The studio's most recent projects have severely underperformed, playing a significant role in Disney's unprecedented box office failures. The MCU is continually introducing new heroes, teams, and loose plot threads, while acute superhero fatigue settles over audiences that just can't keep up.
A single film, even one as big as Deadpool & Wolverine, can only accomplish so much as one film in a universe of content. The Multiverse Saga has consistently underwhelmed, and Deadpool & Wolverine is just one of several projects to address the multiverse. The fact remains that the MCU is struggling for many reasons, including the introduction of too many still-unresolved plotlines that fall well outside the scope of a Deadpool outing.
