Snow Tracks - DIY Heater and Enclosed Cab BUDGET BUILD

- Adapt random tracks from a Can-Am to fit my Yamaha Rhino UTV.
Stuff I used in the video:
Lighted Whips(4' is what I used): amzn.to/3tGmAG0
Infrared Phone adapter Android: amzn.to/47AhPve
Infrared Phone adapter Iphone: amzn.to/48tunpN
Wiper Blade Manual universal: amzn.to/3NXMRGD
Bilge Air Pump Fan: amzn.to/3SgRf64
Clear Plastic window film: I used 5mil/5guage/.005" which is sufficient but I would ideally go thicker to around 10mil. The commercially made rear window I bought is around 10-15mil. A thick clear window used on things like Jeep soft tops/convertible windows is around 30mil. You can buy 10 mil at most fabric shops or here are thicker options: amzn.to/3vxc8AZ
OTHER VIDEOS I discuss/mentioned
Safe build: • Build a fireproof SAFE...
Garage door lights: • Lights on Underside of...
Heated $20 Jacket: • DIY Heated Jacket USB ...
Tire Sidewall repair: • Tire Sidewall PUNCTURE...
After Thoughts about the Video:
Doors: I would actually like shorter half doors. I feel too enclosed in the cab with both doors on. I like to stick my head out like a dog and enjoy the scenery/view what I'm driving over. The material I use is on the thinner side as well(just what I had laying around) so I would get slightly thicker material. I used 5mil/5guage/.005" which is sufficient but I would ideally go thicker to around 10mil. The commercially made rear window I bought is around 10-15mil. A thick clear window used on things like Jeep soft tops/convertible windows is around 30mil. You can buy 10 mil at most fabric shops or here are thicker options: amzn.to/3vxc8AZ
Heater: 1 issue is the humidity that is caused when you hit a snow drift and the snow melts on the radiator. This was easily remedied without a full enclosed cab. I had no overheat issues an the motor actually ran way cooler than it does in the summer.
Tracks: I had full intentions to 100% fabricate my own tracks. I have them 90% sketched and engineered. The frame work is the easy part and could likely be done sub $500 total in materials. The issue arrives when you wan to put rubber tracks on. Buying tracks sets you back around $600 per wheel! I had issues trying to find 3-4 identical old free snowmobiles to harvest them from. That's an entire can of works itself. So I set off to buy a cheap second hand set as new sets are going for nearly $7000. Every market is different and I kept loosing out on sub $1000 dollar deals on tracks. I ended up with these for $1500 after nearly a year of searching. That's less than my parts list to build them (around $2500-3000)

Well said! Spot on.
Hey Thanks. Always great to have like minded people watch me mess with my old junk.
I couldn’t say it any better.
Always love seeing the clips of you and Ginger hanging out and having fun. It's great to see a RUclipsr being a good influence and role model for young future pet owners. Thanks for the great content Moe!
Hey Thanks. She's a good sport.
You did an awexome job with the tracks and Ginger did an awesome job with the chicken!
Thanks!
Excellent!
You could make a little diverter tube to send some of the heat to clear the windshield so you could keep the doors closed when Ginger is with you.
After watching you for years I still get a bit of twinge when I see Ginger running circles around when you drive. Amazing pup.
She knows how these machines move and I am always aware where she's at. Not going to say she hasn't got a little closer than I would like a few times but you have to remember dogs see everything/action in slow motion and can react 5x faster than we could.
Yup. They sure do. We have slow eyes.
Stay well.
Stupid awesome mods man and I had to stop in the middle to send the video to the wife and kids to see Ginger leave that chicken patty alone until you got back! 😮😳🤯. Love everything about the heated track machine with bonus cool AND safety lighted whips! Drone footage is killer. Keep em coming Moe!
Thanks Eric! Thanks for watching me mess with my old junk.
Ginger has incredible discipline, she is such a good dog. Yoda would have consumed that chicken the second I turned my head.😂
You did a great job turning your Yamaha into a snow machine. You and Ginger are going to have many hours of fun with it.
I didn't mention she's been stealing food off the counter when I go out of the room... In her defense I didn't say not to take that particular item.
