Wow! Didn't know about that (regarding the wr250r)! I'm glad your bike started!
I own a Yamaha wr250r (2013) and that hasn't happen to me - yet. I've ridden in 90°F (32°C), high humidity heat in the summer, left my vehicle out in 6°F (-14°C) degree cold for a week or two in the winter, it doesn't matter, i put the key in the ignition, press "start" (a few times in the winter), the bike comes to life like a champ! I've never been stranded.
I mainly commute to and from work (about 15 mi/24 km each way) . No serious dirt trails as of yet (New York), been in gridlock traffic. Driven bike at top speeds (88 mph/141 kph, not accounting speedo error) for miles on the highways. From my experience, overall, the wr250r is a very reliable motorcycle.

I bought my 2012 WRR used at the end of March of this year (2020). I've ridden the heck out of it, putting 10,000 miles on over the summer (I bought it with just under 9K miles on the odometer). In the height of summer, in 95 degrees F temperatures, my bike suddenly wouldn't start. or would run really rough with very little power. My riding friends thought it was "vapor lock" issues with my new IMS 4.7 gallon tank. The bike ran fine after it cooled off. It's been mostly cooler and I've had no problems...until the bike stopped dead 3 days ago. No pump sound when I turn on the ignition. If I had known the symptoms indicated fuel pump issues, I would have bought a replacement months ago. As it is, I now have one on order from California Cycleworks (part # FP-WR, $135).

@leadermocomoco Thank you for the information on the impeller. I replaced the pump and the bike is running perfectly again. No recall here yet, although there have been MANY failures. Hopefully nobody gets hurt (or worse) when there pump quits in heavy traffic.

Having the same problem with my bike. This is the exact situation. Will look into a fix for the situation. Would be nice if Yamaha fixes this though.

@leadermocomoco HI, just meant that there have been many fuel pump problems here in the U.S. Other than that the bike seems very reliable.

My girlfriend has a WR 250 F , 2008 in Germany. Now she has 12185 km on it , and the same happend to the bike. In heat, the bike doesent start. In the shadow or evening, the engine runs. Today I phoned a Yamaha dealer and he told me, that there is a recall. Tomorrow he will call me to tell me more.

WR250X ‘08 with 12,500kms on it in southern Ontario Canada. No issues until this weekend when there was a humidex temp of 42*C outside… hot as F.
Anyway, riding with the young ones on their PW50’s going pretty slow with a few stops and waiting… started running like shit and stalling out. Then I couldn’t get it started and notice right away no fuel pump sound.
Had to walk it home, neared death. Let it sit for a day thinking it was screwed, but saw this video, and it fired up just fine today.
So is my fuel pump about to crap out on me and I need a new one, or was it just too hot???

I have a 2008 WR250R (manufactured 5/08) with pipe and programmer. I run the living crap out of it and it gets well over 100 F here in the summer. Thankfully this has not happened with mine yet but if it does I know will know whats up! Thanks!

Mine does the same thing. Why does it have to cool down before the pump works again? Do i need a new pump or is there something else i can do to fix this?

I'm currently looking into getting a used 08 WR250R, and I've just recently learned about this pump issue. So I'm curious, how much is it for a new pump, and what pump did you get?
Also, do you know if the 09 model is a more reliable choice?

Yamaha does not sell just the pump by itself. You have to purchase the entire assembly. $365 (as of 10/2020)! I bought a fuel pump (model FP-WR) from California Cycleworks for $135 (free shipping). There's many videos on RUclips to show how to disassemble the fuel pump assembly and replace the fuel pump. The WR250R is largely unchanged from 2008 to present (2020).

Any problems with it loosing power? I got a 2011 model with only 1700 miles on it. Was riding last night and it just lost power. Went home and it finally lost all power. No throttle at all just dies. It's got a high idle when it just sitting there.

I don't know this to be fact, but if you are using ethanol fuel, i suspect it might be the culprit.

@@You-Toober ended being way to much oil in it. Original owner stripped out oil plug and instead of finding a way to get it out he just kept adding oil. It had a gallon of oil in it lol.
