  • We continue the spooky theme with one of Roger Moore's favourite roles as a man who, after a car crash, has his life turned upside-down by a doppelgänger. Or maybe he's just losing his mind...
Directed by Basil Dearden, The Man Who Haunted Himself was criminally ignored on release but has rightly gained a cult following over the years, due in no small part to the fantastic central performance from Moore, who showed he had the acting chops for more than the suave gents he usually played.

Excellent film and excellent performance by the great Rog, dispelling the myth that he couldn't act.

I first saw this film in the early 80's in my late teens and I agree, I thought it was a fantastic off beat psychological thriller, really enjoyed it & it stayed with me for years. Then I saw it again on one of the freeview channels a couple of years ago thinking I would find it crap in 2019 but it blew me away again. A good movie will always be a good movie no matter how old. Can't believe no one has done a decent remake of this film but then maybe its untouchable.

Great review, this film has stayed with me for many years. I first watched it in the early nineties. I always wondered, would he have got back into the Lamborghini at the end. And from then on would he change, as they portray it as the two have now joined to be the best of both worlds.

Basil Dearden died in car collision at the same exact spot where he filmed it.
So he haunted himself, or identical situation.
    Great channel.

Perhaps it was Karma for making such a awful movie.

Well some liked the movie...it was very weird, his wife starred in Dracula 1958 and died same date 30 years later @@kazamshah4543

You could buy stiff detachable paper collars like Pell wore from Woolworths up to the 80's. Great to wear them back to front tacked to a black t-shirt along with a regular jacket and trousers as an inexpensive fancy dress outfit as a Vicar! Bring on the Naughty Nuns.

As if you covered this! Great job 😊
Also, he looks a bit like Cary Elwes with that moustache 😁

The only movie of his own that Roger Moore was very proud of, it was the only time that he really acted and not being his usual smooth debonair self

I saw it again last night after almost 40 years. Did the good Pelham arise the victor? Why reveal the doppelganger to his family? And what was the doctors analysis? I'm not sure about that.

I wonder if this had any inspiration for King when he wrote DARK SIDE?
