    Hi David. Here is my story. 25 years on my Takamine and I woke up one day and thought time for a new guitar. Nothing wrong with the Takamine. A very fine guitar. But, I thought I would treat myself. Been a long time. I looked at the Gibsons, Taylors, Guild, and all the other usual suspects. Then I stumbled upon the Yamaha. Played it and thought oh my goodness this is a beautiful guitar. How much? Half the price of the others. No brainer so I bought one. An absolute joy to play both in tonal quality, resonance, and that neck. Love everything about it. Oh yes, and its understated looks are real class also. Perhaps the Takamine will not see the light of day for a wee while.

      Takamine?! Ugh! What a garbage guitar! Nothing personal but after owning 2 of them I can confidently call them absolute JUNK! I’ll put up ANY Yamaha acoustic guitar against ANYTHING Takamine has EVER manufactured! Sorry if I offend you. That’s not my intent! I just don’t like them. And they certainly could never hold a candle to any Yamaha guitar ever that’s for damn sure!

      I can’t frikkin wait for mine to arrive! Ordered it yesterday! So, excited! My Dad owned and played an original, late 60’s, red label, FG-180 for 40 years before he was forced to retire it because the fretboard was so badly pitted from playing and gigging with it! I still have it packed away to this day.

    I have an FGX5. It sounds amazing. When I got it, I fell in love.. However, when I plugged it in, I found it to be unplayable because of the noise made by my fingers brushing the fake woodgrain pick guard. I also hated the feel of the material. I have sensory sensitivity from being on the autism spectrum. So it sat under my bed and I continued to play my beloved FG-441s. This may not bother most people, but it bothered me.
    Then I read online that the woodgrain is actually a sticker over a regular old black pick guard in most cases. I warmed it up with a hair dryer and worked my thumb in between the sticker and the pick guard and peeled. It came right off. This was on Christmas Day. It was like getting a new guitar. Now I can't stop playing it. Thanks for the video.

    They are great guitars! Yamaha has a line of guitars above the red label called the custom series. They are truly custom shop guitars. If you ever get to play one, you will know what I mean. I bought the LS custom 3 years ago from Sweetwater and it is the best guitar that I have ever played. Everyone that plays it, wants to buy it from me. Even diehard Martin people, love my Yamaha. 👍

You really have me thinking about these Yamaha guitars, as I mentioned in the 000 video. Until you released that video, I didn't even know Yamaha were building these in Japan anymore. I thought they were all Korea or China. I have had a lot of respect for Japan's ability to produce quality guitars, so I very much appreciate you waking me back up. Keep em comin, brother man. I truly used to think if it didn't come from a U.S. builder the quality didn't exist. However, every Japanese guitar I've ever had has been quite impressive. In this case you truly get more than you paid for. Don't get me wrong. I Love Martin's, Gibson's, and Taylor's. However, Yamaha red labels are incredible. Apple's to Apple's. I'll take the Yamaha.

    Hi David ... I saw that demo model a while back on the Sweetwater site and was wondering how it stacks up with how they described it. If I am recalling correctly they listed some minor scratches that didn't show well in the photos and maybe some minor delamination around the neck area. I could be wrong but anyway are you satisfied that it was described properly and meets your expectations? To be honest I was a little leery to pull the trigger on a demo but if you're happy I won't let it give me pause in the future ... at least with Sweetwater. I know they presently have 4 FG3's available but I'm trying to hold out for the FG5. Thanks for the video.

    • @davidmurphey9514
      @davidmurphey9514  Год назад +3

      I was skeptical however Sweetwater did describe it accurately. In fact they over stated these areas. There were light pick scratches that are there but are just unnoticeable unless you subject it to certain changes of light. Which I know Sweetwater actually does. The delamination was also over stated on the neck as well. It actually exceeded my expectations. It sounds great.
      If I may offer a piece of advice. Buy the guitar you want. Not what's there. If the FG5 is what you want then get it. Also don't wait reserve one. Unless you're constantly looking every day you might miss an opportunity. These go quickly when they come in. It's been that way since they came out. Before the guitar is sent they will send quite a few pictures to you. I'm a Sweetwater fan because their customer service and process is better than anyone's. I've bought several guitars from them and I have never been disappointed. I hope this helps. Thank you for writing to me and for watching. Good luck and have a happy Thanksgiving.

    I wonder if you have the FG5 that was sent to me and received shipping damage from FedEx on the way here. Damage was at the nut to neck area on down to around 2nd fret. Damage was thin crack like in finish on top side of neck as you hold it and delamination on bottom side. In the case, you could see and feel the indentations of the G B E tuners in the padding/linning. Needless to say both me and my Sweetwater sales guy were heartbroken as there were no others to replace it with as they are always sold out like you said in video. I returned for refund and maybe they had a luthier repair and then resold?

    • @davidmurphey9514
      @davidmurphey9514  Год назад

      I'm terribly sorry about the damage to the guitar during shipping. I worry about that every single time I order something of value online. Sweetwater's shipping and packaging methods are second to none. Still freight company employees are not what they should be sometimes. I know there is restitution paid for such negligence. If Sweetwater can make the repairs they do so and offer a discount. Sounds like to me these might have been something that was within there ability but who can actually say for certain. In that case the instrument is still sold with full warranty backing. Things such as cracked bone nuts and delamination is easily repaired. My demo had insignificant issues, carried full warranty and a significant discount to compensate. I'm sorry again. I hope you find another guitar soon that you want. Or get on the waiting list for another FG5. It is definitely worth it in my opinion. Thank for sharing and for watching my video. Have a great day.
