- TODAY we begin our great East Malaysian odyssey - from Tip to Tip and along the Pan-Borneo Highway stretching all the way from Kilometer 0 to the other end of the island in Tawau. We’ll be riding over 2,150 miles (3,500 kilometers), touching the beaches of three different seas, through some of the thickest jungles of Southeast Asia, and to the highest mountain of Borneo.
It’s an epic quest of monumental proportions, and we’re going to be doing it all on a KTM 250 Adventure! 2 people and all of our stuff squished onto one small motorcycle that doesn’t have a good luggage system…

Excellent upgrade bike! A KTM even, wow! The roads look great and the food even better.
May I suggest, to give Marissa a few more inches of room, Tim, put your backpack on backwards so it becomes a chest bag.
That will work if the shoulder straps have a chest strap, it keeps the shoulder straps from sliding forward down your arms. If it doesn't have a chest strap, maybe you can create one? If not, Marissa, try wearing Tim's backpack over or under yours. There is little to no weight when on the bike because they will sit on your gear bag. That's a small bike for two adults and with your gear too!
One way or another, removing Tim's backpack from between you, even as lightly loaded as it is, will give you more room on the bike.
We're looking forward to more Borneo adventures!

I couldn't wear it on the front because of the tank bag... It was tight, but we kinda like the backpack between us as it allows for a little cushion at all times. When I brake, she doesn't slam into me or knock helmets.
Ahh, mine sits on top of my tank bag and stays in place. Whatever works for you. I know about the helmet knocking, that helps me to work at being smoother shifting and braking. I can tell when Robyn is falling asleep because her helmet will be bumping against my back. I squeeze her leg to wake her up and pull off the road soon so we can walk around, or maybe lay down on the grass for a short rest.
I haven't tried riding two up on my small bikes (under 500 cc) so we haven't had the same "No room" issue, but even on my bigger bikes it works best if I don't wear my backpack between us. I should say it doesn't make any difference to me, but it does to Robyn. Trying different things is how we find out what works best for us in any new situation. @@2UpAndOverloaded

The tank bag wouldn't allow that. It was a tight fit for sure, but there was enough room! But we are looking forward to a little bit of a larger (longer) motorcycle when we reach mainland Malaysia!
Hi! This was great to see and meet all the great people on your journey. The foods you eat and test are interesting and I commend you on trying them. I’m with Tim, a good burger fries and a great shake is the way to go.. poor Marisa, if Tim could wear his backpack in front and still see and maneuver that could be a relief and if Marisa could turn her backpack upside down and still be able to travel with her “SPECIAL FLOWERS” that may help too. We’ve done a little adjusting with the rear bag and are much more comfortable now.
Sadly, the tank bag gets in the way of Tim wearing the backpack as a “frontpack”. But even if a little cramped, we are loving every mile!
That luggage could do with some rearranging and but whatever works for you guys. Great adventure and looking forward to the next one.

@2UpAndOverloaded I am very sure you will like peninsula as the roads are better and covers many villages and mountain ranges. But just be mindful of wild animal crossing especially the grik highway up north or near national park of taman negara, gua musang, Cameron highlands. Wild elephants, sometimes tigers, panthers, leopards, tapir. Many road kill happened in peninsula.
My advise,keep ride on the left lane if you guys drive slow.Ride safe guys👍🏼👍🏼

By now you might notice malaysians love sauces...from the sloppy burger to flooded fries..and who knows what else you've encountered along the way...perhaps fried rice or noodle with loaded of chilli sauce on top hahaha

We are loving every mile! But some of the flooded fries and burgers are a bit to much 😂.
But we have found excellent food all across East Malaysia 🇲🇾 and have some new lifelong favorite dishes that we will miss everywhere else in the world.

It maybe a good idea if Tim wears the back pack in front instead of the norm. It will create some comfortable space between you and Marisa.
In fact, Marisa may want to do the same so she could sit further at the back for a more comfortable posture.
The tank bag gets in the way for me to wear it as a “front pack”. But we’ve made some adjustments and have a little more breathing room now!

@@2UpAndOverloaded I'm a KTM Adventure 790 user, I think the 1190 Adventure is too heavy to be used off road, but it has amazing power on the road to travel long distances 👍🏻👍🏻

Nice adventure! I did kuching to miri on the 80% completed pan borneo a couple of months ago in 9 hours, including 2 stops in sibu, for lunch and for refuel. But not on a motorbike 😬
There are so many beautiful places along the route! We are loving every mile! (or KM 🤣)

@@2UpAndOverloaded after bintulu, nearing the small city of miri, I continued on the yet to be completed pan borneo, but if you used the coastal road, then about 30 km after the popular niah, you'll get to the tiny town of bekenu, and passing the junction into bekenu town, straight ahead right after that junction, there's a left turn into kampung bungai, where there's pantai bungai (pantai=beach) to cool down with a couple of pandan coconut under the trees by the beach ahhh so fragrant and refreshing! plus some local snacks...
About the burger, the locals in Malaysia loves it doused in 'gravy' so when I order burger from a roadside stall or food court I just tell them to hold the sauce! Tim, try wearing your back pack at the front. This way you won't squish Marisa as much 😂

@@2UpAndOverloaded I checked, we do have an assembly plant in kedah state although it is ckd parts. I believe ktm is an Austrian bike brand. Manufactured in Germany. We also have Royal Enfield (india).

@@2UpAndOverloaded before I click on the video, I thought you guys are going to do the endurance ride, so two wheels is not a good choice. I have driven my pickup truck from kuching to miri with two stops in between that took about 12 hours for the entire journey, that was before Pan Borneo Highway. so I presumed the ride is much smoother now. I like KTM, and has been checking out RC 200 recently. I hope you guys enjoy the great scenery along the ride, to me, the best scenery is the long stretch of paddy field between the main road, it was in the evening and after rain, so you get the misty and serenity feel, nonetheless, hope you enjoy your tours in borneo and sample local foods that is only available in borneo. Cheers. BTW, hailak is the local term for Hilux pickup.
@@TerminatorMod101 wow that sounds like an epic trip as well! I think the pan Borneo highway did make things easier these days, but the journey should be no less spectacular! I think from our experience you will like the KTM 200, we take like the 250, and it's a good quality bike. Best of travels to you on both two wheels and four!
@@2UpAndOverloaded it is fun to drive on 4 wheels, if I remember correctly, i did it to and fro less than 4 times, and call it quits, for one reason, it is time consuming, and would be more time efficient if travel by air. So I have being flying since. for the sake of experience, it is good and fun ride though.cheers.

Untuk riding anda selama di indonesia, anda hanya riding dari jkt smp semarang dan menyeberang ke kalimantan, masih banyak rute yang belum anda lewati selama di Indonesia dr sumatra jawa sampai flores dan itu indah sekali selama anda tahu/mencari tahu jalur mana yang anda pilih, terutama di pulau jawa yang sangat banyak jalurnya

Being loaded like that do you find it easier for the driver to get on first or the passenger?
I (Tim) always get on first and then help stabilize the motorcycle while Marisa gets in the pillion seat!

Of course its cramp. Its a 250 KTM. Try an over 1000cc KTM
We have an 1190 back in the States. But the 250 is doing very well for its size!
