Love your channel! You have a comfortable esthetic and elegant taste. Your humor is on point. Thank you for sharing your journey with us! Can't wait to see what you will do for the Christmas season....that house deserves an elegant Christmas!
The new windows look more elegant as the framework is lighter than the old upvc ones, it's an excellent idea. Now you just have to repaint the entire house but yeah! more videos to come
Sorry to repeat myself, but I find it such a pleasure to watch two young guys restore a house to its original glory 👌👌👌 The windows are stunning and the before & after shot of the front of the house is really amazing. Keep up the good work 😅 (I’ve written similar comment on a previous video, apologies I tend to waffle) x
I had wooden sash windows fitted about a year ago. I smile everyday when I look at them inside or out. They bring me so much pleasure. I wish You as much joy from your beautiful windows.
I applaud what your are doing! My background is in heritage conservation, and we did the same with our own first house -- we spent weeks reglazing, rebuilding, and remaking our wood sash windows, including having wood storm windows made (we're in Canada). My husband visited our first house recently, and reports that the windows still look great and are holding up well after over 30 years! Kudos to you Ash!!
Gorgeous windows! I love seeing heritage homes lovingly restored. Too often they are knocked down for absolutely no good reason and it breaks my heart!
How lovely you’ve reinstated wooden sashes, it always broke my heart to see them removed and it makes perfect sense they fit the window casing better and let in more light - guys back then knew a thing or three about design and light. I remember watching my father try to re-sash cord and re-balance ours, so they didn’t slam back down (years ago) - took him a while 😂 .... they’re so much easier to clean yourself too as you can sit outside on the sill and pull the top window down to your legs and reach all the outside bits reasonably safely as you’re wedged in by the window I do hope you sold your uPVC ones on though
Just when I think your house can’t get any more amazing you do another wonderful thing to it. Your home just exudes happiness. I think homes have an energy in them created by the people living in them. Your home sings.
Well it does help if you can afford to right off thousands of pounds they wasted on the upvc. Who has that ? We can all make good choices if we have that kind of money.
They appear to be financially wealthy. I think your point is they paid for windows when they first moved in and now they are buying more new windows again which are more in character with the house and you think they are very wasteful by doing that. I take your point completely. I couldn’t afford to do that either. I live in a council flat and have a very limited budget. However human nature seems to be the more money we have the more we spend. Someone living in a third world country would probably think I am so wasteful because I bought a new quilt cover when I was fed up with the one I had. It still had a lot of wear left in it. I gave it to a charity shop. Maybe the boys will sell the windows they take out or give away free for someone else to use. I love their house and how they have brought it back to the original features. Who knows maybe they give thousands of pounds to charity while others gamble their wealth away at a casino.
I lived in a 1929 building for a long time in Atlanta, Ga USA. I had the original windows that were falling apart. I had my restored because I couldn’t find a company that made the wooden windows. I love that you were able to find a company in your area that could replicate the original ones! I’m excited to see what you do next!
Oh I just wanted to say how refreshing to see someone truly value the need to retain timber windows for historical accuracy. You can still have them made, as you mentioned, up to current heat retention standards. I don't get people ripping them out to replace with plastic or steel framed. Yes it's probably expensive but if I had to save up to have one window done very three months as opposed to a house full of plastic I'd definitely choose that. Bloody well done Ash and partner! There really is no comparison.
Thank you so much! Unfortunately a lot of people see the price difference with wood vs UPVC and choose the cheaper. In my opinion there is no comparison!
What a triumph! I cannot congratulate you enough on the superb restoration of your windows. This is serious good work and not just for you, but for future generations who will live in your house as well. Your new sash windows are seriously beautiful and instead of fighting against your Victorian house you are embracing it, showing that you love it, and returning it to its original beauty. This is an exercise in positivity, which is personally rewarding both for you and the house. 👍👍👍👍
I completely agree with you, wooden sash windows are beautiful. Modern upvc replacements just seem to have so much more framework surrounding the actual sashes. Beechhall certainly made an excellent job of them.
