Awesome video! My wife and I returned from Paris last week. We purchased tickets for Le Calife and Moulin Rouge a month in advance, but got timed tickets for the Louvre and Versailles the night before from their official websites and actually got in early to each. We visited the Eiffel Tower and decided to go up to the top after we arrived and it only took about 30 minutes from getting in line until we were on the elevator. I guess we got lucky.
I think you did get lucky. It's usually a lot busier this time of year. But because we're between the olympics and the para-olympics, a lot of tourists preferred to come after September 15.

Always terrific information, Colleen and Antoine! I do try to stay awake the first day in order to sync my body clock with the country I am visiting. It is a challenge the first day but well worth it for the remainder of trip. And absolutely true to keep my schedule very simple the first two days in a country --- one attraction -- walk around the city and getting into bed at a reasonable hour. Great to see you both and cheers from NYC on this rainy Saturday morning!

I only have two minor regrets about being in Paris…since my first trip was in 1988, I didn’t have the luxury of planning my trip(s) with your help and excellent valuable guidance…( we were even afraid of how to leave Gard du Nord station since we didn’t know “sortie” was French for exit…the other regret is I finally realized I can never go back…at 79, the long lines, stairs and complete days of walking would be impossible 😢…and sadly, I never experienced a “naughty “ nap since my thirteen trips, I traveled there with my sister or best friends!!!🤭🤭…as an aside, Colleen you look lovely and carefree in Summer pictures!!! Though I couldn’t figure out what was missing until I realized, no red scarf😂
How interesting about power nap… I’ve learned the hard way that’s this is the worst thing I can do - to take a Power Nap after the flight. I would wake up groggy and then be fine but will suffer from the jet lag the entire week of my travel. But if instead I would power through the day without napping, I’ll crash by the end of the day at about 8/9pm, sleep like a baby 12 hours straight and then will have absolutely no jet lag for the rest of the trip. That’s how I trained my family too. 😅 But of course I do recognize that it might work differently for everyone. So true about doing proper work before traveling! I always do, yet every time I have this “I wish I knew” feeling 🤷🏼♀️ Last time it was a Dior exhibit we’ve missed.

I always book and by my tickets online from the website that belongs to the museum/theatre/exhibition itself. This goes for all countries and cities all over the world. I then print the tickets, and download them online as well. I have never failed. 😎🖤👍
Another tip: check online to see if some attraction you want to visit is going on strike on certain days -- or if the transit option you're taking to get there is going on strike. Strikes are far more common in France than in the u.s.
Excellent timing! My BFF & I will be visiting in October & have been talking about the “wheres, whens & hows” of the sites we want to see, & it’s getting down to the wire for booking those tickets. I especially appreciate the explanation about Viator & Get Your Guide!

It will be interesting to hear whether you feel pre-booking in October paid off; I went in mid-September and didn't have any ticket lines for Le Louvre or d'Orsay (sp?) but its been a few years and things change.
Fantastic video! The best advice Les Frenchies gave us before our trip was where to enter Le Louvre. The main entrance at the pyramid was a very long wait. We went through the Carousel entrance and were inside Le Louvre at our timed entry in 5 minutes!

A Recommendation - When traveling, especially OVERSEAS, consider ONE day for travel, and ONE day for "recuperation" (from jet lag). When I arrive on the continent, I always give the first day over to light walking around the city, window shopping, hanging out in parks, etc (nothing planned) to allow for the jet lag (and my GI system) to recover.
Pace yourself.
We went to Paris last summer and, while we had an amazing time, I so wish I had discovered your videos before we went. We definitely made some of these mistakes. I just tell myself, now that I’m hooked on your videos, we’ll just be that much more prepared next time!
Another great informational video. This is a must watch channel for anyone wanting to visit Paris.👍 I visited Paris back in the 90's and now sadly it looks like crowds of people everywhere in comparison to what I remember of that trip.
We studied and researched 18 months before our trip. Booked our flights exactly at 330 days out. Booked our apartment 1 year out. Booked our major tour tickets directly through the vendors. Coming from the US we did have trouble with purchasing with US credit cards but with a switch to my vpn, no problem. Antoine, you and Colleen are true French Ambassadors 🇫🇷

First, you both look marvelous! The first time I went to France with a friend, I bought travel books and we got together to plan out what we wanted to see in each city (Paris, Tours and Nice) and made sure we both got to do what we were interested in & whether we both went to an attraction or split up and met later. That way no one felt "cheated" and we didn't over-schedule ourselves.

When me and my parents went to the Louvre last June we were able to move to the front of the line because my dad walks with a cane. As we were waiting for the attendant to assist us there were two different women who made rookie mistakes. The first one didn't buy her tickets in advance and the other bought her "ticket" from a website called Pay box and was told it wasn't an authorized website. She started panicking and was like "Are you saying I got scammed!? My family's in line right now I need to get in today!!"

