- Cannelton Locks and Dam Lockmaster, Neal Schwartz, has been with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District for 20 years. His day begins early with a check of the river gauges, ensuring conditions are safe for navigation. From there, Neal dives into a wide range of tasks, from managing the facility and its team to overseeing daily cleaning and upkeep.
His role is vital, ensuring private and commercial traffic moves safely and efficiently through the locks on the Ohio River. "Not only do we manage the day-to-day, but we manage the future, nobody wants to see this river shut down," said Schwartz.
Hard work is second nature for Schwartz, and he loves the work he does at Cannelton Locks and Dam.
“Everybody has a liking for something, and the Corps is my liking. I love working for the Corps.”
