Just watched this again. Still one of the best drum shop videos. Fun to watch because both guys are really enthusiastic and the drumming from both is superb. I would happily jam on either kit. The Bubinga is super exciting for that extra “growl”. Need to return to the shop next time I’m in Brighton to check out the gear. 🥁🔥

It goes to show, it's all about who's playing the drum. White shirt sounds great on both, but really shined when he got on the Bubinga kit. Both great drummers, but white shirt guy has a more natural groove. I'm a huge Bubinga collector. 100% Bubinga bass, with B/B toms sound incredible

I have a Starclassic Bubinga kit in cream with inlays. I will never need another kit. The snare that came with it is a 13 bubinga and it’s amazing. Also have a starclassic omnitune bubinga 14 x 6.5 and it is a BEAST
which drum heads do you use on toms ?
BB’s are king. Tama starclassic bb’s with meinl cymbals is just the perfect sound for me. Won’t ever play anything but those. Also I just love how punchy and aggressive bb’s are. You can tell a big difference compared to the maple. The maples are more versatile and warmer but if your going for low end attack and punch you can’t beat bb’s or full Tama bubinga. I know drumcenter of Portsmouth already did a comparison video but you guys should do a comparison between the Tama starclsssic birch/bubinga and the Tama starclassic walnut/birch just like this video. Also the birch bubinga kit is also undrilled. The tom mount post doesn’t actually penetrate through the bass drum, the pipe just goes into that base platform on top of the bass drum but unlike lower end kits or other brands, Tama came up with that awesome little idea and it’s amazing for me since I prefer double Tom bass drum mounts compared to mounting toms on cymbal stands.
I'll take one of the Maple Starclassics. Sound great, but not quite as good as the BB, and not even close to the MIJ Bubinga. The Maple kits have gotten ridiculously expensive
Why do these geniuses have to show us how good they are instead of showing us how the drums sound with crashes,hh play, or snare solos? Play the damn toms individually slow fills so we can hear the tone and resonance

Tunning is completely different, maybe also different heads? Its not so helpfull this way.
I've been wanting to afford one of these since high school 18 years ago. And I still can't afford a set.

It's all in the heads and tuning, shell material imparts next to no tone changes. Shell thickness, dimension, and bearing edge geometry are what determine the sound. If these drums were identical in every way except for the wood type, you wouldn't hear any difference. it's all marketing hype, and it completely useless. You could make shells out of a tree in you yard, and they would be the same as the most exotic wood you could name. Obviously they would look different, but that doesn't matter when they're covered in a wrap anyway.

The link is a playlist of dw drums, each one made of a different wood, the heads, tuning, and recording process are exactly the same. Hats off to DW for doing the test, but all the woods sound identical. Give a few of them a listen, the most I can hear are very slight overtone differences. It might just be my ears, or my speakers, and of course I haven't heard them in person so there may be differences not recorded. I think there's merit in preferring a certain wood for appearance, or durability, but the use of incredibly rare woods is unethical, other than for a natural veneer.
Imo maple sounds way better
