It's part of a greater overarching issue of sociopolitical ideologies forcing an idea of conformity and needing to "other" people to function as we have for hundreds of years. The day you stop caring to conform (or if you conveniently are conforming naturally than stop caring about OTHERS conforming) is the day you will see the world open up and will be able to see the value in every individual person and their unique experiences.
Our differences should be celebrated. Not used as fuel to stoke the flames of hatred and bigotry.
I think there's always been a sect of shitheads out there who we can all point and laugh at, but while I sit on Otz's side of the fence, I grew up watching those "non-normals" who are pretty explicitly mentioned in this conversations push dogmatic behavior and claims that don't align with reality. When you cast everyone with criticism to your side of the aisle as conformity pushers or bigots or whatever buzzwords you want to alienate via, you just create a larger class of people who want you gone.
If we are a society that never accepts anything out of norm, we are society that never changes. And such societies notoriously will die out eventually, because change is good.

Everyone deserves a basic recognition that they are a person with their own agency who gets to make their own decisions, especially ones that don't hurt anyone else. We are all just people and there are much bigger fish to fry in the list of "controversies of humanity" than people loving the same gender or not feeling connected to the role that society gave them at birth.

My 6th grade English teacher would usually something like say "your normal isn't my normal" whenever he would see a kid getting picked on or even slightly mocked for something, and that has ever since stuck with me. Was a really cool guitar player too.
yeah, it is an important sentiment to echo, especially those whose minds are very malleable like children or teens. what everyone thinks is normal is different, there are only very vague and loose ideas that a majority will conform to. even then, what really is the benefit of hanging onto the idea that everyone needs to be normal, or that different needs to also mean bad? who does that really do anything positive for.

I'm all for your detailed answers and I agree that no one should be the judge of what's considered normal, but I wanted to cross the screen by the end and answer that person myself with "Yes, being trans is just as normal - or just as weird - as being cis." I'm so wary of this type of question, it's so tiring to deal with them.
