Thought I should give the community a little tip. I use a Corsair RM1000x Shift PSU and my PNY 4090 XLR8 had crazy loud coil whine when connected to a Apex Encore motherboard with my RM1000X Shift. I returned my motherboard because I didn't know it lacked integrated graphics before purchasing. I switched to Z790 Dark Hero and kept my same PSU and now my PNY is whisper quiet. I think there is better power deliver components on the Dark Hero vs the Apex Encore.
Thank you so much for this video, been waiting to get the actual measurements, mostly because I'm looking to make a costume 3D printed shroud with bigger fans, many thanks again
Thank you for watching and helping me improve these videos!
Very helpful video
Thanks for your comment 🙏 I am glad I did this extra video to show the Deshroud. It's something I look for now everytime I teardown a video card.
Can the frame the fans are attached to be removed from the heatsink fins? Or is the frame welded or riveted?
I'm considering creating an entirely new fan system. Thanks.
Thanks for your comment 🙏 I didn't reply earlier because I didn't know for sure. I still don't (the shroud is packed away), but if I remember correctly, everything was basically removable. I don't think it was riveted. I think there was still plastic parts attaching the fan. I stopped at just the deshroud. Hope that helps.
Do you know if you can remove this plastic that is in the middle of the cooler?
Thanks for your comment 🙏Which plastic are you referring to? If I recall correctly, I removed all in the video that should be removed.
Would two aftermarket aircoolers attached improve temps in these gpus?
Thanks for your comment 🙏 Do you mean if we took off the 3 fans and replaced them with larger and better fans? If I had to venture a guess, think it would incrementally improve performance. I actually was able to zip tie on I think 3 Noctua fans (two 120mm and a 92mm in the middle) for the video but took some footage and realized it just didn't look good, so I cut that content. But I do think it would improve performance. The stock fans are fine for what it is, but the fans that a lot of consumers buy for cases and radiators are substantially better in many regards. Hope that helps
Sweet I might just take the shroud off so I dont have any pubescent lights anymore
Thanks for your comment 🙏 Hope the video helps. It is good to hear that it may be useful. I made the extra video because I was getting similar questions about the deshroud all the time. It's good because then I will plan to include a deshroud (if able to) now on all the future teardowns.
In your experience what model of RTX 4090 is easier to disassembly to install waterblock?
Thanks for your comment 🙏 So far I have disassembled an 4090 FE, PNY 4090 and a TUF 4080. I can give me thought on them relative to their disassembly as follows:
4090 FE - built with a design requirement that there are no screws are showing. So, starting the disassembly requires poking a latch to remove a cover, revealing the first set of screws. Some of the screws are Phillips head and some are Torque. Further, there are 3 cables to unplug and they are unique to the FE and smaller and thinner than typical. So, there are a variety of things that makes this disassembly a bit different (poke the latch, torque screws, small thin cables). But if someone has the tools (a torque screw, a poker) and knowledge of the disassembly, then it's not much more difficult than the others noted below.
PNY 4090 - built in a manner that has been done before and makes sense, fairly consistent with some of their past offerings. All Philips head screws. Accessible cables.
TUF 4080 - design is custom to ASUS. All Philips head screws. Accessible cables.
The PNY and the ASUS TUF are comparable in disassembly. None are overtly difficult with the right tools and instructions. Hope that helps.
@@vectornetwork i have doubts to choose between Asus and PNY for my future RTX 4090, i have a Asus TUF RTX 3080 and i know what to expect but the PNY is cheaper in my country.
I hate how the video cuts around like that
Thanks for your comment 🙏I agree and I have heard similar comments. In my most recent 4-5 videos I have taken efforts to reduce the cutting to make it more watchable. I appreciate the feedback and will continue to make best efforts to improve the videos.
One of my fans won’t come on what should I do?
Thanks for your comment 🙏 Hm, did you check for any blockage? Have you tried to gently spin it to start it up? Is the GPU on full load?
@@vectornetwork just an update I bought a replacement fan off fanatics and it works fine again
