Great video brother love my 2002 vk45de in my q45. Most people dont no this motor was used in the Skyline racecar for years in japan solid motor titanium valves on the 2002.
Nice. That sport button was magical for how drastically it changed the ride & handling. Add the heated & cooled front seats plus the reclining rear seats... 👌
@@30YearOldBunta well, if you have 2 knobs beside the shifter, your front seats are just heated. If you have a dial and 3-way switch on the seat itself, the seat will be heated/cooled.
I'm curious if you know why the throttle body on the 03-04 engine only opens manually about about 10-15%, and what might be there purpose behind the dual action in the first place. Any ideas?
As much as the throttle body has the cables, it's still an electronic throttle body. The manual opening is only there as a fail-safe. Under normal operation, the throttle cables work the same way as the wires in a true Drive-by-wire system. That is, all they do is communicate to the throttle body how much extra air it should allow into the engine, using the ECU as the middleman/facilitator.
I don't have the exact number, but the whole point of the flaps opening is to allow flow efficiency. That is advantageous at high speeds and idle conditions. Maybe if you can, disable the system and then do an aggressive run on the highway. Come back and reconnect it and repeat the experiment to see if you can perceive the difference.
I'm grave digging vids here, but in case it helps, the Mercedes vacuum valves for diaphragms have three ports like yours here, the top one is usually exhaust - so the actuated diaphragm can return to rest position. I notice Nissan return the tube to the intake, but Benz usually just have a small gauze filter on it because they're run by a vacuum pump, and aren't metered air. They're PWM run and monitored by the ecu in the Benz stuff.
Gravedigging is allowed, actually encouraged, in our world. There's not much excitement in the world of intake manifold internals, hehe. Do you know if the Benz system has a vacuum tank as well? Some time back I made a video on the VIAS system specifically, going into detail as to what happened at what RPM; and even walked the camera all along the tubes. It never quite saw the light of day, but I think I will have to find it, polish it and upload it...for the sake of the handful of my viewers who enjoy the in-depth content, I owe it to them.
@@EdBwoy Give the people what they want, haha. Some of the vehicles run a small vacuum distribution tank to the solenoids, like the om651 engine with vacuum pump. Benzes also love running vacuum pumps on some petrol engines because they're weird like that.
It wasn't a swap in that sense. I was using the block/intake combination that is used in the 06+ m45. And its difficult to compare because as much as the 06+ and -06 m45 had close to the same numbers on paper, they had different components such as ECU and trans electronics as well as diff ratios. My guess is that the new manifold will definitely pull harder at lower RPM while the older one might be better at the top.
Whaddup Ed. Ahhhhh... I see your're having a discussion on intakes good deal. Can't wait until i get this swap done. Good vid. Buy any chance you know of any one who has an upper and lower I.M "version 2" 06-08 for sale. Man the design on version 2 is so much better. I did a e39 to e34 manifold swap on my bimmer wagon. Runner design make a difference.
Yeah, one of my earlier videos when I started to realize some people were interested in more technical info on these engines. I'll redo them, now that I have better equipment and have learned a little more about videography. Have you checked eBay or junkyards (car-part.com) for the parts?
I got a short ram CAI intake on my FX by RActive. You think I need a spacer. Reason I'm asking when I accelerate on inclined onramp to the hwy sometimes it seems like my car wants to upshift to the next gear or dips in power a tad bit. Have you ever had that issue with or without CAI
I once had a well made cold air intake. I liked the sound it made, but for performance nothing beats the stock intake. Try reinstalling the factory system to see if the problems go away.
Wondering if yo have or you know where I can get an 08 vk45de upper intake manifold. As I was reassembling it, I broke the port where one of the fuel rail bolt is mounted and don’t want the fuel rail to get out of place :( Literally it was the last bolt that I had to put. Thanks!
I have this same engine in my 2003 INFINITI FX45. Vk45de 4.5l V8. But, I dont feel like my car has the V8 power. Will a new intake manifold give me more horsepower ?
I got 03 m45 that has the p1136 code so i plan on taking the solenoid out and cleaning it or might just buy a new solenoid. If the solenoid housing isn't leaking do you think I shouldn't touch it then?
Yo I'm hoping you see this and can help me out but do you know a site that sells the variable control timing solenoid gasket. It has the 8 holes i can't find anything. It only shows up stuff for the g35 and 350z v6 motors but none for the v8.
EdBwoy really? I read forums that you don't use rtv because it can get into the valleys and clog stuff up. But ok and where exactly is the vct on this engine? I have an 03m45 with p1136 on passenger side
Thank you Sam. There is a new project coming up, and I intend to go back and go over both engines in better detail. This time I'll have them side by side
+Jonathan Rodriguez Thank you. What year is your car? In 2008, just for the tech and premium packages, it cost an additional $10k or so. Crazy to think what value you can get these days, considering not too many cars have the same tech for the price and reliability of an M45
Hi, is there any way you could give me the height, the width, and the depth of the '03 vk engine please.....I'm trying fit one in my Z. A million thanks!!!
Hello, I sure can. I'll aim to post something up by the end of the day tomorrow. I have to put a few things back together because right now the engines are in pieces.
Here are rough dimensions. Obviously the fitment varies since the engine isn't a perfect 6-sided block, 32" long end to end. - fan hydraulic hose to heater core hoses 26.5" long for the metal. - water pump shaft to back of crankshaft/bushing 28" wide. - farthest distance head to head 29.5" tall. - bottom of oil pan to top of intake
To help me remember in the future, let's try to keep our conversation replies under one comment. But I gotchu. As I said, I didn't know anyone had any interest for these intakes.

Do you know if the titan 5.6L throttle body is the same as the m45 throttle bodies? Could we use the throttle body spacer from the titan on a vk45de
Does this with the 03’ m45 vk45 with the original throttle body and fuel rails?
Are you asking if the new intake will fit on an 03 M45?
If so, then the answer is yes. But you still have to get around the throttle body deal
Just curious what the difference in performance is either secondary throttles open or shut,

Depending on your year/model, the water pump is a fully integrated unit.
What is the problem you're having?

It's leaking some hydraulic fluid at times it appears that it's holding fluid but other times there is a small leak it's not leaking any water though

Check the seals, the solenoid etc
Also can you check and see if they still got it before they crush it
That was almost a year ago. Their turnaround time is pretty fast.
What are you planning to spend on this intake?
Did you install the later intake and did you feel more torque in lower rpms or hp on mid-range or top end?
