scared to fight back because of the people who was bullying her. She would start coming out her shell once she became comfortable with her powers.
In that world each girl is given a magical object known as a stick. Some are combat heavy while others are more passive. Aya's stick was a gun that shoots out a cloud shaped heart which gives her the ability to teleport objects and people to anywhere she wants. The downside to using a stick is that you have something called life span which are points that appear on your body. Each time you use the stick your points go down and when you run out you die. They don't auto regenerate.
The show doesn't expand on Aya's powers much but in the book she learns how to send thoughts and memories to others, give and take lifespan as well as limited time travel. Depending on how far back depends on how much lifespan it uses.
In my opinion the most useless stick in the entire series is known as "Lighter and Roomba" unlike most sticks that work on their own this stick needs another stick in order to work. The lighter is the sender of the magic while the Roomba is the receiver. Its in the show but very briefly.
The second most useless stick is in the manga only and is a compact mirror that allows the user to copy other sticks but it has no abilities of its own. It transforms into the stick the user copied but can only be used once and after that it despawns. To get the copy you have to touch a user who owns that stick and at max you can only have 10 at a time.
My personal favorite stick is a videogame controller because it releases an invisible wave of energy that pushes any target in front of you.

She can now predict minor and major canonical events so she can prepare Alicia and company.
She has already narrated that she has played the game more than a few times, so I figure she can kinda make predictions accordingly now.

I won't go into specifics but based on spoilers I've read of the original light novel, this episode was actually a big deviation. Alicia never went on "autopilot" in the light novels and she and Yumiella never had this bonding adventure. Assuming the season ends with the battle with the Demon Lord like I think/hope it will, the things introduced in this episode could potentially change this event a great deal. Or it might not. It’s interesting how there are autopilot decisions or predetermined actions or consequences. Rather creepy how that happens for many characters. Gives a different perspective for many actions. Wonder if there’s an entity involved in that world. There will be some differences coming up now. I also have this theory how Patrick might be the demon lord in the future. Or there’s some sort of connection. Yumiella could be a secret boss related to the demon lord. Just hope Yumiella can change her fate. I think there might be more to explore in the blonde girls connection to the story. Maybe she connects more to the main plot or becomes a strong ally or a new love interest for Edwin instead. 3D in isekai and fantasy are often bad unfortunately. There’s good 2D and character designs at least.

By this point I forgot of treating it as a game world, so I never thought of Alicia unconsciously being forced to commit to plot points as some plot twist. I don't even remember if this actually happened in the novel. However, not only this is an isekai, (Spoiler for volume 3: )
but this exact game world isekai has many parallel worlds. Since you brought attention to the heroine being forced to follow the game, it brings a question to my mind, what if every time someone starts a new game, another parallel world of this game world is created. The world will go on as usual past a certain point without the heroine ever losing control afterwards due to the game world(or the player?), since not every player completes their game, and not every player fights the hidden boss.

I am also wondering whose the second strongest right now, like i think its Patrick but i'm curious see whose at what level by now.
Also Patrick at the end i feel so sorry for the kid he's trying really hard and you just want to pat him on the back.

Interesting how Alicia is forced to follow the plot of the game even if she doesn't want to, the game will somehow take over her to push the story forward. I thought it was just naturally leading to it but I do like this discovery that it is anything but natural. Poor Alicia looked like she was going she was mentally worn out by the end of her experience in the dungeon with Yumiella, I wonder how many times she repeated "I don't want to die!" in the span of that day lol.

im wondering if they are gonna expand on the plot point of the demon lord o ly being a threat to just that country. im reading along with the books but i dont wanna read ahead of the anime lol

I wonder, if yumiella could visit the Demon King, if she didn't bring Alicia along. After all, Yumiella already severely messed up plot elements, and nothing stopped her.

I'm wondering why the subtitles say "amulet of protection" and not growth

In this episode there were amulets of protection--when Alicia gets seriously injured, the amulet heals her and then cracks/breaks as it is single use.

do you think that the hidden boss thing is pre determined?

my only question would be since Yumilia is an optional boss, does that mean the key moment wont make the Female lead fight against her? cause according to Yumilia you havent "beaten the game" if you haven't beaten her because she is the optional final boss, but she is still the final boss.

So I've read the novel, and the entire idea of her blacking out at important plot points straight up didn't exist. She tried to kill Yumilla of her own free will, because she was stuck on the idea that a black haired person had to be evil. I think the anime's approach is more interesting, and arguably more disturbing...

Will Allicia be compelled to fight yumellia after beating the demon lord

The manga has not gotten this far and the LN went the more boring route of "Alicia is a bitch who's actually the antagonist", so this is brand new anime-first territory I have not seen an Otome Isekai do before.

Nah, The novel actually has this plot as well. It was just very subtle (like super subtle) and not emphasize enough so it's easy to missed.
I missed it the first time reading it as well and only noticing it when I'm reading the novel again in preparation for the anime.

i wasn't expecting that but hey atleast alicia is now around level 50ish but one thing has me concerned if alicia gets to the end of the story won't she try to attack yumiella since she is the hidden boss?

Beast wars may have been early days poor quality CG, but at least it was uniform CG that was all of identical quality. That meant that, by consequence, everything blended together very well.
Just having a random CG monstrosity against a hand-drawn background plays very different in those terms.

    • @AHBrandonReviews

it was incredible quality at the time so me saying something looks like it in present day isn't a compliment but beast wars does look good based on when it was released. which you can't say about this shows 3d

@@AHBrandonReviews Oh, yes, I spoke wrong there. Yes, it was really good CG in the day. I meant poor by today's standards.
But, yeah. You get what I mean. The point is, the clash of art styles makes this CG objectively worse than Beast Wars. In fact, while the quality is probably a touch better than beast wars objectively (but still in the same ball-park, which is still not good,) by today's standards it comes off feeling like Quest World segments in "The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest."
