I have stuck a copper strip onto the face of mine with a few spots of superglue. Now I can discharge capacitors quickly before insertion.

got one off ali express for ten bucks.. no instructions. This video exactly what I needed thanks!

Thank you, this was very useful and instructive, especially because the tester comes without any instructions. I particularly like the fact that you gave all the salient facts without waffling. Great video.

I'd strongly recommend adding a small battery switch to isolate it as this takes a constant drain and the battery dies, as I discovered. I replaced it with a larger battery. The TC 7 and others are the same. The case has enough room for a micro toggle switch

The "extra pins" are actually for calibration.

This really is incredible for the price. I’m going to get the TC2 version of this, basically the same but slightly upgraded.

What a tester! It's amazing what all, and how fast it reads them.

    Thanks for the review!
I have an older version of this from a few years ago. I forget where I got it know, but it came as a kit and was clear plastic. Unfortunately mine doesn't have the IR, which is worth it to me just to upgrade. Also mine looks like it came from the 60s, compared to the new streamlined model.
Anyone who tinkers with electronics needs one of these.

Great video (thumbs up). I didn't see an ESR value during the one capacitor test you did. I actually was looking for a simple ESR tester when I found this product, so while I love what this does, the ESR measurement is important to me.

Hmm so the letters and numbers on mosfets on my motherboard are not legible anymore so this might come in handy when trying to buy a new mosfets.

Those three pins aren't for replacement, they're used to calibrate the tester( although I don't recommend using it because it has a big parasitic capacitance making the calibration useless).

Not sure why I would ever need one, but hey..... It's a tool thing.

Can it also test in-circuit meaning, can it test transistors, FET, Tyristors, while the component is still in a circuit?
    Can it test Tyristors?

What is the difference between LCR T1 and LCR T7?

  • @SCRIDify

Ok so what happens if you plug a failed transistor, or capacitor into it? Will it tell you the component is defective?

My tester is showing some of my capacitors to be resistors instead of capacitors. Does that mean that the capacitor is broken?

Don't test higher than 4.5 V though, to not damage it.

Can it test components on the board?

I build tube amps and bought one for testing cap esr. I have a lot of cheap poly film caps. The rust colored radial ones. They are all testing 10 ihms. Im of the understanding that esr on a good cap should be below 1 ohm. Some caps wont show an esr reading at all. I've watched many videos on this tester, and one shows a similar tester along side of this one. They test the same cap and get wildly different esr readings . Then the guy says ok they both test within tolerance.
    So confusing..
Is this tester useless for esr testing ??

I just clicked on a Harbor Freight email and it said "New Tool Tuesday".
I think they stole it from you.