Absolutely love the wooden windows you have had done, we live in a Georgian grade II listed villa and we had all our traditional wooden windows restored with new ropes, brushes, weights and brass hardware .. unfortunately not allowed double glazing but the ripples in the glass of the old windows is truly beautiful, love the ceiling roses as we only have two original broken ones but we do have the same mirror over the mantle.. Also loving the bold colours you have chose on the walls they look amazing where we have decorated in antique cream .. its so interesting watching a period home being restored so well 🙂
I love that dog catching some sunny rays out there while the windows are getting installed. Yes, it is exciting to be getting new windows installed, not only do they make the place look better but they will help keep utility bills down by saving energy. Looks like you hired some real pros to do the work, their workshop seems to have the latest tools to get the job done right!
I love your wooden sash windows! I once had a Victorian cottage with wooden sashes that I restored, with my partner, I so loved them but they were only single glazed so not energy efficient. Wonderful to see original features being restored 🤗
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. We live in California and have a couple of homes that were built in the 1890s. Our windows are in a sad state. It was fascinating seeing the whole restoration process. To answer your question, I'm a bit of a purist. If one is doing a restoration project, it includes everything. Even the windows.
Beautiful!!! So many renovations cut costs by installing cheaper versions of the original features , you're doing a brilliant job of updating and improving but still honoring the age of your home. Well done!!!
Brilliant, well done. You have every reason to be excited as fitting the correct windows makes all the difference and, in your case, the finishing touch. Gorgeous house. I did the same on 2 of my previous homes and it transformed the look ……. especially as one of them had 1970”s aluminium and slatted louvres 😫
This is such a great video, Ash. So much more than the usual before and after, we get the planning, the building and the installing too. Fantastic content. Keep it coming. 🎉🎉
Hi Ash, Your windows look amazing. Great move changing the old windows over. I live by a saying, “you will always regret your compromises, but you will never regret your extravagance’! 👌
Beautiful windows that will last for years, they are probably better quality now than the originals. I always look forward to your videos, thank you for sharing.
Hi just came at your vlog liked what I seen so far and have subscribed. Will enjoy catching up on your past videos and looking forward to all the new ones. 😊
the new windows are very lovely and it's wonderful you are restoring the house faithfully with the right materials! were you able to sell the pvc windows so that someone else can use them? it would be a shame - and not very sustainable - to just trash them?
Guys, would love to get an idea of cost. Yes, these joiners do a great job. The windows they tailor-make are amazing. I bought an old pile (a Georgian grade 2 listed) townhouse in Taunton). It was a basket-case & that was how I was able to buy it cheap. Took a lot of funds & a year & half of sweat & toil (outside our regular jobs) to restore it. We would’ve loved to replace the 10 front windows with bespoke wooden sash ones as you have. However, I was quoted £4k per window. Yes, £40k would’ve done it!! Might be able to do it sometime in the future. In the event we bought some second/hand frames & glass & dismantled & rebuilt each window ourselves! And, we’re not joiners. Actually, the end-result is we have wind-proof & functional windows now & are proud of our achievement. Unfortunately, like many aspects of building costs today, the price was just prohibitive for us & we had to roll up our sleeves & just renovate them as best we could. It’s surprising what you can do if you just have no alternative!
They look absolutely beautiful, you have done a amazing job bringing this Victorian house back to life. Well done. Just out of curiosity, how much did the timber sash windows cost?
Absolutely love your new sash windows but wondered why you have a vertical section in most (to make four panes of glass per window) but not in the bay window? Is it because the three bay windows are not as wide?
Hi Ash. Such lovely windows! Your house is truly stunning. I know everyhting is bespoke, but how much did you pay per window ? If you don't mind sharing. I am also renovating my house in south London.
Ah they do look lush. Just out of curiosity - what did you do with the upvc windows? I’m restoring a Victorian Terrace in the north east but will come all the way down to London if you’ll part with them for a bargin 😂❤
great look - great quality - when you sell the house let`s hope you will find buyers ready to spend the extra money on the quality you have "invested" in - if not - it has all been for your own enjoyment and not your wallet.
