The size differences are so well done in that movie. Even when it's the hobbits and a dwarf standing next to each other in one picture, you can tell that they're hobbits and dwarves
That's due to casting. John Rhys-Davies is 6' 1" tall while the actors playing the hobbits are around 5' 6". When Gimli appears next to Aragorn or Legolas, Davies is usually kneeling.
they explained that; Dwarves are in the same size scale as Hobbits, they just cast tall actors to play them (Dwarves are 4.5 feet tall, Hobbits are 3.5 feet tall) - so you just cast a 6 foot 1 inch JRD to play Gimli against shorter actors as Hobbits. Of course they don't interact too much, but it made the Hobbit trilogy A LOT easier (all the Dwarves and Bilbo are the same size scale, and other than Gandalf there aren't human/elf sized people in it for long sections).

I loved The Hobbit both the book and the movies. When I watched The Hobbit movies I went into it without watching any trailers, spoilers, or anything and enjoyed it a lot. What Amazon is trying to do with the franchise doesn’t interest me in the slightest. Historically reboots are shown to have little to no success.
Your not wrong, me and my sister watched the hobbit and the first two of lotr over Christmas and lotr just hit different and better. I think it's because they didn't use as much cgi in lotr and the musical score is such more iconic.
