Really impressed how Katelyn has handled all the ups and downs since she High School with a inner determination to learn something of value from any and all events that comes her way in college and also in life in general, she's a real asset for her NC State and her teammates.
SOOOOOOO glad Katelyn went here, you can tell coach is really grounded, same with comment about Marlee just taking it slow and not forcing these kids to race even tough they might be ready always erring on the side of caution. With all those kids qualifying for finals and seeing all the fun they have in other videos these girls are going to blow the doors off at cross country next year. Nationals is going to be interesting I think the turnaround just like here is too tight to run both plus the 1500m usually has heats plus she is only top 25 in 1500m but top 15 in 5000 so my guess is they run 5000m again unless she is really doing something crazy in practice. She really needs to run there though so she continues to grow in understanding tactics which even this year she didn't need them until NCAA finals. Ultimately though she just has to keep getting stronger next year she really needs to start knocking at the door of sub 4 and sub 15. The only thing is she did look more tired than I've seen her in a while coming to the line but weird thing is she still had more in her she kept looking back to make sure no one was gaining.
Good interview she's obviously very good at what she's doing I really like she looks at the big picture and takes it slow on injury recovery and transitioning from lower levels that can only come from experience
Impressive,...you have to have a strong and united group, and the coach is the glue that keeps all that together,...Personally I'd like to see Katlyn improve her 1500mt times and strengthen her pace switch ups and long drives 300m out in 15's. Even running some 800's would be beneficial to find that extra kick down pace over a final lap.
Ummmm, no... I realize she's still young, but her 5k PB is still over a minute slower than a handful of African runners. Once she breaks 15 and then can get where she can go 14:30 or better, maybe then we can have that conversation.
It's funny I could tell she's was off a little same with her last cross-country race in HS definitely had enough to win I could tell by the way she rocks her body Before the Race but a fantastic job anyhow... I'm sure will be seeing a lot more of her in the near future....Goodluck
Nice interview! Coach isn't 100% correct tho.. Tuohy has identified that she's often been gassed-out in the final 100m after putting in too big an effort earlier (usually 400m-ish to go), but she does *not* seem to have that fixed up yet.
Tuohy on her other 5k races has that fixed, but on this race, she was leading almost half of it, got passed and climbed back in front and distanced herself pretty comfortably in just a lap, its normal to be gassed up in the end, she ran 15:18, with a 2:18 last 800.
Hopefully Katelyn can continue to develop. She's still a long way from being competitive with the African runners, several of whom have PBs over a minute faster than her. Hopefully, she'll at least break 15 this year.
That littel old Laurie let me tell ya son... she is the lady that we call the moms mom of cross-country... er? i mean? field & trcak i meant to say... gd-bless her.. whe is a very kind & very clever lady... and she will make the ladeis first on race day i me iab... i mean
2:34 I got a kick out of watching Katelyn walk by and wave in the middle of her coach's interview about her. She is so down to Earth.
