Omg. Thank you so much. This was driving me nuts. Press and hold the back of the device to see orange light seemed to be the trick. Single press just goes to the Bluetooth pair screen but if it finds several BT devices nothing happens. Press and hold and it forces the pairing with the selected device.

Try unplugging your Chromecast from power and the TV, leave it unplugged for 30 seconds, plug it back in to power and TV and try again. Worked for me.

What if you don't have a light

Remove the batteries, hold down Home. Keep holding home while you re-insert the batteries. You should get a solid white light and then it will begin the pairing process. That is the only thing that worked for me.
