- OLD CAMP STOVE
I recently got a couple of these “sad iron stove/heaters” from my friend Steve @doinsngoins when our gang camped in Kentucky back in October. He knew I’d been looking for one to use at my camp in the woods to cook on.
I’ve been fixing them up, and now I’m finished.
Today I’ll test one of them to make my lunch at my Tiki Bar, before taking it to the woods.
Check out Steve’s channel for a lot of vintage and unique finds!
Thanks for watching!

Dang that stove is cool and the square cast iron wow. Awesome video great looking burger. I need to show a stove I got out of my Grandpa's place but it doesn't work the valve is broken i believe
The square skillet fits perfectly on that stove! I bet you can fix your Grandpa’s stove!!!
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors really I should lube it up and look at it it's been a long time way before yt

Thanks Jason- I think they’re very cool. I’ll be using them at my camp real soon
And I happen to have everything to make that! Except a 100 year old stove. Looked great!

The sell these still. Between $125 to $500. Worth the money IMHO.

Thanks Sean! I’m surprised you don’t have one of these!!! 🤣
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors If I had seen one up here I would have it probably.. I have a Coleman white gas powered iron. Even have the trivet base for putting the iron down.. The heavy burn marks on the wooden handle were putting me off trying it. Thank you for the reply, Chris. Stay safe and stay warm
That is a really cool stove! So glad you got them working again.
Billy!
Cool little heater! I didn’t know they’d throw out that much heat.
Burger looked delicious!
The Ale8 has become my favorite ginger ale 👍🏻
Yeah, they put out a lot more heat than I thought they would! Agree with you on the Ale8! 👍🏻

That turned out great! It looks completely different from the last time I saw it at the fall meet.

Thanks Annie! Merry Christmas!!!
Hey Chris , that is a cool heater . I’ve never seen one like that . The burger looked great . Thanks for sharing !! 👍🏻
Thanks Del... I think they were owned by “higher-up” families up north... our families down here probably just used the regular ol’ wood stove to heat up their clothes iron.
Awesome little stove ! I picked up a couple of those same little cast iron skillets !!!
i have seen these recently and wondered if they would actually work. did the job nicely
Heck yeah! I think it will work nice in a well ventilated tarp shelter as a heater too! I hope you’re doing ok 👍🏻
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors doing good. thank you my friend
Never seen one of those before! Neat contraption right there 👍🏼 hope all is well with you and your family!
They are rare around here, that’s for sure. I think they were more popular up north 100 years ago. Merry Christmas!!!
That is a very cool little stove....
Pretty impressive Chris, that old stove still packs a punch

Pretty cool 👍🏻
Daggone !!! I want one 🤩 that’s beautiful!!!!
Thanks Donna! I’ve been wanting one for at least five years... I saw a “partial” one at an antique store and immediately thought about how I could use one at camp. I never saw another one until Steve did a video about the one he found. I’m happy we were able to do some trading!!! 👍🏻

