Other programmer here: don't prematurely optimize ;) This looks much better then many other marble projects. Maybe could do with a bit more banking on some turns but one thing at a time. As for the elevator, I think other comments may have covered it. Could also just look at commercial marble toys or check out Ivan Miranda's marble music machine for ideas.
The elevator hooks. widen the hook bit into a scoop. This will push against the side and keep the marble from sliding past and falling down. Also, making it a scoop shape will keep it balanced more. So the wider hook will keep it from going fully to the side, and the added area will provide more support for the marble at the same time. Just after I posted this, I see the comment just before mine :/
I was thinking same as Mark Burton. Either make a wider holding hook in the elevator chain or a second one right next to it to keep the marble from shifting.
maybe make it so your hooks are more of a scoop so the marbles cant shift in them once picked up then even if the scoop shifts side to side it wont drop the marble?

Pair up the hooks, using them as the sides of the chain. Wider hooks mean less space to wobble.
good start IMO, will enjoy seeing the final result
make the marble chain wider and with 2 hooks side by side with slit in the middle
