- The heatwave scorching South and Southeast Asia is forecast to continue until the middle of next month.
Dozens of people have died from heat-related illnesses.
In the Philippines, schools have suspended in-person classes and the government has issued guidelines to protect workers from the heat.
Al Jazeera’s Barnaby Lo reports from Manila, the Philippines.

It's a stupid government's move to move the school calendar. Before, the classes starts on June and ends in around April because April-May are summer months and usually hot.
That's because heavy rains also brought class suspensions in June to September affecting the number of school days across the country. Anyway the previous summer months wasn't that hot unlike this year. Heat this year is exacerbated by El Niño.
Floods and typhoons w/c caused dengue fever and leptospirosis were major risks with the old school calendar. They in turn resulted in massive school disruptions and medical problems for the kids.

Incompetent uneducated government officials what do you expect from a 3rd world poverty country, I pity the homeless people and families who sleep outside yet the government doesn't care unlike the USA where there's help.

Work from home? But most Philippine homes dont have air conditioning. I would rather report to an airconditioned office than stay/work at home.
Not all work places have air conditioning too.
Getting to the office is the problem. Most Filipinos don’t own cars and rely on cheap transportation which also does not have ac!

This is the hottest summer I have ever experienced in Manila. Last night I had trouble sleeping because our room's airconditioner, which usually works well, couldnt cool our room adequately.
So true. As someone who has lived all my life in Metro Manila, this is unusually hot than ever! This is abnormally hot and unbearable.

Likewise I had to replace my air conditioner as even though my room meets the standard cooling capacity of my air conditioner, even at maximum temperature my room still feels hot.

It's not yet considered a heat wave according to the Philippine govt weather agency. Having not met the criteria for the said weather phenomenon, it's only classified as "extreme heat".
It's so hot out there that no matter how fast our fans are set, it never cools off. Using AC is already expensive due to rising electricity costs.
Constant power outages is disturbing, as an expat I decided to leave the Philippines and head back to the USA, this heat and lack of etiquette no morals convinced me to leave in 2 months.

I follow even the most simple rules coz I want a harmonious life but then everyone around me like you said, lacks moral, integrity... you know, people park anywhere, there are so many trash bins here but you can still see trash everywhere. I sort my trash even the food trash but my neighbors throw theirs in the sewage grate bear us. Evryone around me steal when they get the chance. Everything has to be gratis. Beginning of the end of humanity. I personally sacrificed three things in life: never purchased a car, AC. Stopped using single use plastic. Stored and used waste water from RO filter. Used carpooling for communication to office.

Since birth I cannot bear the heat of a sunlight in the Philippines. I always ask how my country men work under the sun, how they do that?
It was 41 in Siem Reap, Cambodia today. The real feel with humidity made it feel like 48. And I work in a kitchen, double heat!😊
Then come June it will be replaced by extreme flooding due to rainy season. We can't win.
Several classes went back to online classes, but some schools with air conditioners continue but had to adjust the time. My niece in preschool had her classes from 5 days down to 2-3 a week on the morning schedule, her brother in 5th grade had mixed learning so they can’t miss out on their lessons
Classes are suspended but some students spend their time on the beach, rivers, play ball games in scorching heat or go somewhere else.
Wondering if there's away to convert that heat to energy for air condition....

Here in India (due to development) majority have access to AC to be the heat . I slept in AC my entire life. We have inverter AC it does not increase electricity bills.
If you have lived in AC your entire life of course your electric bill hasn't increased by using the AC inverter because you do not know any difference by not using AC.
AC inverters are much more efficient but they do not run for free either 😂

Due to Global Warming, the highlands of the Philippines with cooler weather like the Cordilleras (Baguio City, Tuba and Itogon) and Bukidnon (Malaybalay City, Valencia City and Maramag) are the ideal investment and living places for the future.

Public schools have fans Private schools, most of them are fully air conditioned.
Ceiling fans are of little help but of course many homes have them. What you will see more of are circular fans which push more air. The humidity is usually high so unless you set in front of a fan you will be sweating and need to be fairly close to the fan. Mini splits are what you will see in Asian countries but the majority of homes in the Philippines do not have one. The mini split is too expensive for most and even if you gave them away most homes could not afford the electric cost to run them.

But that's ok, we have transferred intelligence digitally into inorganic matter and systems, which will expand exponentially and evolve even further than any biological creatures could have taken it.
