I had already commented on this but apparently all the upvotes are gone with the switch to Google+, and since I think it's important, I'll paste my old comment: Just to clear stuff up, This is NOT Herbie Hancock, not only many commenters have pointed out the inconsistencies, but i've got an original copy of this disc, and on the booklet you can read credits for every song, for clutch they are as follows: drums - sano yasuo bass - sase tadashi guitar - michishita kazuhiko piano - arimasa yukiyoshi trp. solo - hara tomonao sax. solo - honda masato Please upvote so the credit is given were due.
Sure, they can be wrong, but I am even more sceptical about this being Hancock, since I have no evidence towards it, all I see is something in the wiki, without citation. What's more likely? A simple mistake of including guitar when there is none, or a huge mistake of mistakenly giving credit to another band? And I really see no evidence towards the latter.
To be honest with all of you, I never liked soprano sax. But this solo is giving me goose bumps that are about to fall all over the Earth. The rage and transitions were just so outstanding that made me feel like dying for more. Brilliance, class, whatever word you would like to use to describe, this is it. I don't even have to talk about the Trumpet Solo and Bass. All people have ears to hearts to appreciate them, except 1.
Alot of the Jazz from the Seatbelts reminds me of Miles Davis. Especially perhaps his album "Seven Steps to Heaven". If you like this then I'd STRONGLY recommend it ;).
@WowzaBoyz jazz is anything but boring, it can be abstract, straightforward, structured, wild, fast, slow, relaxing, energetic, its one of the most versatile forms of music (atleast to me) im glad this song has made you a believer, welcome!
@22hka i recommend you "Bird and Diz" incredible album by parker and gillespie recorded in 1950. few names, beside charlie parker and dizzy gillespie, if you are interested in bebop: thelonius monk, art bakley, bud powell, max roach. enjoy! ;-)
Is there a compilation album of the best of the bebop jazz side of Cowboy Bebop? I think this is the best song and so I would like to purchase this with all the other mainly jazz songs with a little blues and funk thrown in.
I can't find any Herbie Hancock album, VSOP or otherwise, that has this tune on it, anywhere. Also, that definitely doesn't sound like Wayne on Soprano. Also, there was no guitar in the VSOP Quintet (which would've made it a sextet), and YES there's a guitar on this recording. It kinda sounds like Mike Stern. If this IS a HH tune, I wish someone would provide a source. Cause I've been looking for years and can't find it.
+Myron Green "During late 1970s and early 1980s, Hancock toured with his "V.S.O.P." quintet, which featured all the members of the 1960s Miles Davis quintet except Davis, who was replaced by trumpet giant Freddie Hubbard. There was constant speculation that one day Davis would reunite with his classic band, but he never did so. VSOP recorded several live albums in the late 1970s, including VSOP (1976), and VSOP: The Quintet (1977). One of his songs, "Clutch", which was recorded in studio in 1980, was featured on the 2001 anime movie Cowboy Bebop: The Movie and its soundtrack Future Blues." -www.last.fm/music/Herbie+Hancock/+wiki
I'm pretty sure this isn't Herbie Hancocks "Clutch". I could be wrong but there are a lot of differences between the one Herbie made and the one I heard here. Anyway great song, thanks for the upload.
I think all you'll need is a capo to get the job done, since the part for guitar really only has like, one or two phrases that actually have chords. The rest is basically passage and phrase punctuation. Now, if you want to actually do the lead part, you most likely WILL have to mess around with the tuning, as well as using the capo, to see what works best for you.
It's either Bop or Post-Bop, depending on who you ask. VSOP was definitely one of the most talented jazz groups of all time, comparable to Dizzy and Bird, or Miles Coltrane and Cannonball.
Adam Eve Three groups I would suggest are Canadian Hip-Hop/Jazz fusion Trio BADBADNOTGOOD, a New York trio with an amazing drummer called The Bad Plus and a group called The Robert Glasper Experiment. The Glasper crew also dabbles in Hip-Hop and Soul.
yo, this is very clearly not the VSOP quintet. There was no recording from VSOP in 1980 only 76 and 78 and there is no tune "clutch" on any of their albums. Correct please. Also, the A section is stolen from the turnaround on Jimmy Heath's "Big P". Still killin', but NOT VSOP. The pianist is clearly not herbie hancock.
Its actually the Herbie Hancock's V.S.O.P. from 1980. Kinda bummed and surprised when I found out it wasn't Yoko Kanno/Seatbelts, but then not surprised when you actually think about the difference in calibre between this and a lot of the other Seatbelts songs.

