    I just saw one of these at Walmart for $14 bucks and bought it. Wow, this is a high quality piece! Beautiful. I have 3 Remco Lost in Space robots that seem to be in the same scale. RIP robot inventor, Robert Kinoshita.

    You are an amazing guy! What happened to guys like us when we were young that make us gravitate to perform such artistry such as what you've done to your Robby? I have never been able to get any of my four kids into modeling. They would walk by my hobby room, modeling bench and 600 unbuilt kits and not even look. I'll never understand. (One of those kids became a Dr. Two others became military men and the last one forestry major.) I think you are simply the best! Warm Regards, Larry W. Ocala, Florida :)

    I went to my local Walmart last night after watching the previous video, and picked one up. With watching your video when you talked about the problems with the lighting when it talked, it came in very handy because I picked up the one that was in sync. Thank you for that.

    My father owned the original Robby toy and always regretted tearing it apart when he was a kid to use for parts. He was very excited to discover this modern version at Walmart, so excited in fact, he surprised me with one for Christmas.

  • @AvengerII

    The guy who designed Robby the Robot is the same designer of the original Robot from Lost in Space and the menacing Tobor. Japanese-American Robert Kinoshita. He's passed away now.
    He was unfortunately interned with a lot of other Japanese-Americans during World War II but retained his creative spirit and designed 2 of the greatest robots anybody ever has -- The Robot and Robby. Just doing one of those 2 robot designs would have impressed me but TWO--! These designs are classic but TIMELESS, too. They haven't aged so much that they're not still kinda modern but they're retro. Does that make sense?!? (Same thing's happened with the Refit version of the Enterprise/NCC-1701 from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.) Among real-life machinery, the SR-71 falls into this category of Classic and Timeless but STILL Modern and Relevant design. That are not many things imagined and drawn onto paper and crafted in real life that hold up this well.
    Robby is practically a perfect design like the other vehicles and robots I mentioned.
    I tell you -- with the exception of R2-D2 (and perhaps the robots in Disney's The Black Hole) and Maria/Galatea from Metropolis/1927, most of the great robot designs have been created by Japanese designers. The original 1980s Transformers, the Gundam mobile suits, the variable fighters from Macross/Robotech, Mazinger Z, and so, so many other classic mech shows. It's gotta be something in the soil of Japan!

    As I recall, the robot's body was a slight brass color. I think it's more visible in newer prints of the film. Maybe it was just reflecting the color of the landscape on Altair IV.
    When he walks I wonder if he has to do the "rhumba" to remain balanced. I think he'd look better keeping his body still.

  • @legiontheatregroup
    @legiontheatregroup 10 месяцев назад

    Hi, this is really not a reissue of the Trendmasters Robbie of the 1990s. I have both of them, both since new. The WalMart Robbie is significantly larger scale and therefore must be using all new molds and tooling. It does replicate the same walking motion as the smaller Trendmasters version, and as they credit Trendmasters on the box I am guessing they licensed their animation, but I wouldn't consider this a reissue as no body parts are the same. Everything is much larger. The Trendmasters Robbie looks about to scale with an 8” human action figure (I’m old school so thinking of Action Jackson) while the WalMart Robbie looks better paired with a 12” human figure (GI Joe).
