  • The luxurious private lives of the world’s most notorious dictators have been shrouded in mystery-- but today we’re going to uncover their most lavish spending habits. These dictators had power, influence, and money beyond your wildest dreams. They had secret palaces and hidden islands all over the world. They drove luxury vehicles and bought weapons made of solid gold. From Rolexes to yachts, and hunting lodges to bulletproof trains, this is how five famous dictators spent their fortunes.

    Gadaffi is leagues ahead of the rest in terms of wealth. However, relatively speaking, North Korea is the poorest country on earth with a population starving so the dictator's wealth, lifestyle and diet is pretty obscene and disgusting.

      You're right, life in North Korea is literally like living in hell for most. They're kept in a state of starvation and forced to do slave labour. It's also well known that most of North Korea's wealth comes from making crystal meth and also forced slave labour camps used by Russia and other rogue States...most of the poor countries GDP is spent on the rocket missiles/military and the dictators lifestyle. Ordinary people have no quality of life at all some forced to eat grass and earth worms in bad harvest years. It's a total illusion of a functional country for tourists who visit there. Shopping centres, hotels and streets built just for show, not used by the regular population.

    To be fair to Castro and his watches. Rolex back then weren't the super expensive posh brand they are known as today, they were well built tool watches. This is also long before any quartz watches. So having a Rolex known for its excellent time keeping and toughness while living rough in the cuban mountains pre revolution kinda makes sense.

    • @brucemarsico6
      @brucemarsico6 Год назад +27

      That wasn't the point of the story. While the majority of the cuban people were (are) living in poverty, mr. castro festooned himself with expensive watches...way beyond the reach of the average cuban. mr. castro was a liar and lived a sumptuous over the top decadent life style...so in contrast to his public 'image', that of the liberator living like his countrymen. I remember when his riches were revealed, mr. castro went into a rage and vehemently denied having such a large fortune...proves that he did indeed have an incredible amount of money and property. More decadent and extravagant than mr. batista....
      A yacht belonging to one of mr. castros grandchildren was seen docked in the greek isles...luxury sailing while so many of his fellow cubans are trying to get to florida on leaking rowboats..

      I don’t know what you are talking about. My dad was an entrepreneur in his time. He became fairly wealthy and liked some of the things they mentioned there, including watches. He bought a Rolex in the early ‘70s and he paid around $3k then. He later bought one for my mom and that one was about $6k. $9k in the early 70s was a lot of money. For context, the average price of a car was around $4k. So yeah, Castro was spending money he did not have.

Also, not divulged in this...during 1959 the homes of the wealthy were plundered by the revolutionaries, so, who knows? Perhaps those two watches belonged to someone who fled Havana and had to leave valuables behind. Or, during the revolution in 1959 bank safety deposit boxes were forced opened and the jewels, watches, property deeds and other valuables were taken. Havana was a sumptuous and wealthy city, much was stolen, like art objects, never seen again...but someone knows......
