Unfortunately, it appears no one associated with this production read the source material LOL Cortland Mayfair was 80 when Rowen was born. Without Michael Curry there is no story. Even with her tendency to use 27 words when 6 will do, Anne Rice created the closest thing to perfect when she wrote The Mayfair Witches. It's television for heavens sake, this could be told over how many episodes necessary to tell the story as AR wrote it!

I thought it was just me. It has been a lot of years since I read the book but I thought Michael was an integral part of the story in the beginning. Or am I thinking of another one of her books? As confused as I am I will still watch and see where they take it.

I am beyound furious. Just finished watching this trash with Anne Rice's title slapped on it. So wrong in every single way. I was so excited when I saw the show pop up in my suggestions, as these books have never been made for screen, but alas. This is equally as bad as that God awful queen of the damned, which, along with the witching hour, are my absolute favorite books of Anne Rice. Should have known too as soon as I saw a picture of supposed Rowan, who looks more like she should have played Deidre. WHY CAN THEY NEVER DO JUSTICE TO AMAZING BOOKS??? 😭😭😭😭

I was also confused by what they were doing with the timeline and the family tree. Like, she is supposed to be the 13th witch (or something. It's been a long time since I've read it, so some details are fuzzy) and so by the time they get to Stella, how many more witches are they gonna add to get to Rowan.. looks like they are not going to follow ANY of the plot lines in the books and just do whatever the frak they want.

There's whining and complaining because a show is not exactly how the reader imagined it in their head, and then there is recognizing that something is objectively terrible, takes a DUMP on the source material, with no intention of retaining the soul of what made it great in the first place. If not, I invite you to do so (because it's awesome) but also because once you do so I really believe you will be able to discern the difference in quality. They are like night and day in that regard. The biggest problem I have with Mayfair is not that I think it's a crap show. I can just choose not to watch a crap show. I like the books a lot but it's not like, my religion or anything. My main issue with Mayfair is that it is tied to Vampire by AMC's hope (and title card) for their "Immortal Universe".
