    Less grass, more PLANTS Hannah! Great, informative and very clear instructional video as always. My own garden is a jungle with just a path going through it because I love plants soooo much and have no time for grass but I am sure it will look fabulous next year no matter what you decide to do ... How about converting your shed into a tropical hut or building a tropical stream/waterfall/pond? Would love to see you do something like that.

  • @eveau1312

    Hi Hannah, this is awesome, thank you. You could pave your garden and expand the plant area at the back next to the shed in different levels which would look nice for displaying your plants. Or get a greenhouse then you can just put all the tender plants in there over winter😊

    Hi Hannah-Your colocasia's done so well. I agree, the Lawns not worth the trouble given the recurrent problems. I'm planning on getting rid of most of mine this year and using it for more borders. I imagine you must have considered the same. Good luck whatever you decide. I'm sure you'll make a great job of it. Cheers

    Watching your video you said The UK so that answered that question. So, most or all you took to overwinter were bulbs and when you replant in spring they will regrow to the size I saw today? That's pretty amazing. All your plants look great.

  • @JohnJones-wo1bc
    @JohnJones-wo1bc 4 года назад

    Please do not get rid of the lawn. Aerate and scarify now with a good feed ion Spring (with the odd bit of weed management). You don't need an 'obsessed' lawn, but a well maintained green lawn is the heart of an English garden. A bit of effort this month will pay off handsomely in Spring.

    • @TropicalPlantAddict
      @TropicalPlantAddict  4 года назад

      John Jones yes I did all that in spring then treated with beneficial nematodes to help get rid of the leatherjacket grubs. It didn’t work so I’m assuming they will be back every year to destroy my lawn 😞 I applied 5 boxes of grass seed this year but it just kept getting destroyed by the grubs. I’ll try aerating etc again

  • @nicoladavies2150
    @nicoladavies2150 4 года назад

    The Red Flash Caladium was probably more red than the one grown indoors because it was more stressed outside. I grow a lot of succulents that grow into beautiful pinks and oranges when stressed outside but it does them no harm.

    I've heard of overwintering caladiums in the soil... They can simply be left in the pot, even in room temperature but in a darker place, and in early spring repotted to a new soil mix. Do you rec such an overwintering method, Hannah? 🤔

    • @TropicalPlantAddict
      @TropicalPlantAddict  4 года назад

      Halina Kaczmarek yes you can although I tried that one year and it rotted, even though I didn’t water it. So I have been dry storing since then, plus takes up less room 💚🌿

      @@TropicalPlantAddict I have room but, TBH, I'm more terrified they will rot and die IF I dry store them! 🙈 And we don't have that yellow sulphur fungicide in my country... ☹ What could I use instead? 🤔

    • @TropicalPlantAddict
      @TropicalPlantAddict  4 года назад

      Halina Kaczmarek As long as they are dried out and stored in paper bags they shouldn’t rot… You could use cinnamon powder instead

    I’ve got a red banana and a colocasia Hawaiian punch and do you think I could overwinter them in a frost free garage until spring

    • @TropicalPlantAddict
      @TropicalPlantAddict  4 года назад

      I have heard of others over-wintering their red Abyssinian’s in a shed/garage but usually they cut back the leaves. Not sure about the colocasia, the leaves would most likely get damaged by the cold

    • @ben.3
      @ben.3 4 года назад

      Tropical Plant Addict ok thanks I’ll do that with the banana and I’ll bring the colocasia indoors. Also quick question have you ever thought about adding some agave to your garden?

    Amazing, as always 👍👍 I dug up the Esculenta the other day (as you
    Know). The small colocasia I bought from you a few weeks back, what is the best thing to do with it? It’s currently still planted out

    • @TropicalPlantAddict
      @TropicalPlantAddict  4 года назад +1

      Darren Burch It should be fine as they are Winter hardy… In a couple of weeks I’ll be chopping them back and just putting a thick layer of mulch over, but you could also dry store it like the esculenta 🌿

      @@TropicalPlantAddict thank you, cinnamon should be antifungal antibacterial and can dry out the cuts... Does these bulbs and also the corms of banana survive the drought of the winter monts? I have a little red musa like yours that lost the leaves im not sure it is still alive: it is potted, digging out of the pot and drying out the bulb is essential for this process of overwintering?

    • @TropicalPlantAddict
      @TropicalPlantAddict  4 года назад

      Marco Paganelli I do use cinnamon when I’m cutting plants to propagate.
      Regarding the over-wintering it depends on your climate and also personal preference. All my musa basjoos and other plants I mentioned etc are fine left in the ground over winter, I’ve had them a few years now 🌿