Looks so Cozy to drive around in at night in the snow! lol Ginger is to damn cute!
You men are gold on YT.
Ginger is more trustworthy than me. I would have ate it then blamed it on a marauding gang of gypsys. I sure do enjoy watching your channel. Your builds and fixes are astounding and why I watch, but your relationship with ginger is icing on the cake.
LOL. You're awesome.
0:20 Love your attitude Moe! You know you have the skill & talent to tackle & complete whatever your goal is!
You're too kind. Thanks for watching me play with my junk.
Moe, I’ve said it a hundred times already but you never cease to amaze me! My best friend is just like you, you guys can just do anything mechanically! Keep up the good work!
That's awesome. Thanks man
Brilliant mods. Especially the heater. That's a game changer for riding in the cold.
Heater was definitely a nice touch and I like it way better than the enclosed cab.
Having used GE appliances for over 50 years in our homes and rental properties, naturally, when I remodeled my kitchen about three years ago, I bought an entire new suite of GE appliances to replace my old ones, which were also GE and which had served me well for over twenty years. Unbelievably, I had trouble with each and every appliance that I bought. I said to myself, is this the same company that I've bought dozens of well-built, reliable, long-lasting appliances from over the last five decades? Well, no, it isn't. In 2016, GE sold its name, and its name only, to a Chinese company by the name of Haier. Just a word to the wise. They don't build them like they did in 1965. Or even 2015. Great project. Looks cool. Works great. How many MPG?
Very interesting. I been wanting a heater in my machine for winter. This is a cool idea.
The only issue is it isn't dry air. A few times I hit a big snowdrift and you could feel the moisture off the snow/radiator. Not a big deal unless the cab is fully closed and then it adds to the fog. You have the RZR if I recall. A lot of guys are using that bilge blower to just pull the heat off the engine between the seats.
What a cool build. Thanks for the upload
Thanks Man.
Tracks are too cool love how you adapt things to work I do it also made a awesome machine ginger is still the star of the show love your channel
Thanks Mike.
This reminds me of my dad. He does cool stuff like this and it always blows me away that people like you and he can think of things like McGiver. Awesome job 👌
You got the best well-behaved dog!
Great job!!!!
I do like those lights... More lights is never a bad idea, for a lot of reasons.... Very nice.
I get a kick out of auxiliary lights.
I did the tire fix on my scissor lift last month, worked well. It wasn't leaking but it had a big slit with a flap of rubber hanging on. I glued it, sanded it smooth, and then applied the patch over top like yours. I just received the 500-watt alternator kit from Rickey Stator to put on my 2007 Rhino(with 725mi) It looks really well made, I need more power. Great videos.
That's awesome. I'm pushing the limits of my alternator and probably need an upgrade. I noticed the voltage regulator was getting really hot when I was doing thermal imaging of the heater.
Such an under rated channel
Hey thanks
Good to see Ginger is having a blast and you as well..those tracks are off the chain .. looks like fun hope we don't get that much snow..lol..take care friend..👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Snow is one of those things that isn't fun unless you play in it. Otherwise it's just misery.
All leg drive is still a little better than the tracks. Nice job on this mod.
Yes it is.
Thank you for sharing, always a pleasure watch your project, I learn a lot 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Man. So nice of you
I knew you were going to feature the heated jacket in this one! 😉
Great build and a lot of fun. The outro reminded me of days as a kid sledding down the street next door and getting in that last run as it turned dark before going home to a warm house and my mom’s lentil soup. 👍
Your ingenuity is amazing.
Hey Thanks
Inspirational as always. Thx for sharing with us. God Bless.
Thanks Man.
Years ago Walmart sewing fabric department had clear plastic, two different thicknesses we used to cover our vanilla white, fabric dining chair seats to keep them looking nice. They still look good even though there's a few cracks. FYI for the future in case you decide to upgrade.
Looks like you are on track now . Cab will make it nice .
LOL...
Ginger is one amazing dog. Love seeing her in the vids! Great job making those tracks fit..you are going to have a blast with them. Those light whips are sweet and heater is a huge bonus. Great vid as always.
