Can you guess who said the two quotes in this vid??? Thanks to all of you who stopped by for the premiere! And especially thank you to all those who made this vid possible! PART 2 IS GONNA BE LIT! Don't miss it. Subscribe.
This video was hell to make. Seemed cursed lol. So bad that I will be changing my ENTIRE post-production workflow for part 2. You can see some of the artifacts of the technical issues I had in the corrupted frames here and there but hopefully I will never have to deal with that again. That being said, all links (including how to contact me about anything at all) are in the description. Don't be a stranger!
Edit: I know the audio is less than perfect but you can thank Adobe for that. Had to live with an export bc at least it exported... Next time it'll be different for sure :)

Great video! It's true, we do take it for granted. It wasn't until I moved back home after living in the city for 9 years that I truly could appreciate my hometown. You and your wife represent what the town needs right now. New life, new perspectives, and new respect for the simple places in the middle of nowhere. Great job! Cheers! 🍺🍻🍺

It's really hard hearing the sadness in people's voices when I feel like there is so much hope to be had in ways people aren't thinking about. This region isn't doomed! I've lived in horrific places that killed my (and many others') ability to thrive. Here there is a chance. Thank you for sharing! I'm glad you liked it :) Cheers! 🍻

I'm originally from New Jersey and I moved to Mt. Carmel 10 years ago. I like it here. It's a lot different from NJ. People who are from Mt. Carmel don't seem to understand why I'm so happy here. It's just better. I can't describe it. The people are nicer and people just go with the flow. They don't care what you do with your own stuff here and I love that.

Oh.. my... goodness! I don't know where to begin but Thank You for creating such a wonderfully positive video about a town I love. My family immigrated to the US around 1850 and got shipped to Mt. Carmel. Today, you see the negative effects of population loss but all of the friends I once played with have either died of overdose or been the result of domestic violence in the town. Please please please... continue to see the beauty and a face of change for this quaint little town. When my father grew up in town there were laws stating anyone of color was not allowed to spend 24 hours in Mt. Carmel. Now, you are putting together content to highlight the beauty and are welcomed. Please continue as a face for change and the potential for a different future. Best of luck, will stay up to date with all of your new content as your newest subscriber.

Welcome to my hometown. When I was young I took Mount Carmel for granted and at the first chance I left and traveled across the globe. When I was finished I instantly went back to Mount Carmel and bought a home. I realized that my hometown is one of the best places in the world imo. Traveling and seeing how everyone else lives made me appreciate my community. Plus I love it's history. Mount Carmel was the first town or city with electric lights lighting up the streets. Also the first football stadium that had electric lights. Thomas Edison built the 6th power plant ever in Mount Carmel.

Just seeing your video. We have lived in the Bloomsburg area for 27 years and hope you are still as in love with Mt Carmel as when you filmed. What the coal region needs is people like you and your wife. Good people who can also see the good in a somewhat forgotten area who want to bring it back to it’s glory. I really enjoyed your perspective of our area and especially your sweetness and gratitude for the simpler but important things in life. We love living here too, there is so much to do and the coal region has the best ethnic food! I hope to see you out filming sometime! Come on up to the Bloomsburg Fair.

Thank you sooo much for this. I come from the Hall, Shovlin, Donahue Families, Mt Carmel. I remember Langis' when there was still a real soda fountain in there and the best home made ice cream ever. My Great Grandmother an Great Grandfather were the first of my family to settle there. My Aunt Josephine Shovlin ran the Kinney Shoe store there and probably most of the older generation knew my Aunt Mercedes Donahue who was a schoolteacher and had a masters in a time when it was unheard-of for a woman of the time.I was born in 1961 so I remember what a beautiful downtown area there was at one time. My Grandfather Richard Hall was an opera singer who died of what we think was TB leaving behind a wife and 5 children including my father Bernard A Hall, and unfortunately my Aunt Mary his youngest sister was killed in a sledding accident (actually ran into a bakery wagon). My Grandmother was so poor that she couldn't afford a doctor and Mary died from her Injuries. My Daddy and Une John Hall used to "rob the pillars in the mines for coal to keep the family from freezing and to sell little buckets of coal to the neighbors for pennies. There is so much history to Mt Carmel. The Theater was incredible. Also.people came from all over to go. To Doris Berry Shoppe for hand made hats gloves and tailored dresses. On Hickory Street was my Uncle Joseph Donahue's Furniture and Carpet Store that sold hand knotted imported rugs and also made rugs on a loom in thr store window. There is an expression in the coal regions that when someone is ...well I'll say unkempt or ungroomed they are called a sheenie. That actually has it's original roots from a family named "Sheeny" who had a horse drawn old wagon(the horse was also old and wore a hat. The Sheeny family were "rag men" back in the day. They would go through town singing "RAGS, METAL AND TIN...WHAT YOU DON'T WANT,THROW IT IN" 🎶. Also people would come from all over to Matucci's Corner Restaurant for the only real Italian food in the area. Gene Matucci was an executive chef and even the Culinary Institute of America would send students to study there. The restaurant was started by his parents and now his son still carries on providing fabulous food for reasonable prices and the pizza and fresh baked bread is to die for. My "sister" Rose (Catino) Modesto ( now the first lady of Deer Lake hete can really tell you about Mt Carmel history as she was born and raised there. There's so much to tell. Even the legendary Lady in White haunting of Broad Mountain. Have you checked out the library yet? The ladies there are amazing and there are vaults of microfeesh with pics and newspapers dating back to the 19th century. Also the old timers meet there (hopefully they still do) and are always thrilled to share great stories. Please fell free to call me at 570-366-2421...the Pottsville Republican Herald are always looking for historical and home town stories. They are actually a Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper due to a story that my father gave to a reporter named Eliot Jaspin. We have a really rich history here in the area. For example John O Hara's Gibbsville novels were written about our area. Coal was king and made many fortunes but the dark side was breaker boys, company houses and stores and "There's blood on the coal and the miners die in the holes that never see sun or sky".Also check into Mahanoy City.Babe Ruth played in the Anthricite league there. Pearl Baily got her start singing in the brothels of Pottsville.Conraid Weiser wrote his novels in Pine Grove. We are very proud of our rich and diverse cultural history and you'll never find friendlier or kinder people. Oh yes can't forget about Ben Franklin, Mohammed Ali, Black Jack Kehoe and the Molly Maguires his grandson is still alive and living in Girardville. James Jones who wrote "From Here to Eternity" has ties to the area also. And there's a very cool story about how Pottsville "acquired " the Statue of Henry Clay. How about Hawk Mountain Sanctuary?Have you gone to Knobels Grove yet? I can go on and on and I already did and I've just started the tip of the Iceberg. Very happy to have you in our community so keep making your artistic pieces about our area. God Bless and with Warmest Regards, Beth A Hall, Deer Lake...

Hard to imagine at this point, but I'll swing by at some point to hear you out! We're on the verge of making a decision to stay for longer or continue with our original plan so I'm all ears :)

People need to come out and vote in this small town. Mt, Carmel was once a great town. I heard not one but many terrible stories about the head of this town. Please don't get me to start with the local police here. I have a story to tell, and I'm about to write a complaint letter, hopefully getting someone on the top to know the situation.
