    He's the one man who batters Disney into submission. No happy-clappy hero bullshit, but the truest facet of every emotion thinkable. Hayao Miyazaki is, without hyperbole, the greatest animator and storyteller the medium has ever seen.

    Hayao Miyazaki is superior to walt disney. Miyazaki is the real G.O.A.T. story, animation, cinematography, music and direction wise. Miyazaki's works are magical and realistic at the same time. On the contrary, disney's works are just about fantasy and full of fantasy. In other words, illusion of the world or delusional world. Disney can never make an animated film that is very realistic equivalent to Grave of the Fireflies since disney did not know how. Disney was very childish. A fantasy living in happy endings all the time was what walt disney can do because that's all he knew. His stories never teach his audience the dark side of reality because disney was blinded by illusion. He has been misleading his audience through his movies. Walt disney was never balance at showing both fantasy and harsh reality.
    In conclusion, Hayao Miyazaki is the REAL G.O.A.T. Disney could only wish that he had half of Hayao Miyazaki's prodigious talent.

    Miyazaki is something that will teach you how to make your films stand. any film student knows the basic arch that most movies follow which Miyazaki, who never studied film, ignores which is why his movies are able to let loose, because they don't follow a set architecture for plot and development. tbh from his view, it's understandable that he might find a lot of today's stuff as garbage because it all does the same arches because that's what the students study and are too afraid to divert for finacial errors. Miyazaki tells a story how he wants, not how it is taught.
    key for anyone going into arts, you can learn all u want at a school, but unless you branch out and explore, love the work and doing work outside of school, you will fall into the pits of the standardized movement of film in today's era. it may make you money, but it would make a memory in someone's heart

Some of it would later be retained in most of the Renaissance films such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dome and Mulan. But after those and for the most part in general, Disney animation has been a very very basic kid friendly gritty and dark for all of its films. Not the more realistic gritty and dark Walt Disney himself preferred and the method Dreamworks animation has become more known for in the last couple of decades with the likes of How to Train your Dragon, Kung-Fun Panda, Shrek, Rise of the Guardians and The Prince of Egypt. Otherwise Laika Studios films have been the closet to Miyazaki's films in the last decade.

      he was not being compared.. did you even listen to the speech?
      Compare - to examine (two or more objects, ideas, people, etc.) in order to note similarities and differences:
      to compare two pieces of cloth; to compare the governments of two nations.
      He was not compared to Walt Disney, he was mentioned as one of the figures that made a gigantic contribution in the history of animation.

    • @thedude7614
      @thedude7614 10 лет назад +77

      Karosuu calm down... I know what the verb to compare means there's no need to be a patronising bellend... by saying they've both made massive contributions to the animation industry implies a similarity, and since Hayao Miyazaki was nicknamed the 'walt disney of japan' by americans, this may have annoyed him that's all...

    • @NWR1991
      @NWR1991 9 лет назад +8

      Dulala So you compare a man who creates such great stories and animation to a company that makes movies that had dated pop culture references and some mediocre stories in their movies. I like Dreamworks but in my opinion they haven't made any good film since Madagascar 3. Plus Disney has distribute most of Miyazaki's work as well as redubbing and translation of his work as well, thanks to John Lasseter who's an employee of Disney's animation. Plus many people have compared him to Walt Disney because his stories, in my opinion, have heart like Disney's. I've seen many Ghibli films and of course he treats some princesses, the ones that are called princesses in the Ghibli films, greatly. But Disney princesses are treated independent like in Frozen where Princess Anna went to help her sister or in Brave, while yes it's a Pixar film but Disney distributed, when Merida was the only one that was getting her mother out of the curse that she had brought in. Not all Disney princesses are bad.

Say what you want but Disney literally inspired the entire western world and countless of artists, animators and more. Disney himself was a shit sure but sometimes the legacy is more than the person behind it. Disney is that.
    Miyazaki-san is the best of both worlds. He's both legacy AND the man. Titles and awards don't give honor to people, people give honor to titles. Oscars should be proud they are able to award a man like Miyazaki, and the world should be thankful for what he has given us.

    Why did he even rank them? Disney films are great, but it's really no comparison.
    Nevermind the artistic creativity, for a moment. Miyazaki tells mostly original stories. Whereas Disney simply retold Hans Christen Anderson and Brothers Grimm stories.

    For everyone saying that Studio Ghibli is better - that it not the unpopular opinion. You're not daring, you're not special. Get over your pretentious self.
    As someone studying Animation in Uni, they're two drastically different Studios doing drastically different things. Sure Disney misses more often than Ghibli does, but considering its huge repertoire of phenomenal works, they'd pretty much be on the same level.
    More importantly, though, why exactly are we comparing them again ? Just because they're using the same medium ? To me, that ultimately is a sign of someone who doesn't understand or value Animation an an art form.

    I had somewhat similar feelings about Hayao Miyazaki being compared to Walt Disney and that he ranks above him (which in some ways is very true) but now looking back, I think he's rightfully compared and equal to Walt Disney. Having seen a lot of Japanese animation, I don't rank Hayao Miyazaki as the most "innovative" or "greatest" animator of all time, he's the most consistent in his work but his films are just as easy to digest as a Disney film. I love Hayao Miyazaki's films but even Japanese animators with just one great anime ranks above a lot of Miyazaki's films. I love how sophisticated and nostalgic his movies are but compared to even a television anime series like Boogiepop Phantom or Serial Experiments Lain, he's very similar to Disney in that his movies are easy and don't tackle more complex issues (even though he has at times). I don't think that just because an anime that deals with depression easily ranks above an anime that is romantic or action/adventure as long as it's done well. But, when there are RUclips videos dedicated to Hayao Miyazaki and putting down the medium of anime because of silly stereotypes, it shows that most people haven't watched anime. The same could easily be said of American animation and comic books which really is narrow and one dimensional compared to Japanese animation which has....everything including very serious topics that even critically acclaimed American movies wouldn't tackle.

    I know some of these comments are over a year old but comparing Hayao to Walt Disney is NOT an insult?? Learn your history before making comments. Walt Disney LITERALLY released the first full-length, 1hr+ long animated film in the 30s when animation was so undeveloped and slightly new. Walt Disney also produced the first animation with synchronised sound. Astroboy, the first comic book in Japan to have that "anime"-like aesthetic we see today was INFLUENCED by Walt Disney animation. ANIME/manga WOULD NOT be what it looks like today without the influence of Walt Disney's animation. Disney animation also paved a path for ANIMATION in general and discovered techniques defining how animation should be/look (Google the illusion of life).
    I LOVE Hayao Miyazaki, I love his films and he is TRULY a pioneer in animation. But, Walt Disney deserves his title as the #1 animator/animation filmmaker because of all the contributions he made to the success and innovation of animation.

      i get ur point but THE first pioneer is unconditionally always the best? thats like saying oh this civilization made langauge first, and all other language can traced back centuries back and it is influenced by that language, or saying paper was made in china, all greatest author comes after the chinese guy. Yes, Walt disney is the pioneer and thanks to him for all animation today, but that doesnt mean someone else can be more talented. Apple isnt the first company to make computers or other devices, so they are less great than the original computer>?

    People complaining about the Disney "comparison" are missing the point. The reason Disney is mentioned as "the first" is not because he was a better animator, but because he laid the groundwork and infrastructure for animation as we know it to exist in the first place.