Thanks I've been wanting tracks forever. So much fun.
I forget when i 1st came across your videos but i watched the one where you turned am old dryer into a shop heater and did one myself. Works great and now i have a warm shed to where i can replace the wheel bearings on my 4 wheeler when they come in
Awesomeness 👍 👍
Rain X and Rain X anti fog also works good on plexiglass. I use it on my motorcycle helmet visor.
New product idea 💡 snow tracks for riding lawnmower rear wheels with 2 skis🎿 on the front. Then change gearing so it'll go 25mph.
I've been looking for a decent riding lawnmower. Then build a mini removable weather enclosure for it. So it looks like a mini tractor. Then make a cab heater by wrapping aluminum tubing around the exhast and either blowing air through. Or connecting to a car heater core, small 12v fan & adding anti freeze...So I can plow in winter & mow in the summer. Also try to change gearing. So it'll cruise along at 25 mph. For secondary emergency transportation in rain, cold.
Your talent and ingenuity keep me coming back for more. Another excellent job.
Thank you very much!
You sir, make some great videos with innovative ideas! Keep em coming!
Glad you like them!
All of your videos teach me, although I may never have a need for what you do. If a situation arises I at least know that it can be done and where to find it. You're leaving a legacy of good old-fashioned ingenuity for the common man. Thanks for sharing!
P.S. Because of your steel pipe socket trick I will know to never buy a socket that I don't have.
Hey thanks
Man you never cease to amaze me with your knowledge and ability to make just about anything..
And Ginger is an amazing fur baby..
Thank you for sharing yet another amazing adventure of yours..
Cheers
Wow, thank you!
I have a 2016 4010 mule I just installed Ice Crusher heater in. It was quite a job and required disassembly of whole front end to access everything. It works OK but if I had to do it again I would buy the 12 volt ceramic heater instead. My neighbor has a 2014 Teryx and I think the seats on it are the same as the Rhino. The sport UTV is a lot friendlier to accessorize and work in the dash/radiator area than the straight UTVs. My dog loves riding with me but he really likes my neighbor’s Teryx because it has bucket style seats!
I really like all of the different shots - drone, drive-over-the-camera, Ginger footage. Content - always interesting and informational. Also like how you always post links to whatever you buy or use in your vids too! Your channel rocks!
Much appreciated!
Love your projects! The way you figure out how to budget build things is the best!
Been watching you for years.
Awesome! Thank you!
Ginger listens better than a wife.😅😅
Nice job as always!👍
LOL
Living the dream
Thanks for watching.
First comment here, been watching for a bit. Glad to see Ginger feeling better ! Utah looks like an amazing place to ride. Went to Colorado last summer and headed to Marysvale Utah to Rocky Ridge to run the Paiute in August ! Can’t wait ! Thanks for some fun projects that are a blast to follow. Not hard to make something out of nothing when nothing is all you have 😎
Awesome! Thank you!
They key to a great RUclips channel is definitely a great co-host...and you sir, have the absolute best. Thanks for the video. I learned a lot!
great project & well done. wish i had some snow !
came for the project, stayed for the dog :-)
Thanks 👍
I might try those light whips on the delivery scooter.
Video reminded me of when Nissan tracked an Altima.
They definitely stand out. I noticed all my state snowplow trucks have them now on the blade tips. Definitely not going to miss that.
The heat is definitely a great idea, but having heat down by your feet would be a good idea.
Ginger is a cool dog, you could make a channel with videos of just her.
Yeah, heat down by my feet and a defrost.
Great job getting them to work for your vehicle. And the areal shot showed how steep that mountain is. Wow.
Hey Thanks.
Wow, amazing, one of your best videos yet! Great job, this was very educational and entertaining. Also sweetest dog ever
Thanks Man.
A clear see through shower curtain is another option for your back window and doors. It's more durable, transparent and super cheap.
That's so awesome!
Hey Thanks.
We used to do this on old gravel roads when snow hit with 2-wheel drives, then VW's and then Jeeps. Now we all have 4-wheel drives but build fires in the wood stoves at home and watch the snow fall because we're too geezerish to fool with it.Good for you but too many LONG days with steel tracks did me in. The thermal of Ginger was neat. Blessings 2 Yall!
