No one ever makes it past the musical break where David starts dancing, it’s impossible to not laugh! The energy and joy onstage is unbeatable.

i saw the funniest comment about David Byrne somebody said David Byrne is a pioneer of the “She let me hit it cause I’m goofy” style" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Believe it or not, I talked my dad into renting this video on VHS. Talking Heads and David Byrne were one of the more influential bands in moving from punk to new wave. The suit became an icon for David Byrne who had the suit made to create an interesting visual effect on stage, but nobody saw it as a practical style to copy. I still listen to David Byrne. Love his music and appreciate his knowledgeable and eclectic experiments in other mediums. He remains a true renaissance man after 40 years.

So Millennial, watch the whole movie "Stop Making Sense" before you make your short sided comments. This is 'Talking Heads' at their height of success and there are not much better in any generation than these folks. Also, 'Stop Making Sense' is the best concert movie ever made IMHO; and 'Kids Are Alright' is my number two.

The big screen you’re using looks wonderful!
I took my 28 year old daughter who had never seen this film to see the IMAX Re-release this month of it in movie theaters, and she loved every minute of it. I myself hadn’t seen it for years. So much fun!
I was lucky enough to have seen Talking Heads on this very same tour when they came to Berkeley and I’ll never forget the experience. I was on my feet dancing for the entire show as was everyone else.

You may ask yourself, why such a large suit?
And you may ask yourself, why not.. take it in a little?

    • @AretaicGames
      @AretaicGames 3 месяца назад

Take it in? It was specially engineered to have that shoulder-span. It's not a costume: it's sculpture!
It could also be a parody - or the zenith? - of the fashion of the '80s, which leaned heavily into shoulder pads of increasingly bizarre widths.

  • @john-stringham

David Byrne was kinda known for the two-sizes-too-large suits.

Open Culture: Byrne has always been willing discuss its origins, which he traces back to a trip to Japan. There, as he put it to Entertainment Weekly in 2012, he’d “seen a lot of traditional Japanese theater, and I realized that yes, that kind of front-facing outline, a suit, a businessman’s suit, looked like one of those things, a rectangle with just a head on top.”

Love talking heads. I used to work for Live Nation and after the Sublime concert was over and the lights went on the overhead music was the Talking Heads Psycho killer and everybody was singing it while they were exiting the amphitheater it was a very surreal experience it was awesome

Little trivia: Back in the 80's Byrne oversized suit kinda became a trend. My dad told me that for a time, it was impossible to go to a party without at least one guy showing with an oversized suit doing Byrne's shaking dance, to the point people started to get annoyed by it.

Lol! This was my band. Its interesting that you compared B52’s to Talking Heads!! They were both breakouts in the late 70’s & very much in same vein.
And yessss, it’s totally me… all Im gonna say!

I never got to attend one of their concerts I did see a cover band that did their music and I took my son to it and he really enjoyed it. Loved their stuff and the 80s they were so David burn is so different and David burn is really a genius he has accomplished a lot if you look him up. Tata Broadway show going for a while I don't know if it's still playing I'm on the Western side of the country. I did go see this movie in the theater when it came out this is great music to clean the house to

Check out Laurie Anderson “Home of the Brave” concert; same era, same genre, and more out there, more avant-garde than Talking Heads. Exceedingly musical & thoughtful abstractions. Went to the show, second row, electric violin in my face…

Don't laugh at the Big Suit!?!
Just kidding. Years ago I saw a video of a "Stop Making Sense" concert David Byren performed entirely in the Big Suit. I've looked, but can't find that performance anywhere now. Sad.

Always thought this band was strange but in a good way. Believe their two biggest hits were "Burning Down the House" and "Letting the Days Go By" both were used late as sitcom theme songs. Sometimes we just needed something different. That was the beauty of music in the 80s and 90s. Then the Music industry went bizerk and if 1 band had a hit they have 5 other bands trying to copy them. Sad office tone deaf bourocrates didn't understand it was a variety we couldn't get enough of. Didn't get to go to as many concerts as I would of liked. In the 90s-2000s Karaoke was king. In a small bar in Vista California. I was pleasantly surprised (after being irritated that the Karaoke show had been cut short) by a Coasters concert. Who I'd been listening to on 45s as a young teenager. Every song they did I knew. Had a blast joking around with the guys in the group between sets. Guess they couldn't get over a white guy in his 20s being a huge fan of their hits from the 50s and 60s . Man what a pleasure it was seeing those guys live. They told me they were enjoying me laugh and singing the songs right on time with them just as much. Music is the great unifirer in my book 😂😂😂😂😂
