Came to the series late and actually watched it in the wrong order ! However it’s so pleasing to see the transformation of the car but also more importantly how happy you are with the results you deserve it be safe out there and enjoy it !
Without going as far as destructive testing, we've found that a lot of hard used S55s back the crank bolt out, hence a capture plate can be a great addition. No defence for that on yours it seems?
Great to see the update and development for the OMP M2 after months and glad that it will be back on the road soon. Now I am contemplating whether I should change my crank hub at 20,000km before it gives problem. But I was told that only modded S55 will give crank hub issue and if I maintain stock form it is unlikely to break.😅
Crankhub issue is completely blown out of proportion. Unless you tune it's a waste of money. Joe's case is different however as the engine was already out etc.
Completely untrue. My wife missed a shift in our bone stock 2021 M2 Comp (31,000 miles) last weekend and that poorly designed crank hub slipped and jumped the timing in the car. Fortunately no bent valves but we are performing this exact same hub upgrade right now. Had I known about this issue prior it’s the first thing I would have changed out. Might be slightly less likely if you don’t have a manual gearbox, but we do.
So glad to see OMP back on its feet once again! Worth noting that despite the money shift event, this could have happened to the car at any moment, particularly when it was being driven hard and even more so when it was remapped. Anyone looking to properly use and or upgrade their S55 powered M car should prioritise this upgrade before any other for very obvious reasons.
Did you know the GT4 cars run the stock crank hub? Lots of track/race cars run stock crank hub. If you speak to Litchfield/Wrigley/German autowerks they'll tell you that unless going for huge power it's fine stock.
@@samellio that much is obvious as it’s how the cars come from BMW, regardless of whether it’s a road car or a race car. For a race team to replace an engine is nothing, it’s different for end consumers and people have spun crank hubs at stock power and torque levels. There is no harm whatsoever in doing the work before it becomes an issue as the moment it does become an issue, your engine is toast anyway. Bully for all those race teams but if they lose a motor they’ll have a new one in by the very next day.
@@ShogunsDojo the harm is a bill of over 2k which in over 99% of cases isn't necessary. Even if it does spin, it most cases it doesn't ruin the engine. If it were a failure point in racing, it would be upgraded. It's not a failure point. Random people on the internet say to get it done, people worth listening to say it's only necessary when running big power.
If you are doing to the time and effort of dry ice cleaning… coat everything with Bilt Hamber Dynax UC clear wax, it will stop corrosion coming back for years otherwise your car will look worse after the first winter than it did before 👍
I see you have the 50 year anniversary hoody Joe, so glad to see. I thought I was the only one 😂. I've never seen anyone else in one. I got mine at Goodwood Need for Speed the year before.
Get the full CSF cooling pack (Charge cooler, Heat exchanger radiator, DCT cooler and oil cooler). Seeing as it’s a clubsport build a stage 1 ECU tweak will not over power the car and it’s more than capable of handling the power.
10k miles and the crank hub is shot, absolutely unreal. I do not blame you for using an aftermarket solution to fix it. However, I question the longevity of this solution because of the 4 point drilling into the crank. I would like to see how the tolerances for the drilling was calculated. A minor mistake in these tolerances after a long period of time and it's going to be "explosive". I hope my S58 won't turn out to have such major engineering mistakes as prior engines.
The crank hub is a common issue on the S55, I’ve had two N55’s at 330 whp and never had an issue even with miss shifts (they were both manual) BMW solved that all with the B58 so the S58 should be okay - the Redbull racing brothers did over 100 000 km on 900hp drifting with no crank hub issues. (Yes mods with some stock block parts)
Surprised you haven’t gone for “ a little bit more power” when so much is available with a relatively small amount of work to achieve it ? Are you running standard M2C power 400 and change? Same engine in the M2cs has an extra 40hp. Why not to take that at least…..😊
I cannot believe how they would design it that spinning a crank hub is even a possibilty. Massive quality issues those years. Luckily it seems these days the engines are getting better again, but now the design department has lost its mind!
Doing some Joe Achilles catching up, i've got a lot to do!
So, look forward to seeing the results - big up Swift!!
Great to see an update on the M2, don't burn yourself out mate
Thanks Richard, taking Jan/Feb very easy 🙏

Thats all good news and good to know you M2 have been refurbished and built stronger. Hopefully we get to see more track days ahead.
👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
Glad to see your M2 hitting the on-ramp to recovery! You're lucky to have such a competent shop available.
Great to see M2 OMP nursed back to health. Bring on the track days!
I can't wait.... 🏁
Wow, what a journey so far with M2C comp. Great that you can see the end of the tunnel now!
Very good news!
I'm glad it's near completion
Me too!

