I am 13 and I am so obsessed with this song.. And all the oldies as well.. All the 50s songs as well. Wht has societey became these days. I hate these songs now adays.. BRING THE OLDIES BACK!!!
Yessss, this was the best era for music videos! DD broke in at the perfect time a set the trend for the most beautiful videos, and they were as beautiful as their exotic video locales! 😍
I am convinced this is definately live and it makes me happy to hear a great band singing live. My mum was a Duran Duran fan back in the day and i have inherited her tastes.
For all the musicians that wanted to knock DD....ask them to cover that Bassline with the ghost notes. Most can't do it. Incredibly complicated. Just check all the covers on RUclips and instruction videos. I still have not found one that can do it perfectly.
Ya, I love the bass line and know how hard it is to play but this performance is lip-synched so he's not actually playing it. And I've seen him play it live in other videos and he doesn't play all the ghost notes. I've yet to see him perform it live as originally recorded.
We used to knock DD Back in the days 🤣☹ but you're right... their hits are the craft of musicians. So many sections in every song, melodic too. And Take their cover of LZ's Thank You... nuff sed
This was the very performance that began my love for Duran back in 82. For the next 3-4 years, they were a big part of my life, and I crushed on Simon BIG time! Great to see it again!
@ColumRogers All the acts that uses to appear on TOTP use to have to re-record their track for the appearance-that's why it sounded different-but not always live-still miss it though!
Gaby Le Bon Rhodes Taylor I saw that, because Nick seems so serious as he is playing and keeping up with the computer screen, then he cracks that smile of his!!!!!
@dominicrusho your way off...duran duran were not a manafactured pop band. jls are manafactured and hand picked to be pop stars. duran duran have a history of forming into what they became. they are a real band who do write their material and can play live...in fact, probably one of the best live bands in the world today. most 80s bands had to have talent because thats what sold records then - unlike jls.
I was thinking the same thing but it would be hard to get people to create these kind of music and they'll be like "it's not like we're 40 or something"
Song for Rio Ferdinand (by Darren Gough on talkSPORT)- to this tune: "His name is Rio and he watches from the stand, He's been dropped for football reasons he doesn't understand, But does he really care cos every week he gets 90 grand His name is Rio and he watches from the stand."
honestly, that would amount to someone trying to find this vid just so they could dislike it. i mean this song came out 30 yrs ago. nobody found this unless they were looking for it.
two things i notice about this video: Andy Taylor is totally into it. You see Simon le Bon looking at him like: you're going well, arent you? If you look back at the video of hungry like a wolf, Andy Taylor looks a bit lost on stage, here he is almost overshadowing Simon le Bon....... Secondly at 2:20 the saxophonist starts, very enjoyable, have the idea he is on drugs.......:)
fluffy buble gum pop? the album Rio is regarded as a classic. Its a classic for many reasons, not forgetting, as you wrote, duran duran wrote the material. But the techincal craftmanship of bass, lyrics and synthesiser which as a sum provide the backdrop to the entire decade of sound that was the 1980 in the same way Oasis defined the sound of the 1990s. Duran duran are poncey, pretty boys who created heavyweight pop music of a lasting quality.
can anyone help me I was on top of the pops with Duran Duran human league undertone squeezes haha can anyone help me find out were I can get a copy of it please
Fair point. crowded house, the cure were certainly excellent - wood face. The cure had many many great tunes. In truth there was much more diversity of sounds in the 80s compared to now, and law and behold the bands actually wrote their own stuff. But duran duran were arguabley the best, most famous, talented is not science but opinion, but for many, many millions, duran duran were the 1980s. Bubblegum pop would be grossly unfair to 100 Million records, and 2.4 Million on 2005 world tour stats.
What the f*** is that bass JT is palying??? He must have left his beautiful Aria SB somewhere and had to borrow the bass from "Tears for Fears", Not nice JT - Aria can't have been happy and there's no way the headless bass would have produced such a charming sound....
frank waria actually, Andy was perfectly fine in this performance -- it was Roger who could not keep up with the changes here. I mean -- just listen to him @1:58 ... he should've been playing an E first inversion there, but instead hit a G root position. Must've had his cymbals positioned wrong or maybe was using walnut drumsticks instead of oak.
He said cherry ice cream smile
Yes!!!
thank you very much
Fantastic
John Taylor. The man who made bass players cool.
Mereka bukan saja tampan tapi berbakat. Banyak iri. Bukan hanya itu mereka briliat
So good to watch a band enjoying themselves, these days everyone is so serious.
I remember when pop music was fun. Then we skidded into the Nineties.
I am 13 and I am so obsessed with this song.. And all the oldies as well.. All the 50s songs as well. Wht has societey became these days. I hate these songs now adays.. BRING THE OLDIES BACK!!!
It’s when British pop and rich looking videos ruled the world. Wham, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Culture Club...all huge huge bands back then
Yessss, this was the best era for music videos!
DD broke in at the perfect time a set the trend for the most beautiful videos, and they were as beautiful as their exotic video locales! 😍
Andy wears an hat called "Coppola" in Italian, very cool!!
🎉❤❤ Simon 💋😻 has his Rio number one do it daddy
One of the greatest songs of the 1980's. How was this not Number One? Probably a bad idea to release it in November as it'such a summery tune.
A lot of music artist hate DD because of envy...I love all their songs and they're the pioneer of music videos.
I am convinced this is definately live and it makes me happy to hear a great band singing live. My mum was a Duran Duran fan back in the day and i have inherited her tastes.
Sorry, it's not
TOTP always had bands use playback. They had no choice.
For all the musicians that wanted to knock DD....ask them to cover that Bassline with the ghost notes. Most can't do it. Incredibly complicated. Just check all the covers on RUclips and instruction videos. I still have not found one that can do it perfectly.
LCMemphis/TCity Productions ....well said. They were talented but people wouldn't give them any credit.
Ya, I love the bass line and know how hard it is to play but this performance is lip-synched so he's not actually playing it. And I've seen him play it live in other videos and he doesn't play all the ghost notes. I've yet to see him perform it live as originally recorded.