Good old VW off-roading is always a fun time.
It was and old logging roads mostly. It's now a state park and the underwater part of a pumped storage project. Highways are no fun anymore and really never were except when the resident semi-wacko that started out living his 2nd childhood would pull us down it behind his Galaxy on a car hood. But those were a long time ago. @@sixtyfiveford
Amazing absolutely amazing!
Hey Thanks
Wow! Awesome vid! Always amazed at how talented you are at seemingly everything. I always learn so much watching your content. Thanks soooo much! This whole vid was great, and I especially liked the last part where you were out in the snow!!! Simply awesome!!!
Wow, thank you!
You and your dog are a team. Love your videos. :)
You never cease to amaze me
Thanks Man
Good job , creative,thank you
Hey Thanks.
DOUBLE WIPER! Inside and out. NO more fog.
Bigfoot will get a good laugh if he sees you out there with those whips lol
That looks like an absolute blast - love this content, thanks for sharing
It was!
Wow ! fantastic ,nice job .
Hey Thanks.
Another great video. Thanks.
Hey Thanks.
awesome mods! Ginger seems to like them as well (bonus!).
She's spent hours sitting in it in the driveway while I was working. Couldn't wait.
Just found your channel tonight. Great content. Also, you can use shaving cream on the inside of that window to keep it from fogging, so just wipe it on then just wipe it off
@5:31 almost looks like you have a crack in your lower control arm mount point for the knuckle. I've been wanting to do similar with one of the Ford YT16's, 4x6 with actually snow mobile tracks to put over the tires I think. Literally, just posted the memory on my FB from a few years back. Thinking will be more handy for muck in the cow patty clay fields for hauling meat, wood and maybe some other things. Thinking until I'm old, I won't need for plowing or snow throwing though seems luxurious and inspiring. Great group of builds.
Nice job
you definitely need a second vehicle to ride with you so in case you break down. Dont want to get stuck in that cold without a riding partner. First rule of off roading.....Love the tracks.
It's a well traveled area. This day I passed at least 6 others.
Awesome video! Keep up the awesome work!
Great ideas! I've used a very similar kind of sheet vinyl on a chicken coop windows, but I've found it to get brittle when it's real cold. May need to find some sheet plexiglass for next winter.
Nice ideas! Going to get that couch protector. It's clear whereas the 6mil plastic I put on my mini ex is not so clear and the plexiglass on the skid steer is not that clear. The doors will work great on both my mini ex and skid steer to weather in. The heat. 🤯 Who woulda thunk! Ya. Heaters are expensive add ons but inexpensive like you did it. Yes. Another idea I'll be using. I use my skid steer to clear snow and that gets friggin cold.
That looks fun as hell
So fun. I've wanted tracks forever.
Really enjoy this, 99% of people are stuck in a box and just dont understand how things work, especially when you cant just buy a new "whatever" How do you find time to film/edit/post videos? Good on ya buddy, new subscriber!
Glad you enjoyed it! Filming editing takes a ton of time but I enjoy it. It forces me to do projects I would likely push off.
1974 453, right now I got a chain slapping alittle need to figure out the tensioner, I just got it about a month ago , really good shape I love it 28” tires
Awesome, I love the 453 and the VA6. Not the biggest fan of the Corvette looking ones.
I noticed your Gadsden flag! I wrote a follow up comment in response to yours where I asked how you like Utah on your last video. I'm just curious what you thought. But don't worry, I'm not moving anytime soon, I recently got a job working as a technitian for a company with solid team who is developing an atomous EVTOL (electric vertical take-off & landing) aircraft that hopefully will see reality a several years into the future... of course, we will see.
Interesting read buddy. I followed the Moller Skycar for years. Guess they ran out of money. Does the team have a website or social channel to follow?
My comment was probably a little more harsh than I really feel. I thought about that later and sometimes I ramble/go off on a tangent. One of my friends of 20yrs is from Southern Cali and I like to give him crap all the time. The reality is businesses can't make it there and relocate. That puts tons of jobs here in Utah and that brings masses of people. Not really the peoples fault to go where the money and realistic cost of living is. I wish you the best and always enjoy like minded people no matter where they're from.
