  • Whole house traps are notorious for clogging when they are old and rough on the inside. This one clogged twice in a short period of time. We told the homeowner he should have us remove it and he chose to do so! Enjoy this short video of the process involved.

    I found a amazing way to remove the lead from a hub, you cut the pipe flush with the hub and then use a hole saw to remove the lead and the pipe falls right out:)

      Lead chips and dust-lead particles are no joke.

    buildup and roughness is one issue, but the bigger issue is "low flow" everything. the toilets no longer send enough water to keep the lines cleaned out, not many people hand wash dishes and drain sinks full of water, same for taking showers instead of soaking in the tub. water usage way down, problems way up^^^

    Are the old cast iron fresh air vents no longer needed? Or do they have a vent outside in the yard?

    • @valenzaplumbing
      @valenzaplumbing  7 месяцев назад +4

      A fresh air vent is no longer needed here, because there isn’t a trap. The fresh air vent aids the flow of sewage through the house trap in an attempt to prevent temporary air lock. Hope that answers your question.

    Nice Video. Why did you go with ABS instead of PVC in this application? Thanks!

    • @valenzaplumbing
      @valenzaplumbing  7 месяцев назад

      ABS is the preferred pipe choice where we are located. We pipe everything in ABS, unless there is a repair needed to PVC piping, and even then we transition a lot of that to ABS.

    I haven’t done plumbing in a long time I would prefer to keep my house trap,but I can see it being unnecessary in certain areas, but I would still want to keep my fresh air, when you look up the definition of the fresh air it doesn’t mention anything about the house trap. not in the plumbing code in my area. I believe it was a keeps the atmospheric pressure balanced within the plumbing system or some bullshit like that. But in my case, after the hurricane the sewer is backed up, and the water went out my fresh air and not into my house, which was very nice, so I would never get rid of my fresh air.

    • @valenzaplumbing
      @valenzaplumbing  7 месяцев назад +4

      You cannot have a fresh air vent without a house trap. It’s not allowed. You would have to cap it, and it would serve as a cleanout. If your homes sewer line has a likelihood to back up during storms, then you should have a back water valve installed.

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 15 дней назад

      whole house traps date back to the time when toilets and sinks didn't have traps, they also didn't have venting out the roofs. the trap kept the street sewer gasses from coming back into the home, but obviously did nothing for your own stink-moat and sinks(lol).
      the vent could also double as an overflow if all the fixtures and holes were above it's height, it would dump outside, but often the caps are loose, missing, leaking and they've added drains/fixtures lower than the vent over the years. pretty much obsolete stupidity now days, which should be removed from any requirements and code (new/replumb), providing the building has a vent out the roof and everything is trapped.

      @@valenzaplumbing let me ask I have an expensive plumbing problem at my hands im going to have to do something soon enough. I come from the city of New York, and moved to the O.C in the state, I have house trap and the line is weak as fuck nothing like city apartments. I have a plumbing company that says remove your house trap because I have septic and that its one part of the problem with back ups in my house the u-shape and I have another person who has a great plumber license who works his own business and tells me DONT REMOVE IT AND DONT LISTEN TO THE PLUMBER FROM THE COMPANY. I need to be able to flush my toilet and not worry about what toilet tissue I flushed through it what should I do?

      @@valenzaplumbing for the record my local inspector has also eliminated the need for a house trap. This is something I have struggled with back when I was an apprentice 40 years ago because it is written that you are not allowed to have a double trap on anyting but as soon as you install a house trap everything in the house is technically a double trap. So I would ask a question with these inspectors and they would say it would protect the house. And now all these years later I mainly do residential service. And as part of my service I will do a walkthrough for my customers mainly elderly people. Also young people that just don't know. Everything from where their main shut off his furnace filters dryer vents etc etc etc. So many times I walk into the basements and there's an old toilet that has no water in it a second bathroom that hasn't been used with no water in the bathtub the sink or the toilet then I'll explain to them that once in awhile the water needs to be run in these fixtures. And you'll be surprised it only takes one or two weeks in the heating season the water in the traps have evaporated. So that being said that's why I think the house trap is very important. God bless and Fish on
