Elle is clearly an alto. Everyone is bashing her voice but truth is, the songs are just not for an alto. They're for sopranos or someone with a large range. I don't blame the girl. She is a talented singer and this is a MIDDLE SCHOOL musical. You just can't compare it to a cast with professional actors and singers.
Not to bash on your comment but you could CLEARLY see Sopranos in the Ensemble, Sorrity girls, And kate. All better people able to hit the notes now theres obviously a reason for her being chosen altough her voice range couldnt hit the notes. So i agree but i can see some better options
Actually Elle's not a Soprano... She's a mezzo-soprano. So an alto who can sing high is best casted for Elle. Especially because Elle belts and Altos generally belt the best.
idk why everyone is bashing elle, she did an amazing job. People don't realize how hard it is to put yourself out there only to have your work bashed by others.
Emma Viole when you put yourself out here you are signing up for bashing you don’t get performing without criticism unless you are perfect which people rarely are
I just noticed that Emmet sang the regular lyrics "I've gotta be driven as hell" instead of the lyrics for the junior version ("I've gotta be driven to excel")
@@marcushopper9824 exactly! Without ranting too hard they really did Chip on my Shoulder dirty when it came to the Jr version. It's lost its original meaning. It's supposed to be about Emmets got a "chip on his shoulder" but he uses that to drive himself forward, he says multiple times how it sucked where he came from but he's driven to do better and prove that he's not where he came from. He wants to buy his mother a house and be successful by taking his bad experiences and letting them fuel his ambitions. The song is about his own experiences with his "chip on his shoulder" and how Elle needs to find her own if she wants to do the same for herself. Elles journey is that she proves shes more than just a typical dumb blonde and she's worth so much more, but she can't do that without something to truly drive her to do so. Emmet shows her how to do that by telling him his experiences and telling her she's gotta take her bad experiences (Warner breaking up with her and her being labeled a dumb blonde) and let that drive HER. In the song he says she's gotta sacrifice some things and struggle through it a bit, some is still in the Jr version but they cut out a few things still. They cut the part where Emmet throws away some of Elles luxury things to make room for her work, which I think is also metaphorical for her life and character arch too. At some point in the song she finally realizes this for herself and she embraces that shes got a chip on her shoulder, in her own words "this chip on my shoulder makes me smarter and bolder, no more whining or blaming I am reclaim my prize" it shows that she is also bettered and driven by her experiences. And ultimately her struggles are paying off just like Emmets story. In the junior version of it Emmet is basically just complaining about his past and never really says how it drives him to be better. He doesn't say anything about his ambitions and he doesn't enforce his belief that Elle needs a "chip on her shoulder" nearly as much as he should. Elle doesn't even say that she has her own chip now which is literally the point of the song. It's too easy for her, she doesn't have to remove some of her luxurys for work and she doesn't have the realization that she does in the original. It's a shell of it's former self and it really disappoints me as a fan of the show. The whole show is Missing some of the messages and relationships between characters but I think Chip on my shoulder is the worst affected. Also that line being changed doesn't make any sense and it's stupid. They remove the word "hell" in the same show that has the Bend and Snap as a concept in it... I have a suspicion it's also the reason the song was changed because he says hell a lot. But okay the adaptation doesn't make sense. The line is supposed to be "With the chance I've been given im gonna be driven as hell" But they changed it to "With the chance I've been given im gonna be driven to excel" In the original it's supposed to be an expression of how driven he is. He's driven as HELL he really wants it. Hes saying he's driven and "hell" is meant to be kinda like how much he's driven. In the new one it doesn't imply how driven he is and instead of saying how much driven he is be just says it again and says hes driven to do good. Imo it comes across as him saying "too Excel" is the amount of driven he is. Idk if that made much sense but it's just wrong. Also it an extra syllable which means you have to sing it differently. As someone who's middle school just finished Legally Blonde (I was Kate) I have to say that as much as I enjoyed the props/sets, I felt that these kids just didn't fit the characters. My school had an incredibly low budget, so out sets lacked, but our stars and ensembles weren't "just chosen" like it seems here. Of course, all these middle schoolers have talent, but I feel like a great set doesn't make for a great performance. Also, did they not have an ensemble?
When I was in middle school EONS ago, they wouldn't cast lower grade levels in lead roles. Even if all of the older troupe members were awful, a 7th grader was not allowed to be cast in a lead role. When I got into high school it was a similar but unspoken rule, and college was completely different. They may have had something like that going on here.
Oh my, they absolutely nailed it! Elle delivered a performance that was worthy of a standing ovation. It's a difficult role...most of the songs in the musical require dancing and movement...those are physical demands that tax the voice. The way she held the long note at the end of "I Feel Better" was astonishing.
At first when all the girls were singing in the windows l was like “ this could actually be good” then they came out and there were 50 more of them, I️ was like OHMIGO! Then the boys or whoever came to do the Courtney take it break and l was done
Molly McDade Ignore Micheal Duffy! You honestly did slay that note 😍 I played brooke windam in Legally Blonde a month ago and for legally blonde remix I sang one of the “ legally blonde “ high notes then Paulette sang it followed by Vivian and I had a HUGE vice crack 🤣 but seriously tho your so talented!
This was a really good production, except blocking and choreography was literally just like the Broadway production. Elle is okay, she just copies Laura Bell(from the MTV version on youtube)and her singing skills are meh. Also, Elle's playboy bunny costume is kinda inappropriate for a middle school production. The sets were really cool and the projection was a good idea.Overall, it was a good show, but directors should try to come up with their own stuff instead of copying the Broadway show.
Elle did REALLY well, great actress, and very good singing for a middle school production. I just cast as Paulette in my school’s production and I think was amazing. The entire cast did a great job. They are young, and they do so well!
well the parts that kate (nerdy girl) sings doesn’t showcase how good of a singer she is, it’s an easy part to sing so obviously she’s gonna sounds good. you could ask them to sing so much better and it ends up they are not able to
