- Monsignor James P. Shea offered this speech during the National Eucharistic Congress on July 18th, 2024.
He was inaugurated in 2009 as the sixth president of the University of Mary.
Msgr. Shea grew up on a dairy farm near Hazelton, North Dakota. He earned a bachelor's degree and a licentiate in philosophy as a Basselin Fellow in the School of Philosophy at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, later studying theology at the Gregorian and Lateran universities in Rome. Upon completion of his seminary formation at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Msgr. Shea was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Bismarck in 2002.

I was at the congress. Basically every speaker if there was a pause of a couple seconds there was an applause. Monsignor Shea was so captivating in this speech the crowd was stunned and drawn in a way that I have never experienced before. Truly one of the best speeches of all time and without notes. The spirit of God flowed through him, and we were blessed from that moment on.
You put it so right! The audience was all quiet and my attention was focused from beginning to end, hearing each word he said and feeling his passion in his voice. God does love Fr. Shea.
I wanted to attend so badly. I'm glad it is on video. We hosted a few of the Pilgrims at our church. It was very nice.
And he's so calm and quiet. It's quite mesmerizing, I guess the truth is!
In a 40 minute talk, he summarized the entire salvation history.

I watched this speech as a Catholic from Indonesia, never knew this Monsignor before (I listen Bishop Barron podcast regularly), but the moment Monsignor Shea started his speech by praying, it already moved my heart. The way he gave his speech clearly showed it that he really loves Jesus.

I am floored. I attended the Congress, but was not in this session. I cannot believe I missed this. I am SO glad I came across it. This is life-changing.
This was part of the Encounter talks at Lewis Oil Stadium. The other talks at the same time were from the Empowe which was at Indiana Convention Center.

I have never heard something so profound. I am a critical Catholic Roman Catholic practice all my life. The only thing that kind of bothers me and I know I shouldn’t do this, but our Lord did not hang on a tree. He was crucified on the cross.
Today i understood the Old and New testament together. The Living Bread from Heaven alone can satisfy our hunger.

I have heard Msgr Shea on Relevant Radio on some of the talk shows as he promotes the U of Mary and I praise his vision for the devout focus of the curriculum for the Nursing program, providing tuition, housing and even child care! I never saw him but only heard his compassionate voice until watching this truly comforting ‘homily’!

Wow this man was paying attention in Homeletics class at seminary school and did an amazing exegesis.
Imagine listening to him every Sunday, the Churches would be filled to capacity.
He was the pastor of my small town North Dakota church when I was in high school. The church was full every Sunday, and every Sunday the homily was amazing. He did make sure to remind us that we don’t come to Mass for the homily, we come for the Eucharist.

Truly God lives and He sends us His prophets. Mons. Shea is one of them. I sense passion in the shaking of his voice. Jesus Christ is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

Thank you Msgr. I paused the speech to listen to the hymn "You satisfy...". I paused to check the Satiety Score poster. Couldn't stop rewinding again and again in quite a few places.
