  • Another jumping lesson from a couple of months ago! It had been a while since I’d jumped Roger over poles, so I really enjoyed this lesson back in the summer! Unfortunately due to the heatwave in the UK, we couldn’t really use the grass jumping paddock for most of the summer months as the ground was too hard, so in this lesson we did some fun grid exercises instead, with a pop over a spread at the end.
I was really pleased with how different Roger felt in his jumping by the end of this lesson, compared to the start. Roger tends to try and speed through grids as quickly as he can, which often results in him either taking half-strides out or occasionally stopping on the way in because he’s not had enough time to see the new scary fillers that have been added (as seen in this ride 🙃), but after popping down some lines on both reins, and missing out different jumps within the grid to keep him listening & thinking, he started waiting for me to tell him when/what we were jumping instead of racing through blindly.
The spread at the end gave me a chance to feel just how well the grid had helped us both and I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve personally felt Roger jump as well as he did over that final spread in years! I also felt a lot happier with my riding, waiting for the fences to come to me (something I really struggle with) instead of panicking and pushing for a dodgy longer stride.
🚨For a bit of balance, I would appreciate it if anyone leaving rude or negative criticism/tips/advice would also donate at least £1 to a charity of their choice 😊
QOTD: If you could only pick one, would you rather jump grids or spreads for the rest of your life?

    ⬇️ FAQs ⬇️
🔵 DO YOU OWN THE HORSES & PONIES IN YOUR VIDEOS?
No, all the horses & ponies belong to a lovely riding school, or are working liveries at the same yard.
🔵 WILL YOU EVER GET YOUR OWN HORSE?
I would love to own a pony one day, but for now I am more than happy having weekly lessons on the fantastic riding school horses & ponies.
🔵 WHY DO YOU ALWAYS JUMP THE SAME HEIGHT?
These riding school ponies usually jump more than once a week, and sometimes more than once a day, so we don’t jump ‘big’ except on special occasions to ensure the ponies stay sound and live long, happy lives. Fence height has very little to do with jumping technique or experience.
🔵 HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RIDING FOR?
I’ve been having weekly lessons in riding schools for 16 years now!
🔵 IF YOU’VE BEEN RIDING FOR SO LONG, WHY DON’T YOU COMPETE?
I have no personal interest in competing or jumping huge tracks. I ride for fun, simple as that!
🔵 WHY ARE THE HORSES ALREADY TACKED UP WHEN YOU APPROACH THEM?
This is a busy riding school & livery yard and so the lesson horses are tacked up by the staff who work there to ensure they are ready to leave the yard on time and have been tacked up correctly.
🔵 DO THE HORSES STAY TACKED UP 24/7?
No. The horses are only tacked up right before their lessons and spend the rest of their time turned out in grass fields.
🔵 WHO IS ROBIN FROM YOUR VIDEOS?
Robin is my mum and she rides with me in my lesson every week. She's 64 and fearless as ever!

I've always wanted to learn bounces, none of my tutors every taught me how to sit them so the one time i tried i fell and actually fractured my finger (so i had to leave to get it looked at rather than carrying on) lol
