It reminds me the summer house my family was building in the place where my grandmother grew up, and where I spent most of my childhood. Unfortunately due to one of the co-owners passing and legalities not managed properly from his side, we lost it to a distant family . The only thing we have left of the place is a massive landscape painting that 2 years in, I am still working on. It is the hardest painting I ever worked on because it is so hard for me to not cry my eyes out when I look at it. One day I will finish it, and it will be a gift to my family, something to remember the place we fell in love it and worked so hard on.
I couldn't imagine land which is more respected and loved, shown by the beautiful videography and narration. It is incredible to see all of the work you've done on it in a short couple of years. Bravo for this reflective piece! Can't wait to see what the next few years will bring!
I wish I could Hug 🤗 you, thank you all for what you bring in content. Some of us don't get the opportunity to walk out in the gift's of nature, you bring us the purest common day understanding of what today's World is lacking. 🌎
I have only felt that way a few times.....coming home....when we moved to Toledo...his family lives here...I felt like a fish out of water....I'm a country boy...born and hope to die as such...I had had lots of poultry..chickens ,ducks, geese, turkeys, guineas, pea fowl, pigeons and doves. So I feel like an alien on a strange world, only my plants keep me anchored. I am a HUGE lover of roses. I don't call myself a rose expert, I just love them. I'm my life time I have had about 1,800 roses. That's when Pickering in Canada was open. I landscaped 3/4 of an acre around my parents home and put in 2 ornamental fish ponds. I loved it! In 2002 I was diagnosed with arthritis and fibromialgia so I had the let the gardens return to lawn. I could still keep up with my poultry. I met the love of my kufe in 2004 and we moved to a small town and now we live here. Toledo will let people have a few hens, so I'm excited about that. I see how young you all are and what a great idea you have come up with. It's a little like the Amish way. You potential is limitless there.. you can do all most anything your mind comes up with!!!!! When you get ready for chickens please let me know...I'm up to date on most USA and European breeds and I know many smaller breeders for good quality birds...and if your goal is only eggs, remember, there is not a chicken breed that comes close in ability to a duck layer...its just you need a slightly different mind set with ducks...beautiful video everyone...I wish each of you all the happiness you deserve!!!!!!!🐈🐦🌈☘️🌹🐣🐔🐓💐🌿🌲🌞🦆🦚🕊
Love that you have found so much love for roses and birds and your partner and life. And yes, we feel very motivated here. The place and the people make us feel more and more motivated, so it's a positive feedback loop. We'll keep that in mind about chickens. For us, I think we'll start with the chickens and ducks that (unfortunately) get dumped by so many people. That's how Kippee came into my life. And how many of the birds that we take care of in Brooklyn came to us. So we'll likely end up with a random motley crew of sorts. That's more of where my heart is at. Giving something that someone cast off, a second chance at a better life.
I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos! It is so inspirational to witness the love you have for the land, community, and each other. It is a beautiful reminder that we all have choices about how we live on this planet. ❤
Summer - My husband and I have been following your videos and the flock's adventure through the pandemic and we continue to. This is one of the most powerfully inspirational videos we've seen from you yet. Thank you so much.
I’m so happy and proud of your progress! It’s a little bittersweet to watch since we are also in an in-between phase in life, trying to decide where to buy land and begin a new homesteading journey. Thanks for the inspiration and sharing your struggles finding your property search.
This brings me to tears...very well filmed an love the 4 years in 10 min...we recently bought a small homestead and find patience is key and long to see the light at the end of the tunnel...lots of to-dos and learning along the way...this makes me feel hopeful...so thank you.
Glad this fills you with hope. I think when you shift your mind to, "this will be our life's project," then it becomes a way of life, which for us, really resonates. Others may want to 'retire' early to go golf and spend time on the beach and have the every day stuff taken care for them, for example. But that's not us. We're signing up for this with our eyes wide open. Best to you on your journey. It's an exciting project, way of living.
@@FlockFingerLakes Very well said and couldn't agree more...I love the whole "way of life" with what you're doing...something I wanted to do years ago and timing is everything. Thanks for the thoughtful reply.
Another great glimpse into your journey and life...I really enjoy how you convey your ups and downs along the way. Very interesting. And your plans and what you and your friends have accomplished are amazing. Thanks for inviting us along..
Wow, what a beautiful dream of yours! I wish I can be one of those 4 friends. Great work! I’m living in Los Ange, CA try to move away on a bigger piece of land , and practice more sustainable and intentional living. Your channel is So inspiring .
The unceasing and tireless effort result is this astonishing nature that warms the heart just watching it. I think the most dificult part of the process must have been keeping the society between friends strong. What a journey! Much respect. Thanks for sharing it with us.
We find that solid communication, understanding and trust forms the tighter friendship bonds. Those skills I think are muscles that need to be exercised on the regular.
