What gives me chills now is in the 2000 series, it is reveled that when Adam is calling "By the power of Grayskull" he is not calling on the castle. He is calling on the power of his dead ancestor who promised to grant any of his blood who held the swords and called his name his power to help and protect them and have their backs to fight evil. Mythos like that gets me pumped and a bit teary eyed.
What I like most about the original transformation over all the others is, how the energy explodes out of He-Man when he transforms. The other animations all give me more of a feeling that he is being infused with energy, being pumped up by hit. Whereas in the original, it feels more like he is drawing energy to himself through the sword, and then it suddenly flashes out of him as he transforms, as if it's too much energy, his raw power radiating outwards in a burst.
I remember going to the cinema to watch Masters of the Universe, back in 1987 when it came out. Man i was sooo hyped to see that movie. That scene when Dolph retrieved the sword and shouted I have the power, the entire cinema started clapping and cheering.
The transformation you're talking about belongs to the animated movie 'The Secret of the Sword'. Before Cringer becomes Battle Cat, it says, "Listen, it looks like double trouble". :-) The theme song ends like this, 'We have the power, so can you'.
Overall I think the 2003 version is the best. The transformation really stands out there because they show so many details (like the sword turning, the different light beams in the castle, his hook-weapon and *especially* Cringer's transformation into Battlecat). The original is iconic in many ways, the voice in particular, but quality wise it's not really the best.
I wish they could redo the original transformation with modern photo-real animation but just clarify the sound effects, rather than up-date. I can only speak for myself but those two sounds: The energy exploding from the Sword as it transforms Adam and the change for Cringer is PERFECT!

2:40 I hate when characters say the magic words questioningly the first time. It's so much cooler if they just KNOW the words, because they've always known them (lookin at you Stormlight)
The ThunderCats had a similar series of remakes that no matter the animation technologies of their day, never could match the original. The 80s Filmation He-Man and The Masters Of the Universe should have been the template upon which the DISASTER of the live-action movie was based on rather than trying to "reimagine" the series because they couldn't get past copyrights from Filmation to use the character assets properly.
Thanks for this, always wanted to know how He-Man evolved after the original and I was right that it was complete cringe. The only one mildly non-cringe is the last one cause it preserves the semblance of original design and with the original music it would probably be cool, but without it it's still nothing special.
I think the thing that they (being the more modern ones) miss is not only the animation style and voice work, but also a kind of purity. Basic good vs evil, and no messaging during the episode (that is for after). It is also, oddly, while stronger than superman, a character this is allowed to lose. Ay any rate, transformations scenes that do not have this majesty, are boring and lack watchability on a weekly/multiple episode basis.
I never really liked them new adventures of He-man transformation is thought it was kinda lame it should be by the power of greyskull not by the power of eternia
Like others, I think the original remains the best in drama, sound design, and visual effects. That’s kind of awesome and kind of gd sad. I’d also like to mention that I think subsequent generations have severely misunderstood his “magic words”. I says “By the power of Grayskull” to transform. He says “I have the power” because, at that point, he has the gd power. Unless the lore’s been changed, along with so many things, modern, contrary interpretations are f-ups that boggle the mind. Why have him say the second part before he actually has the power? Anyway, I like that the Netflix version kind of incorporated the various conflicting mythologies into one story. I didn’t always love the design changes but I respected most - especially Teela appearing as she did at the initial launch, as a serpentine sorceress.
@@DNOstalgia i am glad i am not the only one plus if prince Adam aka he man was going to earth would he not do it in his adam form first plus why the hell he-man was wearing a cape i mean who was he impersonating superman?!?!

Kind of splitting hairs. The castle represents the lineage.