@@grampa_ahah Google Supernal. They are owned by hyundai.
@@sixtyfiveford Thanks sixty five, I feel the same way as you. And I don't even live there so don't worry!
👍👍👍 Love it. Thanks
Thanks!
Excellent!
....Or get a kei truck. Does everything the SxS can, plus drive on the freeway, heat, AC, doirs, stereo, dry, etc. And yes, you can add tracks too. :)
like the heater
cool ty
that doggy puppy has more self control than i do
i wouldve eat it and begged for more
Like the American Flag!!!!!!
Ginger the wonder dog in a disco mini tank……..only in 🇺🇸 America 👍🚀
Lol. It is like a disco
Thats pretty awesome!
At the Chinamart they usta have rolls of the plastic sheet way thicker than that .. They had the thin stuff also . Was had used it for super thick table cover , to keep from messin up our good table cloth . would make good thick window very clear to look through
Thanks for another informative video!
You bet!
'22:22'
Smartest dude on RUclips
Great video liked and subscribed!
Just wanted to let you know that my enclosed utv use to fog up and I found a low budget solution. I bought a duel fan that you can control the fan speed from amazon that clips onto hand holders or cup holders and really helps with condensation on the windshield.
Sick man I wanna put some tracks on my terra jet sometime maybe next winter
That's awesome. I have a 1981 453. What model Terra Jet do you have?
There is clear shower curtains that are pretty durable that work pretty well for windows.
Very nice toy 🛺 👍👍
You dont know what the hell you are doin. Great job. Thanks
Snow track work well by the looks, nice neat job on the heat. I wonder how the tracks would go in the mud
Supposedly they do well in mud and sand. I've never witnessed it first hand though.
Awesome mods Moe.
Hey Thanks.
Excellent. I wish I had your knowledge.
Thanks for watching. Just playing around with my junk.
Cool ending!
Hey Thanks.
clear shower curtains are pretty thick .
I seen they made a snow track kit $350 for a motorized bicycle. Comes with 26in rear wheel track & front fork ski but it doesn't work good unless you have a powerful 2 stroke engine like 6+ hp on the bike. If you used a beefed up 100cc 4 stroke kit. That put out around 6+ HP that'd probably be enough. Since it'd have good torque also. I seen an old video of one that work very good. But I think it was mainly because the bike engine didn't have enough power. It'd make for a fun cheap winter time toy & TY video. Much cheaper than snow tracks for a dirt bike.
I saw one of those the other day on local classifieds. Looked really cool.
@@sixtyfiveford If it worked good with a bigger engine. I think it'd be great for $350 since the attachment can be taken off fairly quickly & replaced with a wheel.
Totally unconnected question: I was just researching CO alarms and reading about things that produce CO in the home. That reminded me of your genius clothes dryer/space heater build. Do you have a CO alarm in your workshop? If so, have you tested it and do you trust it? What model? Thanks, Moe!
PS - Because of your clothes dryer video I've been thinking about converting a discarded electric dryer to a garage space heater because I'm already running several small electric heaters in the house and garage to keep the use of fuel oil as low as possible. I figure a clothes dryer might work better in (or vented to) the garage to heat up the space quickly and if I can modify the controls to have simply on/off and run it through a rheostatic controller maybe I can control the amount of heat and air coming out easily, turning it down when the garage is at a comfortable level. Thoughts?
PPS - I and so many others really appreciate your builds, as you are certainly aware. I also really like your creativity in working out solutions by thinking outside the box. That's what I appreciate the most - helping me to have a clearer, larger perspective of what's possible with mostly standard tools, scraps and imagination.
...You're up against super fog dog 😅
Yes, a loosing battle.
I thought you’d do some close Nieghbor hood testing of the trax but no you went all inn😂
I was hoping for 3 feet of snow to drive through.
I noticed in an older video you’re using a JIS screwdriver. I recently acquired a set of JIS screwdrivers and a set of driver bits and I’ve decided it’s probably time to just retire most of my Phillips tools as the JIS are far superior for any style of cross-slot screws.