During the early 1980's whilst listening to the radio it was John Taylor's bassline on "Rio" which me a Duranie

Esse Simon é lindo de mais. Simon is beautiful 😍
Great bassline, 80s classic, nuff said
This was the very performance that began my love for Duran back in 82. For the next 3-4 years, they were a big part of my life, and I crushed on Simon BIG time! Great to see it again!
gotta love the bass in this song
Que guapos chicos . y que buena canción. 1982
@ColumRogers All the acts that uses to appear on TOTP use to have to re-record their track for the appearance-that's why it sounded different-but not always live-still miss it though!
Drummer Roger was really fit a nd still is
All of them look so good here especially Nick♡.
The girls who comment on Le Bon being sexy do realise he doesn't look like this 25 years later!? ;-)
3:29 Nick's smile is so cute!!! 😊
Gaby Le Bon Rhodes Taylor I saw that, because Nick seems so serious as he is playing and keeping up with the computer screen, then he cracks that smile of his!!!!!
I think by this time John got an image makeover. He looks so different from 1981.
You would of wanted to be born in the 70's so you would be a teen in the 80's
il mio gruppo preferito
@a1re2 Its an headless Steinberg? They were cool in 80s..
He looks like the kid from "That 70's Show"...
yes
OMG I am drooling over Simon I Love him
Was that trumpeter an extra?
Even Though This Is The Original I Still Like The Glee Version Better ♥
timmypop1 Bite your tongue!!!!
one of the bass line s that are so original and i d k brilliant is weak word for describe ...bravo RIO ;bravo John Taylor; Bravo Duran Duran
@slyvester117: yeah, the fact he's not actually singing really enhances the experience.
Simon I see you in my dreams! ohhh
What trumpeter, do you mean andy Hamilton on saxophone?
I swear it sounds just like the original track!
It's lip synced!!!
@@themovieandmusiclover6390 I honestly didn't know I wrote this comment 12 years ago. lol
@@2fast4all 😂😂😂
i thought this song was from 1983
@cherryicecream80 What does "playback" mean?
No it's not just you.
People were more naturally good looking back then. The whole band are very cute / attractive, without being show off like Bieber!
he was so sweet. *-*
I love that chunky, beefy bass line!
That guy kicks ass!
Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand, Bump badump!
they were so hot....
i lke simon!!!!!
@pianogirl202 definitely
This song came out the same year I was born. The 80s, what an awesome time.
John playing an steinberger is something you don't see very often
Wish they still made music like this today...not all this, Justin Bieber crap, etc. :(
I was thinking the same thing but it would be hard to get people to create these kind of music and they'll be like "it's not like we're 40 or something"
I agree now we have Justin bieber crap and other people that are crap
Bellísimos Duran Duran. Thanks for your song. Great talent musical.