Well, that's what it reads on the box

Brandon Vu I can hear the guitar: During the bass solo, and at the end of the tune.
There is most definitely a guitar.
siraf7th you dont know for sure
"Tell me what you're doing here."
"Let's flip a coin. Heads, I tell ya. Tails, we go out on a date."
Cowboy Bebop is one of the many reasons why I will never stop loving Jazz.
"I love a woman who can kick my ass."

This song is incredible.
so is your mom
Dustin Driver It is. Its melody is partly taken from a Canonball Adderly tune.
@@DefenestrateYourself which tune dude? I would like to hear it
@@rocudaal "Big P" off of "What is This Thing Called Soul" Great album.
“I love the kind of woman that can kick my ass”
It doesn't get any better than this! ahhhh
The drummer is a beast
So is the bassist. What a monster band
His name is yasuo sano. famous professional drummer in Japan.
that's why they are the seatbelts; they jam so hard they have to strap themselves in to avoid injuring themselves
Alot of the Jazz from the Seatbelts reminds me of Miles Davis. Especially perhaps his album "Seven Steps to Heaven". If you like this then I'd STRONGLY recommend it ;).
I have to pause every so often to breath. Otherwise the awesome of this song just floods my mind.
Oh my god the sax in this song can kill.
that bass player is god mode
It's like watching someone on thrilling chase.
*_En Garde!!!_*
0:0 saxophone play(main melody repeat)
0:50 trumpet play(improvisation)
2:20 saxophone play(improvisation)
The 3rd one isn't a saxophone, it's a clarinet.
@@ProfesserLuigi Nope, not a clarinet---it's a soprano saxophone.
Wait, aren't instruments playing the main melody?
Sano Yasuo out here doin' the most
Easily my favorite non-vocal track on this entire OST.
I love me some classic jazz!
Timothy Humbane Bebop*
@@andrescasc bebop is a subgenre of jazz so he's technically not wrong.
What Great JAZZ man I love it!
When the track is so good everyone thinks it's Herbie Hancock VSOP
the opening lick of Kenny Garrett's "Third Quadrant" Is very similar to the lick in mm. 9-12 of the 16 bar head.
AHHHHHH me encanta esta rola!!!!!
amazing
WOO!! *swings and snaps*
It's improvised, mainly A natural minor but obviously there's a lot of tritone substitutions and stuff going on.
0:55-3:15
wow this is great! its exacly what i was thinking of. i need thoose notes!
nay, this is just jazz at it's finest!
fuckin sick! I dont how they have the energy to play a song after this one.
Jazz! jazz! jazz! ❤️
If cowboy bebop was jazz and samurai champloo was hip hop, what was terror in resonance?
I hear the influence of La Pasionaria by Michel Legrand here.
BEAST!!!!!

sick bassline

thats true. i used to think jazz wasa little boring, but now i think of it as a soundtrack of life
This is Japanese jazz at its finest

I'm guilty of doing this more than a few times... LOL
my god...the horn, the piano, the song its to much!!!
*Faints*

why's my pants below my ankles?
i wanna see someone do a drum cover to this song!!!
If they can..
@ Hamiltonjsh.
Like it is said on the info, " Clutch by Hancock's quintet."
@retrocareermelted well if you read the description you'll find one band right there
there is already sheet music made for this...but without the solos
cowboy!
I can't find any Herbie Hancock album, VSOP or otherwise, that has this tune on it, anywhere. Also, that definitely doesn't sound like Wayne on Soprano. if u look the track big p the melody is strikingly similar in the a sections
Apparently being a Cowboy Bebop fanboy has the side effect of making you a connoisseur of jazz...
Ive seen no credits, track list, or anything about Herbie's quintet doing this song. Anyone have any evidence?
I think it's under a different name
+Myron Green "During late 1970s and early 1980s, Hancock toured with his "V.S.O.P." quintet, which featured all the members of the 1960s Miles Davis quintet except Davis, who was replaced by trumpet giant Freddie Hubbard. this isn't actually wayne shorter on soprano is it? sounds like masato honda
Anyone have sheet music
that guitar is from the space
yes i wouldn't exacly call myself an expert musician. oh yeah. does guitar pro work on trumpet notes too?
It is Herbie but I wouldn't put it past Yoko Kanno to write something unexpectedly awesome in yet another genre.
Do you know any album that has songs like 'Memory'

Well I really meant the Bass. i have giant gorrilla fingers and I cant play the guitar very well.