Lookin' forward to the M2 content, again!
Great to see my Reason why i got myself an M2 competition getting back to life!
Great to hear, hope you're loving yours!
Great to see fabian at a serious company! Did some work on my car when he was at deutsch tech!
The M2c makes its welcome return 👏
Only weeks away now 🙂
Missed this little beast on the channel..great to see the M2 Comp again..can't wait to see it on track

Cheers man, Fabian is a legend!
Great to see the M2 back .
Hope you are feeling well .

Thanks 👍
I was wondering what happened to OMP Joe! Thanks for the update, can’t wait for it to be back up and running on the Channel 😎
You and me both!
Looking forward to seeing her back on the road and track
Me too buddy 👊
Woohooo! Great to see M25 OMP going back together!
Great content as usual... glad to see the M2 back ..
Us too!
Great video Joe if you think the UK winters are tough you really should see a Canadian car after just one winter your head may spin at the sight.
Yikes 😮
I'm glad she's on her way back to full health!
Good informative video. Haven't watched your videos for sometime...that's just life... but forgot how good you are at this. Keep up the good work 👍
I appreciate that!
Great to see the M2 back on the channel mate. Hope you’re feeling okay and fully on the road to full health.
Thanks man, hopefully on the mend soon....
Happy days!! Hope to see you on track with it 😎
Can't wait!
Glad to see a positive update! Funny to see the S55 outside the car….I mean….it looks like it will never fit! 😉🍻

I got the same, M2 competition with a M2 CS tune, no crank hub fix, lots of track days, let’s see how long it lasts 😅
Liked before watching 😀
The return! Been waiting ages for this!!
Nice to see the M2 update! Lovely ! Not sure about that hat! 😂
😅

Agree to ecu tweak and other enhancements.
You mention DCT?
Will be nice to have it back. If it's not too painful for you will you reveal the cost of the repairs ?
I look forward to seeing you and the M2 on track again! 🎉🎉🎉
You and me both!
Be a great car this when it’s back out 💪
Looong 6 months was only thinking other day what’s happening with this being a fellow S55 owner 😅
Need a sequential shifter to sort the money shift
❤👊
Good luck to you
What power you running now Joe🤔
im not sure its a good idea to use the arp rod bolts on stock rods but hope im wrong
Dont forget to Remove your Money shifter joe 👍
Why not change the piston heads.
Wanting to be future proof ?

He literally money shifted it, nothing would have saved the engine from downshifting at 6k RPM.
Mileage irrelevant when you do what he did 😂

S58 and B58 don’t suffer from the issue as the design is fundamentally different. From what I understand it’s effectively all integrated as one piece.
@ShogunsDojo yes, it is a solid piece. I'm hoping there aren't any other issues down the line that we haven't seen yet due to the motors age.
Just saw photos of Sam Tate and his Schirmer M3 on the wall. Damn I miss that guy RIP 😢
Ahh yes mate, thought I'd put that in ❤️❤️❤️
@@JoeAchilles1 he was such a legend mate, so many good times and memories
She’s still so pretty ❤. I miss my M235i.
Comp looks like Danniella Westbrook with a deviated septum.
Please do not get rid of her, ever.
Know about...which "green" one?
Good job with it off the road, probably saved yourself that insurance money 😂 cost the same to build the engine to insure it now!!!

Bad engineering from bmw it is just not good enough
lol at bmw reliability '' S55 it's a proper m engine blah marketing'' why you taking a road car on track? BMW race cars have total different engines
Are you okay? Sending love 😘
@@JoeAchilles1 whats the fix cost then i will see if you're ok?
Anyone knows how much the crank hub fix costs? Got a manual m2c myself and have become quite paranoid about miss shifting myself haha.