Happy New Year! All the best on this journey to the 3 of you. Admirable all you've accomplished in a short time. All the good for wildlife and your community. Great voice for narrating.
This was a great overview of the property & for you & your friends, journey ! I have been following for a couple of months now, since I found this Chanel and I really Love it !
I just love this so much. My college friend and I have considered doing something like this. Its good to see the time it takes just to *find* the property. If that dream ever came true, I would want it in the same area. Best time of my life was at the local college. (But also 🤫 stop giving away one of NY’s best kept secrets! 🤭)
Everyone told us "at least two years" to find land. That turned out to be correct. But it will definitely vary. Biggest advice is just to start looking, even if to just daydream for a while. I don't know WHY it took us so long to look, but it's worthwhile to do so. And haha, yeah, cat's out of the bag. This area is great!
Amazing the work everyone has committed to the land, we’re on a family Ranch in Washington, when I moved onto the land, it lacked any landscaping, Several garden have been created, now I’m Creating a 3 tier Perm-a Culture garden, I love this approach so natural! I’ve planted many varieties of fruit trees , fruit bushes, berries, nut trees, I have chickens , ducks, horses, dogs cats, a bear and cubs that hang out the very back of the property, deer, coyotes, cotton tail rabbits, squirrels, lots of wild birds, wild ducks and geese on our pond,! And a Seasonal Creek, there’s always activity here, I have Two grown sons and their families that live in their homes on the property, my husband has a saw mill and for fun builds furniture, fences everywhere, sheds, storage sheds, wood sheds, garbage sheds, tool sheds, we have a barn, it stores horse hay, tools, and all kinds of storage, the 4 car garage has been turned into a wood shop, I have a small greenhouse, I want a big one, I’ll get it❤️I love our Rach/farm❤️yours sounds wonderful! I can my produce, smoke it and love to cook and bake!
The plan, photography, narration, music, all very well done. I too love your videos!! I too have been drawn to the Ithaca area since I was 17. I drive up almost every weekend to hike and go to the Farmers Market. In retrospect I wish I had a similar plan 40 years ago, it sounds wonderful! Good for you guys!!
Well, that was... fun! Those were some cool scenes out of your album and past videos, were a stone by stone, detailed trail of highlights, but also, a close-up trail of highlighted fascinating, details. It is certainly wonderfully calming, to drone around like a gliding bird, with the Flock. Your achievements represent unmeasurable.... effort, value which extends far into the future and of course, the more than magically presented photography. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice 'rest' this Winter and a prosperous New Year.
I loved every second of this video. A joy to watch and listen to. I will be keeping a keen eye on your progress. I garden too but on a much smaller scale. All your videos inspire me. I hope to achieve something so beautiful all be it on a smaller scale..
so happy to see your progress guys from plant one on me 4 years ago, it's been 4 years but there are so many things to do. we are excited for more projects to come especially your chicken coop. btw who is kiya?
I could be totally wrong, but might be a friend/girlfriend of Joey? They mention Ethiopia in the video, Joey photographed there and also worked with a model of the name Kiya in Ethiopia. Could be another person as well, of course.
Well a "slush fund" has a negative connotation-like something you use to bribe another. So in the most literal of sense-no, we don't have a slush fund. But together, we each decided that we would pay a monthly 'membership' fee into one account that will cover basics, like taxes, utilities, maintenance costs, and the like. There will always be those costs when you choose to buy land, so those need to be the responsibility of everyone, year over year. Obviously, when you go in as a group, those costs are naturally lowered for each individual, and becomes far more manageable. Then we also determined what we need to get done so we could all eventually live and feel comfortable here (e.g. renovate so we can all have proper bedrooms and living spaces), so then we come up with budgets for those projects and whether we need to invest more than the basics. If so, then those investments can come in many forms, like a monetary investment, time/skill investment (e.g., do the work yourself), or in-kind donation (e.g., got a donation of lumber, etc.).
I am so happy I stumbled across your channel a while back. Oddly enough, I only found you thru another video where you talked with a "gourd lady" and I was looking for information on growing them and found you. So, who as a job, how much did it all cost, and where did the money all come from? Seems a lot of vanity projects - 80,000 bulbs, flower gardens. But only two raised beds for asparagus? Lol. Can smell the trust funds and inheritances...
If that's what you can smell, then I would go see an otolaryngologist if I were you Arthur! haha. But in all seriousness, folks should know that they can do this without trust funds and inheritances, just like us. Yes, we each have our own careers and each of us currently work more than one 'job' as folks who watch this channel know, but going in on land together-though with its challenges-has a lot of rewards as well, including splitting the costs so we can all do projects that we had only at once dreamed to do.

How many members are committed thus far? It's cool but seems really risky for financial and legal reasons