That stove has a very interesting design. Thanks
That is a really neat piece for sure. Awesome find
It's online. Search Springhill or winnerwell
Neat stove and the burger looks awesome thanks for sharing 🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏻👍🏻
😮that is one cool unit. Nice😊
Thanks Kerry... it’s got a lot of history... I like it!
I have a double one I got at a sale for $5 it needs the parts where the wick turns up the flat part that holds it is so rusted Thought I could make one from a tin can But I am a woman so Not sure if that would work . Any Ideas of were you could order parts like that ?
Thanks for checking out the stove video. I’m sorry but I don’t know where you could get those pieces.
100 years old…as good as the first day 👍🏻👍🏻
A picture is worth a thousand words!
👍🏻~John
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Merry Christmas John!
In a smaller camper, how's the heat output!? Love the classic design!✌️
Over THE TOP Chris !!!!!! Nice work !!!!😂😊
Delicious 😋 😋 😋 😊
She’s a runner! 😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Gots a double one that is slated for a restore one day here
Very cool! I ordered new wicks and mica windows from the same guy out in Oregon, or Washington maybe... Very reasonable
Ok cool. I'm gonna need some parts to probably
Awesome looking burger. Needs bacon and Swiss but otherwise awesome!!! The stove/heater is great! Does it run on kerosene or something else? Have an excellent holiday season with your loved ones! Many blessings to you all in the coming year!❤️🙏
Oh man. Super yum yummers
LOVE IT
Never seen one of those before. Very cool. What type fuel does that baby use.
I’m using “ultra pure paraffin oil” from Hobby Lobby. It burns real clean. This thing will be a great Bushcraft shelter heater (with proper ventilation, of course)
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors what’s it called.
@@creek_camper “sad iron stove”... originally used to heat the old cast iron irons your great grandmother used to iron Papa’s Sunday shirt 😀
Why heat a cloths iron when burgers are better eh 😜 Nice video Chris
😂😂😂 My thoughts exactly 👍🏻
Thats a damn fine looken little stove.
Morning Chris. Good to see you. I could use that outback!
Heck yeah! It puts out a lot of heat. Perfect for a prick or patio. The wind kind of messes with it though... need to use a windscreen outside. Hope y’all are doing okay!!!
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors doing well. Just mentioned you in a video that’s near posting.
Wow Chris that is a very unique looking stove and that square pan was pretty cool looking with it. I could almost taste that burger, it looked delicious and a little Texas Pete made it complete 😉 Is that a kerosene stove, it looks like it might be......Take care, Mike.
It is an iron heater... like great grandma used to use. It was originally used to heat up the clothes iron and it did run on kerosene. But today’s kerosene isn’t the same as it was 100 years ago... it burns too sooty.... I’m using paraffin oil which is odorless and burns real clean. The little square skillet worked great with it!!!
Thanks for the info. My brother has an old iron that our Great Grandmother used. I think it was just placed on the oil fired or wood stove. The paraffin oil is what I've been using in my Grandfather's oil lantern. Burna good with that.@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors
That is a super cool stove my friend! Where did you find that at?
Hey!!!
My buddy Steve (channel in description) I traded a couple things
First !
Looks good. If you want a bit more flavor and structure to the bun, spread a bit of mayo and grill each half in the pan (not butter, but mayo). Just til there's a little color. Yum.
Oh yes.... I do that with my “patty melts” and grilled cheese sandwiches.... YUM!
I recently purchased a new Winnerwel cast iron stove and was shocked that it came with those flimsy plastic windows. Out of about a hundred reviews I looked at on youtube, not one ever mentioned that.
Mine are “mica”, it’s not expensive. I replaced two windows for $9.00 (US$)
This Lantern/Stove is great for Emergencies.
Power Out ?? Still can cook food. Lamp oil fuel.
You can use larger Cast Iron pot/pans to cook for a family. Stew, burgers, steak, hotdogs, sausages, etc. BBQ beans and hotdogs. Eggs, omelettes, bacon, ham, chops, etc .. using lamp oil.
Okay Chris I need to know how you got that. I heard they only sell them in Japan LOL. I must have
HA! The new “copycat” ones are only in Japan right now but this is an American oldie. The new ones are based off of this design. 👍🏻
what a strange coincidence today 18 Dec I've just received a notification from Ali Express in China of a stove almost identical to this it's the Thousand Winds brand
They’re always watching! 😳
I just thought I'd seen about every kind of stove. NOPE, never seen this before. 👍
I’m glad I could introduce you to a new o e Tony! Merry Christmas!!!
Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎅
Very cool bro, 🍺🔥🤙🏼
Great stove. Does it use kerosene?
It was designed to use kerosene a hundred years ago (when kerosene was much more refined than it is today) but I’m running “ultra pure paraffin oil in it... they say it’s more like old timey kerosene
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors I also thought it might be made for coal oil
@@tracyphillips3325 - Maybe... I reckon people used whatever burned good... (or what was available) I would’ve had wrinkly clothes probably! 😂
Interesting! And no batteries… 😂
Nice stove.
Thanks Jerome!
Hot sauce I love it Chris keep it up
“No Meal is Complete Without Texas Pete” 🔥👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors you got that right and I like it on possom
@@Mik854 - I’ve only had possum stew and some “potted meat” possum with crackers. Of course I had Texas Pete on both!
100 year old stove? You can buy that identical Winnerwell stove right. There are like 100 unboxing videos of that exact stove on RUclips.
@@robertosborn9910 / yep, but they are new. Mine is antique, and didn’t cost me a dime! Thanks for watching!
I liked the stove and your choice of mayonnaise.
Is there another brand of mayonnaise??? 😂
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors Not really. They make it in Mauldin, S.C.
@adnacraigo6590 - you are right... about 45 minutes away from me 😋
Where can we buy it
Antique store maybe... it’s over 100 years old.
How can I get one?
I’d look around at your local antique shops or eBay and Facebook Marketplace. This one is about 100 years old
That stove is brand new. Ain’t got to lie Craig
Ain’t lying Donny... thanks for watching though
That stove looks SAD I mean its.original purpose was to be a SAD iron heater, used to heat the old.fashioned clothes irons while at the same time providing.light to work by, hence the mica window in front of the fire. But... it seems to do well as a cook stove too.
Yes... it does well. Thanks!
Now I want too kick myself in the ass I had a chance too pick up 1 of those kerosene stoves for $30 and passed it up it was in a amish store near me. They're cool just never seen 1 working that's why I passed it up
There is a company making these now for $379!!!!
😳😳😳😳😳😳
Yeah, it's this stove made by Winnerwell!😂