Top!!!
I had probably just finished my homework when I was watching this in '82.
Simon Le Bon is super HOT!!!

I love it!
I'm guessing this is dub? It's being played at the wrong speed..
sposerò Simone Le Bon ._.
Very appropriae to olympics 2016 at Rio,. This song wasnt played at the opening ceremony . Wonder if it was played at the closing ceremony
its funny on south park

Love this song her name is Rio and she dances through the land
when the fake sax solo starts at 2:20 it looks like john and roger are laughing at it
They not laughing at the sax player, they laughing at Simon as he’s miming the bird whistling/tweeting samples shortly before
@@warrenbeer4918 which one is Simon I can’t tell
@@bigevproductions
The lead singer is Simon.
One of my favorite Karaoke songs!
Non possono essere passati 30 anni.... Mi sembra davvero ieri!
@MarfachAmadan well duh- yes the name of the band is Duran Duran.
I love the song!
can anyone help me I was on top of the pops with Duran Duran human league undertone squeezes haha can anyone help me find out were I can get a copy of it please
@adds3566 This is a bonafide "band"... not a boy band.
SIMON LEBON!
Andy Taylor kinda looks like Matt Dillon in this vid lol.
@2fast4all lol it was, totp was all mimed, well most of the time
how come that bass has no headstock?
Hot!
3 dislikes? are you kidding me? what for???!!

the singer looks like a dude from nowadays, timeless style
toppppp
Fancying a man for how he used to look sounds a little creepy....
No it's not, it's a Steinberger.
The headless Status (the classic S2) has a complete different body.
I wish I was born in the 80's where singers weren't shit because they couldn't use machines to make them sound good
SunsGinger Wish to be born in the 70s, so that you could be old enough to enjoy Duran Duran and the other great 80s bands. :)
Was this the November of 1982 ... ? Do we have a precise date here...?
Always great to see J.T. and Simon leading Duran Duran
They were a bit like Abba in that you didnt want to own up you liked them and that they were good ... BUT THEY WERE.
Yeah, they're nothing like ABBA. O__o
Urko2005 not in any way they were like ABBA 😂 come on
If you listen closely, it sounds like someone is clicking a mouse the whole time
14 people where touched by jimmy savile
they are not singing live
never did on top of the pops
Mmm qué fallo... Tanta bruma no dejó apreciar al muñequito de JT!!!
Mr. Rhythm Guitar kinda loses the beat at 2:00.. :)
for tracy houldcroft RIP
My bad found out they lip synced this aw man:(
boy bans band from the 80's but played all their own instruments, not like the dancing fariys nowadays
I noticed andy isn't playing the right chords in the chorus........he is playing/strumming the rhythm part...why?
Top of the Pops is always pre-recorded
as in lip synched

This has to be genuinely live it sounds different to the audio version. But it's amazing LOL Duran Duran still rock today.
Unfortunately, it wasn't composed in honor to the city... that's why!!! hahahaha
