If the dog is too big to fit in a cage that can go at your feet and it isn’t a service dog it has to go under the plane

What airline did you fly with? What was the procedure for getting permission for your large dog? I was under the impression airlines didn't allow bigger than 20lbs and they had to fit under the seat.