My tip for restaurants: If you can see that they have menus posted in multiple languages, do yourselves a favor and keep walking.
Glad you mentioned the Paris Museum Pass. I highly recommend it. I don't think you mentioned this, but when you have one of these passes, you arrive at the museum and then CUT RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE LINE of people waiting to get it. That alone is MAJOR!!!!
You should have a strategy when you use this pass. This is how it worked out for me on a visit:
Day 1 - Our larger destination was the National Museum of Modern Art, located in the Centre Pompidou; the smaller one was the Picasso-Paris National Museum. The latter is not exactly small, especially since the expansion that doubled its size between 2009 and 2014.
Day 2 - We got a tour of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, which we counted as the major site for the day, considering how much queueing up we had to do, and how much waiting time it took. The smaller locations, on the same island as Notre-Dame, within an easy walking distance, were the Crypte Archéologique du Parvis, where the original ramparts of the island were discovered in 1965; Conciergerie, the first royal palace (under King Philip the Fair), which also eventually served as a palace of justice and then a prison during the French Revolution, and hiding place of Marie-Antoinette; and Sainte-Chapelle, a building with an upper and a lower chapel, housing magnificent stained glass windows in the Gothic style.
Day 3 - Our major museum was the magnificent Musée d’Orsay, a stunning building that had once been a train station and now houses vast works by the Impressionists, as well as Art Deco furnishings and galleries for short-term exhibitions. Our smaller location was the Arc de Triomphe, where we climbed our way to the top in order to see the views.
Day 4 - Because Versailles is located outside of Paris, takes a fair amount of travel time in each direction, and attracts huge crowds to its building and grounds, that became our sole destination for the day.
Day 5 - We divided our time among three smaller locations: Musée des Arts décoratifs, a design museum that is housed within the confines of the Louvre, but with a separate entrance and entry fee; the Rodin Museum; and the Panthéon, final resting place of many French notables.
Day 6 - We began by visiting the Musée de l’Orangerie, principally to see the large expanses of paintings with Monet’s water lilies. It’s a relatively small museum. From there, we decided that my partner Kevin could not leave Paris without at least seeing the interior of the Louvre. We had no intention of trying to see the whole place - just a few of the highlights.
When I added up all the individual prices I would have paid on separate visits, I got a grand total of €157.50. Do the math and compare that to the €74 cost of the six-day pass.

Was in France in June. 5 days in Normandy, 5 in Paris. I booked through Viator for an Eiffel Tower tour. She was very good. Yeah DO NOT underestimate jet lag. I arrived at 130PM in Paris. Drove to Normandy. Stopped in Rouen to sight see. Got to my hotel around 10PM. My head hit the pillow at 1045. I thought since I was going to bed so early, I would not need to set an alarm...yeah I woke up at 1130am. Luckily, I anticipated jet lag, and everything I planned to see that day was very close to my hotel, and each other. But as you pointed out in your last point, do your research! I agree. I cannot stress this enough. I travel alone, and this was my first time in another country...let alone a country where I barely speak the language. Knowing this, I did A LOT of research, and was very meticulous in my planning..Which I think is why things went as well as they did. Yeah I shifted some things in my schedule around a little bit, but overall, the research massively paid off. I did get sick my 2nd day in Paris though, and was out of commission for the rest of the trip... I do want to go back to Paris in the off season to hit stuff I missed out on.

Also keep in mind that a lot of museums are free for EU citizens under the age of 26, including Louvre, Versailles and Musée d'Orsay.

I have a question regarding the 48 Hour Museum Pass. According to the website, the pass activates when you first scan the pass at an attraction. So from the moment of the scan, do you have 48 hours? For instance, if I were to visit the Arc de Triumph on a Sunday afternoon, can I use it to visit the Palace of Versailles on Tuesday morning?
I'm trying to binge watch your videos but they are so packed with information, I'll have to dissect them slowly. I am going to Germany to visit my son in October so we thought we'd do a short trip to Paris. 2 days of travel and 2 days for the Versailles and Eiffel Tower. What hotel do you recommend to visit both? I live in California so I'm not rich but yet not broke.

I've been lucky so far, when getting tickets. Not had any issues. In fact, when a change was made for one (no longer a private group), I got a partial refund because the group was bigger. I'm going to take your advise for next time and buy directly from the attraction.

Another great video but FYI, Versailles only allows 90 days in advance. Just experienced it.
People who don’t plan and just wing things make me cringe. I have ADHD and if I don’t plan things then everything will fall apart. Don’t be spontaneous, plan everything. I can’t stand spontaneity. Don’t just go. Plan!

Definitely no need to be nervous. Lots of people travel here solo every year. We even have a private group just for solo female travelers. Like anywhere else, be mindful if your surroundings. But this is a great place for solo. Bon voyage!
Thank you for this video. You definitely need to reserve museum tickets well in advance - like at least a month ahead - even at museums like Fondation Louis-Vuitton. Also, concert tickets need to be reserved as well (I thought my tickets for a Hilary Hahn concert would be easy, because I was making reservations three months in advance, and it was off-season. They were already sold out!) Also, one of my Parisian friends told me to go to the museums on the first Sunday of every month because they were free. Unfortunately, every other Parisian family knows about this and they are usually completely sold out - even off-season. 😢

oh man if i took any kind of nap after arriving i'd be asleep all day. you have to power through that first day and get to bed semi-early. i once took a nap after arriving and never got over the jetlag.

Bonjour! Thank you for all of your great videos. I would appreciate a video or just some advice (I will be in France in 2 months) on how to order from a fromagerie, vegetable stand or a boucherie. Say, for a picnic or apero.
Do you order by the gram or pieces? Are employees typically helpful if you ask for suggestions on types of meat and cheese?
It depends on the cheese ! Some by grams, some by the piece. Yes, they typically assist that's the reason we go there and not supermarkets from time to time, however please note that many shopkeepers might not speak English well (especially if it's a family owned shop and the clerk is not a youngster). You can translate upfront on an app, and they will help what you are looking for. If you want to avoid the 'hassle' please feel free to roam supermarkets alleys which already provide a great deal of cheeses and charcuterie. However, by all means, do not buy your baguette in supermarkets, the quality is really inferior.
