do independent contractors have their own established business or are they just being hired 1099 as an individual? Can you obtain standalone GL and workers comp as an individual or do they have to have an established business entity?
Well, I'm a tiny sole proprietor musical instrument repair business and so far have not been able to get any insurance because either insurance company web sites don't know how to categorize or process me and thus, won't let me proceed, and there's no number to call an agent OR the ins company won't insure a certain part of my business like consignments and used gear. This was supposed to be simple, but it's a nightmare, and my Landlord requires me to have insurance. UGH!
