Very informative for anyone's first use of this smoker I think. I also noticed the Chief Firewood under the smoker. I looked it up and seems to be decently priced. What size logs do you typically use on this smoker?

@GrillSergeant yes, it will be my first smoker. However, I can definitely hold off if Old Country is about to drop something new! I've priced out smokers on an affordable level without comprising quality and Old Country seems to be my answer. I found even Blue Smoke a tad pricey after adding shipping and a few add-ons. Mad Scientist seems very good as well for the money but throw in shipping and it just puts it at the price I'm not comfortable to pay for a backyard smoker. I would say experiment with some magnets to add an additional notch (closer to the firebox than the welded stops for the plate) next to that tuning plate that you said covers the firebox entrance.. I would want that plate to be more vertical, not flat. Using magnets (in my theory) would allow you to add a spot inside to turn that plate more vertical and about 1 inch to maybe 2.5 inches away from the firebox. In my mind that would keep the hot spot directly on the right and even out the temp across the rest of the cooking surface. Maybe it would work, maybe it wouldnt 🤷♂️ plate might even need modification for it to fit that way properly, dont know. Worth a shot, im sure Amazon has some magnets that would work for cheap
I have one ordered.. Do you know the distance between the thermometer port and the grill grate? Ordering tell-true and want to know if I need the 4” stem. Thanks

on that firebox handle mod it's odd that the G2 people put a handle on the air vent but not the latch to open the fire box
